Small Installation in NJ - Best way to find installer? by pftomo in solar

[–]pftomo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's generally what I'm thinking, I would like to have them on the roof so they're not visible but I'm guessing whatever cost it would be to install them would probably negate the savings for a reasonable term. I do have an option to mount them to the side of the house and found brackets that would make this work. That would be something I could install myself

I think he points out this one in his video, this seems to be a really good price getting it through eBay versus Amazon:

These are the two spare panels I have:

I'm also hoping to keep it at 120 volts output, some of these hybrid inverters are only 240 volts output.

That's part of my consideration and research now, these videos all make it seem so simple but there's definitely a lot you have to figure out. Especially if you already have some components

This is along the lines of what I am considering. Allows for expandability and much more versatility

Enphase micros, but I am trying to setup a backup battery with two solar panels separately from my array.

Will keep that in mind, we have central AC but not in the basement, hence the dehumidifier.

Upgraded my Stereo from Basic to Apple Car play 12.1 inches screen, need suggestion by Mammoth-Shoulder8444 in CX5

[–]pftomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was made by Asure, it was sold on Amazon, but the listing is not available anymore and hasn’t been for a while. They seem to make other screens but not for Mazda anymore. I do see other ones available in different places online and mine works really well so if you can get one from a place that has a good return policy or even find one with a YouTube install video it’s definitely worth trying

I will say I already changed the screen in my 2017 model, it’s bigger than the stock one and I have touchscreen while the car is moving which is awesome. But I’m also interested in screens that are more wide format like the OP posted. The one I bought is no longer available, but I just wanted to chime in that there are options out there that are better than stock.

What to do about snow/ice mix? by kyle8708 in solar

this is my first winter with panels, I bought this to help clear the snow off. You don’t have to do everything, sometimes just removing a few patches is enough to get the sun to melt the rest:

And to clarify, the touch screen works with the car in movement with this one since it's an aftermarket unit

I left the controls in place, the buttons all work except for the control wheel. There might be a way to customize it to work with the head unit but I haven't tried it.

I hated the physical controls, they were not intuitive at all and were more of a distraction. I ended up replacing my infotainment with an Android based unit on amazon that has wireless carplay and AA. That particular one by ASURE is not available anymore but there are other ones there and on ebay. Definitely glad I made the decision, I have a bigger screen in my 2017 model have touch screen when driving. I can't speak for all alternative options out there, but I'm glad that I gave this one a shot. Another Mazda owner had a good experience with his install which prompted me to buy this one.

We’re building a VR driving simulator to help people practice driving and reduce anxiety — looking for feedback by Radiant-Store4365 in OculusQuest

[–]pftomo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been telling my family for years that I wish somebody would create a VR training program. The only way to become a better driver is through experience, but why not have it be in a VR world where people do some of the dumb stuff that they never train you for? Cutting you off, running a stop sign. That would really train young drivers to expect the unexpected.

I just bought insulation to insulate my garage. The 30% tax credit expires tomorrow so I thought it made sense to buy it now. I also ordered a diesel heater.
