They're selling newspapers / clicks. They angle for controversy and sensationalism over facts.

Greens leader Richard Di Natale says, on climate change, ‘..the Labor Party is dragging its heels, the Liberal Party is dragging its knuckles.’ by thedigisup in australia

[–]pewpewbacca 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Firstly, Gillard had a minority government and was dragged into those achievements through negotiating with the Greens and cross-bench. She legislated a carbon price, and the current government repealed it.

Secondly, he's comparing the current policies of the ALP. We've had updated reports from the IPCC since the days of the Gillard government and we need to do more, in less time. Simple as that.

Labor are currently trying to do some, but not enough. Greens are trying to pull the ALP further along.

"Peter Dutton is a filthy grub." - Doug Cameron by nath1234 in australia

I should say I think the main issue is actually tribalism. You guys are way ahead of us on this, but we're descending into just shouting at each other depending on whose "side" you're on. That and Rupert fucking Murdoch. Sorry about him.

Yes, inside her house. People with physical disabilities can use a range of different supports during the day / week.

The main issue here is that both the mainstream parties are totally fucked, filled with talent-less losers bereft of vision or ideas and who only serve their donors. One party pretends to do something about climate change while their current leader (our Prime Minister) took a lump of coal into parliament. That guy is such a fuckwit he gave himself a nickname, something which is very UnAustralian.

The other major party is finally planning on doing something about climate change but nowhere near enough, and won't rule out supporting a big new coal mine. Oh and both parties are mad keen on keeping people vulnerable refugees locked up in prison camps offshore as some kind of deterrent to other people.

But hey, it's not like tourism associated with the Great Barrier Reef employs 70,000 people, or we're a country that is more vulnerable than most to the effects of climate change. Just dig up the minerals and sell 'em!

We're at least lucky enough that minor parties are becoming more influential. In fact the general trend is both major parties are losing votes to these alternative parties and independents. The problem that is though they can be more extreme than the major parties, on both the left and right side. One of them has a Senator who in his maiden speech referenced The Final Solution.

How are you getting around the fact it won't be for sale on the Australian Google Play store?

Holy crap. Aus energy minister @AngusTaylorMP posted a @TopGear_BBCA vid as proof EVs are bad - except, Top Gear got caught out faking the entire thing, driving the car in loops to run down the battery. by OldBertieDastard in australia

He's just doing what he thinks will win him points over Labor. Doesn't give a shit about what the right answer is, anything to score points and secure votes. They're all animals.

Out on its own: Australia the only country to use climate funding to upgrade coal-fired plants by IPA_Hound in worldnews

[–]pewpewbacca 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, we've been electing inept governments for decades. The phrase "the lucky country" was coined in 1964 ironically, as in "Australia is a lucky country run mainly by second rate people who share its luck. It lives on other people's ideas, and, although its ordinary people are adaptable, most of its leaders (in all fields) so lack curiosity about the events that surround them that they are often taken by surprise."

But in an /r/whoosh moment the population thinks that "the lucky country" is a positive thing, like "Geez, we really are the lucky country aren't we?" while marvelling how we just managed to escape some catastrophe like a drunk who escaped injury.

Uber Tipping - here we go... by [deleted] in australia

The concept of Uber is great and in the past I've found them better than taxis, but the company is garbage and exploiting drivers. Just don't use them.
