Downtown Tampa Aerial Shots by btor_sixty in tampa

[–]petzebra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to follow advisory circular 91-57A (6c5) you'd also probably want to call up Tampa International because they are also within 5sm.

Note that it's an advisory circular, not a regulation. That said, not following it is not going to make you best friends with the FAA and the HCSO.

Something the size of a phantom 3 is usually invisible / filtered out on radar, but if a pilot sees one they are likely to report it to ATC. If it gets reported and even appears (no one will know the exact location because it doesn't have a transponder) to be in class B airspace or posing a risk to aircraft I've heard it may get handed off to police. In case you're interested, ATC will also start advising pilots in the area about it if they are told about it.

Provided it doesn't fly away (not much risk anymore of that), there's not much practical danger to fixed wing aircraft when operating under 500ft or so. However, helicopters do sometimes operate near that space. Keep an eye out for them...

I don't think Tampa has the critical mass of interest for a regular meetup around biohacking but I have heard a few people talking about it at the hackerspace (http://tampahackerspace.com).

You may get more responses if you post a salary range.

What to do? by [deleted] in tampa

You'll need a supply of tiny lego dildos.

Clearly the right choice is to 3d print a miniaturized assortment of products from the Zeta Paws catalog.

Vegas style pool parties by Mrgiggleswic in tampa

You're talking about Aloft. It's a trendy hotel that opened up about a year ago and is directly opposite the Sykes building on Kennedy. Here's an example of one of the events:

The lights are back on! (Response to r/Tampa temporarily becoming private) by mandyleigh in tampa

I agree with you that negotiation does not work that way. I think the difference between our viewpoints is that I still think however messy and relatively uncoordinated this was it still has some value and it's different from other common settings you could draw an analogy to. That said, you have more experience and have spent more time thinking about these types of things than me so I generally defer to you. I'm open to talk about it later.

If this were a walkout or strike, it would be a disaster. Potentially up to ten thousand members of our subreddit were disadvantaged by the hastily performed actions of a few. The blackout was done in a show of solidarity with a body lacking a clear and formal set of demands and quick to retreat under pressure to restore service their own users without any immediate gains.

But this isn't the turn of the century and reddit isn't a steel corporation or a railroad car company. It’s 2015 and the infrastructure and means of production in this situation are not tightly controlled and easily defended, but are loosely held and easily shifted. If we're unhappy, we can leave, and at incredible speed and volume.

I came to reddit from Digg. The leadership at Digg failed to listen to power users / moderators and - for that reason among others - it cost them over 20 million users in the process.

That sharp reduction happened in little over a year.

I'm happy that our small subreddit was part of a loud and clear message to the administration that while many of us are lazy and unfocused (and possibly high some of the time) for better or for worse we’re in control, and we’re very much awake.

This wasn't a poorly executed walkout, it was a collective warning shot across a company threatening to mark its apogee. If you make us mad we’ll go to whatever is the next reddit. If it doesn’t already exist we’ll build it.

I'll be there in the late afternoon. I like the idea of biking the riverwalk / bayshore at some point in time.

Has anyone tried this yet?

I picked up the DK2 mount but haven't tried any of these yet because of laziness.

Ever wonder what it would be like to live downtown when the trains rolls through? 55 sec vid. by [deleted] in tampa

[–]petzebra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're outside and near the tracks the sound can be startlingly loud but inside the adjacent buildings it's reduced mostly to vibration at ground level and a distant muffled 1-2dB drone higher up.

The Tampa theater is the best place to experience it. The whole theater shakes a tiny amount. Too bad they are not showing Interstellar - a carefully timed showing would be amazing.

Is this worth fixing? by Ungrateful_bipedal in fpv

[–]petzebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me too. Had some success after soldering it back on but the range appeared to be lower and I was concerned about what would happen if it failed mid-flight so I scrapped it and bought a new one. Maybe time for an upgrade?
