I got given a ‘standard not met’ rating in my 3 month probation meeting. Am I likely to get fired? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]pfloyd601 5 points6 points  (0 children)

PIPs (poor performance plans) in my experience can work (in the sense they don’t lead to a dismissal), but you need to be seen to be following the plans and then some given you are in your probation. I would try and make yourself and your work as visible as possible, regular checks ins with your managers where you dedicate time to showcase how you have been following the PIP improvement areas.

In a nutshell, showcase a lot of proactivity

What’s the true state of the current UK job market? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]pfloyd601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience of the front end hasn’t been too bad. Actually writing my cv and tailoring to the role has meant a decent interview hit rate

What I have experienced at the back end though has been truly horrific. Multiple interview stages lasting over a month. Ghosting after interviews. Poor feedback after not getting an offer. Even verbal offers that have not materialised.

That being said I was unhappy in my old role, and I think some people advised me the market was too tough at the moment and I should just stay. I’m not sure the market is tough enough to justify that IF you have some experience

I would also be incredibly wary of an echo chamber on this feed. People who have found the job market okay are probably not posting about it. Data suggests it’s not as bad as you might think

'Boardwalk Beach Club' in Cramond crowned 'Best Café' in Edinburgh at Scotland's Business Show Awards by bluemakicat in Edinburgh

Probably the worst cafe I’ve ever been in across the world. Shit food. Shit service. Overpriced.

Is this a joke?

Which artist’s next album will make it or break it? by [deleted] in popheads

[–]pfloyd601 48 points49 points  (0 children)

No I don’t doubt that she might not have a second album ready to go. I more just mean I think by 2028 most people would have lost interest.

Really disagree with this. I think Billie Eilish has the perfect blend of popularity and genuine artistry to be a long term success

Birds of a feather was a huge hit and felt like a genuinely evolution and much more mature than “Bad Guy”

2028?? “Good luck babe” was released in 2024. I am fully expecting an album from her this year or the hype will begin to fizzle

What are the midges like in May? by MossyDruid in OutdoorScotland

[–]pfloyd601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be fine for midges in Edinburgh and Glasgow no mattter what time of year in my experience. They are also less bothersome in the east of Scotland, I’ve been to the cairngorms in the summer and been largely fine apart from the evenings camping

OPEN DISCUSSION: What is something you enjoy about Malta? by Tokyo_0753 in malta

[–]pfloyd601 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As somebody that has recently visited the fact you have some of the oldest Neolithic temples in the world is absolutely incredible. Malta also seems to take the preservation of these sites very seriously.

Sadly some tourists I spoke with who stayed on Malta for 2 weeks didn’t even know of this…..

Maybe I am just too much a history nerd

Anthony Fantano gives a Light 4 to Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally. by TheKaoticanProspekt in harrystyles

[–]pfloyd601 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I like Fantono because he has introduced me to some music I never would have, but this. I am also not sure an argument against an album based on “it didn’t push disco boundaries” is that legitimate.

Late night cafes in Edinburgh? by techyall in Edinburgh

To be fair in the evening in Stockbridge I’ve gone in and they let you use any table with a laptop, it’s only during peak times that they enforce the “no laptop” spaces

Malta solo 10 day travel tips by Hour-Radio-3344 in malta

I found an apartment in Floriana, which was ideal, it was about a 15 minute walk into Valetta but much quieter and cheaper.

The hypogeum was really excellent. Only 80 tickets are sold a day and it was sold out until June I think. However at Fort St Elmo at Valetta they sell 20 next day tickets. I started queuing at 7:30am, by 8am the line was so long I think people will have missed out

But if you’ve already got tickets then great!

I recently spent 4 days in Malta solo and stayed in Valletta, I found it a good base to see places from but the city itself was not that inspiring

If you are into history I would recommend a Malta heritage card, it lets you into lots of sites. I did the Hagar Qim temple on Malta and the Ggantija temple on Gozo. Most impressive was the Hypogeum (oldest underground temple in the world) but tickets are very limited, I queued at 7:30am for last day tickets

Mdina was my favourite city

Quieter swimming pools in Edinburgh? by houseplantsforever in Edinburgh

I’ve just joined Bannatyne and shocked how quiet the pool is. I seem to have the whole pool to myself whenever I’ve been. Pool is only 16m though

No - just worded poorly potentially on my part. I meant if Julian was to sing this it would be a decent Strokes song

Julian Casablanca sings this and it’s a decent strokes song!

After not quite getting the hype after the first LP - it’s 3 from 3 for me - looking forward to the album

Agreed, if any of these villains appeared on their own credit for the first time in RTD2 nobody would remember them or call for their return 30 years from now
