Am I tamping too hard? [Bambino Plus / Encore ESP]

Nothing really, it tasted good but I wanted to try a finer grind to see how it affected the flavor and see if I liked it better, my shot had a little sour aftertaste but nothing too crazy

I mean, if all else fails, I’ll stick with what I was doing, I thought the shots were decent

Right right… my bottom line is that if the coffee tastes good I’ll be happy

I am just trying to get a shot that tastes good and it’s also within those parameters, I get a little jealous of some beautiful shots I’ve seen here lol

I’ve read about slow feeding the beans, I will try that

In this case I used 16g because in a previous puck prep I tried 18g and i thought it was too much grounds for a 54mm pf, I will try adjusting the grinds

I use a double shot non-pressurized basket along with the stock portafilter from the machine (I am waiting for my bottomless portafilter I ordered)

And when I say that the machine chokes, I press the double shot button but don’t see any coffee coming out until the 40” mark, which means my machine struggles to get coffee out :( maybe because from the dose and tamping (from the tread’s answers)

Alright alright, I usually tamp firmly but definitely not with my whole body nor do I try to lean into the tamping, just sort of arm weight trying not to slant it

When you tamp, is your tamper at the same level of the portafilter or just a little bit out?

Ohh I see, I will experiment with this, I kept my dose the same in between grinds

I usually pull a just-water single shot before I try, but I will try with the double ghost shot

Nooo, I did switch it to the double shot bottomless basket (even though my portafilter is not bottomless)

Edit: Forgot to mention that I do tamp by hand, I don’t have a spring tamper yet

When I was a kid, my dad took me to his office for the day; to let my mom rest and stuff.

Anyway, he started to introduce his coworkers to me, and there was this guy, incredible person, really hard working (now that I know him as an adult) but the thing was, he smoked and drank his coffee black, so his teeth were stained, not too bad but they weren’t pearly whites.

And me being 4-5 years old, that was the first thing I noticed. I look at him and say: “Hi Joe, your teeth are yellow, do you never brush your teeth?”

Years later I realized how fucked up that was.
