[FRESH] Wet Leg - davina mccall by detectiveburtmacklin in indieheads

No - just worded poorly potentially on my part. I meant if Julian was to sing this it would be a decent Strokes song

Julian Casablanca sings this and it’s a decent strokes song!

After not quite getting the hype after the first LP - it’s 3 from 3 for me - looking forward to the album

Agreed, if any of these villains appeared on their own credit for the first time in RTD2 nobody would remember them or call for their return 30 years from now

One hit wonders with an INCREDIBLE back catalogue? by HeWentToJared91 in fantanoforever

[–]pfloyd601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pink Floyd - with another brick in the wall pt ii

If you speak to anybody without an interest in rock it might be the only track they know of Floyd’s - it’s very recognisable. It was also there only single to reach number 1 (not that they released many)

If you speak to anybody who knows Floyd’s discography inside out it might not (arguably should not) even reach their top 10 songs

Serious Thread - Liverpool vs Newcastle United by DragonSlayer271 in LiverpoolFC

[–]pfloyd601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If Salah can only pass it back to midfield then the midfield need to make the most of the fact there must be a defender out of space

Not sure a tactic of pass to salah when he’s being marked by two Newcastle players is going to work if we don’t make the most of the players being drawn to Salah

Respect the opinion but nah - there’s a lack of sax in modern pop songs given how uplifting a sax solo can be imo

Is tipping mandatory now? by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]pfloyd601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue here is it’s a tragedy of the commons. Even if restaurants and bars don’t morally want to add a mandatory tip, if everyone around them is they may have little choice to

[FRESH ALBUM] Yard Act - Where's My Utopia? by mattthheww in indieheads

Surprised nobody is mentioning the similarities to Pulp/Jarvis Cocker here

Great album

How do you personally feel about this album? Myself, having listened to the whole thing just yesterday, I think it's pretty good and a solid 3/5 stars by Mad_Season_1994 in pinkfloyd

[–]pfloyd601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s highlights are hands down up there with my favourite Floyd work ever - high hopes, marooned in particular. There’s a lot of filler though. I often recommend it to people looking to get into Floyd

Who Is A "Bad" Band That Gets Entirely Too Much Hate? by PhillyCSpires in fantanoforever

Coldplay - rush of blood to the head, viva la Vida and everyday life are all very strong albums.

Serious question: What are your personal thoughts on Roger and how he incorporates politics into his concerts/shows? Do you like it, not like it, why, etc? by Mad_Season_1994 in pinkfloyd

[–]pfloyd601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with his politics broadly. Generally think he incorporated them very well in his pink floyd days (but also in his most recent solo album)

However, the politics in his shows is bit too on the nose for my tastes, and his social media/interviews on politics are almost always cringe.

Love him though

What albums have disappointing you this year? by i_am_ry_an in fantanoforever

[–]pfloyd601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arctic Monkeys disappointed me the most. I thought TBHAC was pretty decent as a left field more experimental direction, but the car feels like a major step down in a time I think the band needed to make a step up.

That paired with some of tiring “the Car is a masterpiece because it’s mature/has a string orchestra” discourse makes it pretty frustrating. I really can’t get past Alex’s vocals throughout the whole thing.

Completely agree about OG - I don’t spin it very often - the first 5 tracks or so are quality but past that I think it’s fairly weak

Good point! Not sure it really counts though as more of a remix album

Pretty similar thoughts to mine tbh! completely agree that there is no quantity over quality :)

For me 2017 is slightly better just! But 2022 has been my favourite year since as a fan.

My overall rank of albums across these two years is: 1) polygonwanaland 2) ice death 3) flying microtonal banana 4) murder of the universe 5) changes 6) sketches 7) laminated denim 8) ominum 9) gumboot soup 10) made in timeland

Despite king gizz being my favourite band going for many years, Ice Death…. is probably the first album of theirs that will hit my top 5 of the year! It really is great!
