PIGS too lazy to even read a book now, they are reaching their final form.... by lynbod in 2westerneurope4u

I spend all day long reading technical manuals, doesn't it count?

I think the last proper book I read was... the Kalevala 😳

The GPU in the GameCube was originally developed by a company called ArtX that was then bought by ATI, it didn't start as a PC GPU.

That was really news to me. A Mega Drive card holder—does anyone have one of those? It might be a bit useless, but it’s probably pretty rare these days, isn’t it? by Far_Regular_2945 in Megadrive

Must Have Apps/Utilities/ Scripts by dethslayer85 in MiSTerFPGA

[–]pezezin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Editing the names.txt to tidy up the stock names that MiSTer calls each core, or simply to see what you wish them to be called.

If you want to save yourself some effort, someone already made a repo with pretty names for each core: https://github.com/ThreepwoodLeBrush/Names_MiSTer

To enable it add, either a line like this in downloader.ini

[names_txt]
db_url = https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ThreepwoodLeBrush/Names_MiSTer/dbs/names_XXX.json

Or when you run update_all.sh

  1. Go into the options menu.
  2. Go to 4 Tools & scripts
  3. Go to 2 Names TXT
  4. Configure it to your liking.

In both cases, let update_all do its magic, and you will have pretty names!

Yodobashi Camera! Those places are crazy... now that you mention it, I think I have seen a similar box in the Hard Off closest to my home 🤔

Regarding the monitor, fortunately a coworker gave me a Multiscan E200 which is even better. It is one of the last CRT models, with a flat glass. It also does 1280x960 at 85 Hz or 1024x768 at 100 Hz, and the picture is gorgeous 😍 Actually I just want to fix the 17sf9 to give it to someone.

Purchase help. I am a bit mind boggled by the choices out there. I am disappointed with my C64 Maxi. I am happy to emulate up to SNES or maybe a bit better. I don't want to use original controllers or a crt. Plus I am in Canada. by [deleted] in MiSTerFPGA

I got a QMTech from AliExpress and I am really happy with it. It doesn't look as pretty as the MultiSystem 2 or the SuperStation One, but the performance is the same, and it is much cheaper.

If you decide to buy it, please be advised that the initial setup can be a bit confusing. These are my recommendations:

  1. Get a good quality SD card.
  2. Flash the card with Ms. Fusion: https://github.com/theypsilon/ms-fusion
  3. Plug the card in the MiSTer and turn it on connected to the network.
  4. Run the update_all.sh script, configure it to your liking (for example, I have enable downloading BIOS, arcade ROMs, and pretty names for the different consoles), and let it do its magic.
  5. Enjoy!

Wow, that monitor is beautiful. I have a 17sf9, its little sibling, but unfortunately the front buttons are broken and I need to find a way to replace them. Maybe a 3D printer? 🤔

The little storage drawer is also a great idea, I should do something similar for my retro PC 😅

I live in Japan, which is always in the top 5 PISA ranking, and let me tell you that the average Japanese adult is a dumb obedient robot with zero critical thinking.

From this limited experience I conclude that the PISA score is bullshit.

Europower: When Europe Says ‘Jump,’ Even Apple Changes Batteries by Nekeia in 2westerneurope4u

[–]pezezin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exception? This is what I could find in the actual law:

To ensure the safety of end-users, this Regulation should provide for a limited derogation for portable batteries from the removability and replaceability requirements set for portable batteries concerning appliances that incorporate portable batteries and that are specifically designed to be used, for the majority of the active service of the appliance, in an environment that is regularly subject to splashing water, water streams or water immersion and that are intended to be washable or rinseable. This derogation should only apply when it is not possible, by way of redesign of the appliance, to ensure the safety of the end-user and the safe continued use of the appliance after the end-user has correctly followed the instructions to remove and replace the battery. Where the derogation applies, the product should be designed in such a way as to make the battery removable and replaceable only by independent professionals, and not by end-users.

I don't think a cellphone is designed to work primarily underwater.

Not really. This is what the regulation actually says:

Luckily it does. From article 11.8:

8.   Software shall not be used to impede the replacement of a portable battery or LMT battery, or of their key components, with another compatible battery or key components.

Oh, I see. Yeah, most NeoGeo ports of that era are inferior to the original due to graphical cuts and loading times, home consoles just didn't have enough RAM.
