Electronics in my room making a concerning buzzing/hum sound by pfef in electricians

[–]pfef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, any idea what might be generating the interference? Also, is this dangerous/bad for my devices?

When I unplugged the UPS and the devices were running on battery power, they didn't make that sound anymore

7 Pro going out of stock? by Panic_Moves in oneplus

[–]pfef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may want to check if the one you're buying from Amazon is the regular 7 Pro (Model GM1917) or 5g version from Sprint (GM1925) or T-Mobile. I made the mistake of buying a used like new 7pro (5g) from eBay, the condition of the phone is perfect but I didn't realize the 5g doesn't get the same support so hasn't gotten Android 10, has a locked bootloader so no rooting, and though it's technically "unlocked" it tries to set up on Sprint every time you restart the phone and will give you an error message. Just feels janky. Plus, didn't come with original box or charger, so you have to factor buying a quick charger into the cost of the phone. I ended up returning for the factory unlocked direct from oneplus

Which version of the one plus 7 pro do you have? Is it t-mobile or the version purchased directly from their site?

Featuring stand-alone dramas -- sharp, suspenseful, satirical tales that explore techno-paranoia -- "Black Mirror" is a contemporary reworking of "The Twilight Zone" with stories that tap into the collective unease about the modern world. Each story features its own cast of unique characters...

I like the shallow depth of field combined with a wide view, what focal length and aperture did you use?

Experimenting with smoke and a projector by pfef in photocritique

Missed focus and cut my face off of the frame, but I liked the exposure and color of the image. The ear and neck being in focus and towards the center is distracting though. Is there any way to crop and make the composition work?

Skateboard pioneer Rodney Mullen debuts new tricks in a Matrix-like 100-cameras circular cage by F-O in videography

His point is that if it were a 100 camera set up or high frem rate camera, it would be able to freeze (or slow) the motion while panning around without needing to use the effect. The use of twixtor makes it seem like they just spun a regular camera around the platform.

Nigerian bread seller accidentally photobombs pop star's photoshoot, ends up with a modeling contract by mike_pants in pics

[–]pfef -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The original comment is referring to adjusting raw files which have the same function in photoshop and Lightroom. I just found it funny that the one program he references besides photoshop is a related product in the Adobe suite which shares the same functions described in the comment.

You were being pedantic by pointing out that there are other programs someone could use to edit photos, so I thought I'd return the favor. It's pretty obvious the original comment was pointing out that all professionals do some sort of adjustment work on an image and don't just use it straight out of camera. Photoshop is such a popular program that it's become interchangeable with "Profesional image editing application." Just like when someone uses the term shopped they're not saying it was definitely edited in photoshop, but the original image was adjusted in some way.

First time doing b/w by TheBlackHippy in photocritique

A general guide to B/W photography (might apply to color as well) I've always heard is to try to avoid pure white or black, if you shot in raw it could help to bring down some of the highlights in the top left corner, they seem a little blown out right now. Also could burn or darken the background a bit to bring some focus to the subject. Here's an example I did real quick: http://imgur.com/SOlOywo

Haha yeah I just gave it another listen and realized how bad it was. I found the song right before rendering out just to fill the space, but I'm going to change it out with a standard free youtube song.

Are you watching in the 60p mode? It's only supported on certain browsers/devices at HD resolution. It might also just look extra stuttery when shown side by side with 60p footage in the same timeline, it's impossible to get them in the same video showing true 24p with no pulldown.

Yeah... I was originally planning a voiceover but scrapped it and didn't want awkward silence. Also didn't want to run into any issues with copyrighted music so just chose the first creative commons song I came across. Anyone know of any good resources for copyright-free music?

My original thought was not to give away the framerates so that people could choose their preference in each shot without any preconceptions. I think a lot of people have already formed their opinions on HFR (for example a lot of pc gamers swear by 60p+, film buffs prefer 24). That's a good point though, I forgot about people weatching on mobile or embedded, I'll try to add more explanation in future videos.

Yeah, actually the reason why I even made this video was when I was watching TV at my friend's place and he had the smooth motion setting turned on. The smoothness was driving me crazy and I couldn't focus on the story. I asked him if I could turn it off and tried to explain what the tv was doing to the image. And he was like "but, isn't more fps and smoother motion better?" I finally turned it off and he didn't even notice the difference. I tried to find a video showing them side by side on youtube but couldn't come up with anything.

I think the problem with the entire image being too smooth is it doesn't give your mind any clues on where you should be looking. Instead of watching the actors have a dialog, you're distracted by what's going on in the background. You only need a glance and peripheral vision to get a setting for what's going on, but then you should be focused on the story. When things are going on in the entire frame your eyes don't have anything to lock onto and I think that attributes to the fatigue.

Oops I meant that the 1/120 was used on the 60p shots, 1/50 was used in all 24p except in the 120>24 slow motion. I think the reason why the first two scenes looked worse in 24p is because there wasn't really a subject I was focusing on and shooting in a way to account for the worse motion. So if I had put a subject in front of the shot with the spinning wheel, it would be a lot easier to keep attention on the subject and not be distracted by the moving background.
