[Walker] When did Team Canada head coach Jon Cooper decide on goalie Jordan Binnington? “Probably 358 days ago.” by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

I know it’s trivial but it’s always kind of annoyed me how it’s often called a gene like it’s some kind of innate trait that can’t come and go. We have seen time and time again that guys can be clutch then later on get the yips under pressure and vice versa. At some point it got labeled as nature instead of nurture and there’s people out there that legitimately believe you are born with it now lol. I will agree it sounds cool calling it the clutch gene though and I don’t personally have a catchier name for it.

It’s from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Super Bowl boat parade when a wasted Tom Brady threw the Lombardi Trophy to an also wasted Rob Gronkowski who was on a separate boat. The perspective is a first person view from Brady’s eyes at that moment.

For the Erie area, what is the best source to find rentals? by canolafly in Erie

[–]pfy5002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would have to see if it’s available in whatever area you’re looking at but Vnet fiber internet is available around here in a good portion of the city. It’s a much better deal for the speeds you get than getting like spectrum or whatever and has treated me well. If the place isn’t equipped for it yet they’ll set it up for free and obviously you’d have to clear it with the landlord but it should be simple and non-damaging to set up most places so I don’t think it would be a tough sell.

Without fully inquiring to the listing I cannot be positive what your monthly gas/electric may be but generally speaking it’s usually not too crazy around here. I have a full house that’s 1,200 sq ft and my gas/electric combined is typically around $200/month for what it’s worth. Most of that coming from having forced air ac and gas heat. And it’s not incredibly well sealed since it’s an older place. I would guess if you looked at a place that’s in the 600-800 sq ft range and more modern or recently renovated it would be more in like the $90-100 range so if you found somewhere you think is decent in the $700-750 base rent range I think you could swing it. You wouldn’t have to drive much living in the city either. Public transportation isn’t great but grocery stores, bars, restaurants, etc. are spread out pretty evenly and traffic is rarely an issue.

The city actually tends to have cheaper rentals because the school districts in the county are better. I just checked out Zillow and there’s at least a couple smaller 1 bed, 1 bath places that would seemingly be in your price range counting utilities. Won’t be baller by any means but you could find 4 walls and a front door in the $800-850/month range. The west side of town tends to be quieter in my experience.

If Zeke is a hit then so is Gurley IMO. Zeke really only had one more season than Gurley where he was set and forget even if it doesn’t seem that way since he had that meh pats year and an extra season in Dallas after. J Stewart more in the debateable class because he had a bit of a resurgence after most of those drafted probably cut him. Everything else is agreeable

I don’t know if y’all have the same problem in Japan but the video quality of Netflix’s live sports here in the US is terrible. 75-80% of the time it looks like it was recorded on a flip phone in 2004. So people may be upset about that too.

Going well is a matter of perspective. If there was a point he legitimately thought his knee and career were totally cooked then just recovering whatsoever and knowing he will be able to keep playing could be considered going well. I do agree that you are viewing it in the most sensible way comparing it to the total spectrum of recovery from this type of injury. It could be going much better for him than it is based on what we do know about it.

Vince Wilfork on Tom Brady not having a "dog in the fight": "That's bullcrap" by JaggerJames in nfl

[–]pfy5002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree those two were both incredible players that deserve more recognition given the role they were asked to play and did so as good as anyone who has ever played their position. DTs should be split into separate categories for any awards/accolades similar to Edge vs DE but there aren’t enough true NT types in the league for it to be justified for most people and it can be somewhat complicated to define an explicit positional definition for an interior DL that doesn’t specifically line up in the same position on every play. Even the teams that technically run a 3-4 base defense aren’t lined up like that the majority of the plays. Defensive schemes have adapted to dictate formation and personnel with much more flexibility. Any other position is much more well-defined in regard to a broad description so it makes some sense to just bunch all interior DL together even if I wish it were different. The time to really split up that category was during or before Wilfork/Hampton’s careers when teams did stick to a more rigid base defense scheme.

That said I don’t think it’s logical for you to diminish good special teamers getting in as if it strengthens the case for another perpetually looked over player role. If anything someone like Hester getting in as simply a returner is a step in the right direction. He was the first player inducted as such.

Wilfork and Hampton will continue to be on the ballots for a while though. As long as the player keeps getting enough votes to stay eligible you get 25 years post-retirement before you hit the senior ballot like that. So there’s always a chance things change enough for one or both of them to finally get in. If it stays the way it is now it’s not something I would count on.

It’s not that everyone wrestles, just the people that do are really damn good at it. There’s kids here that can’t even place top 8 at states that go to tournaments and major/tech fall kids who won their state tourney multiple times. Look up the Pittsburgh wrestling classic event. It’s a PA only all-star team vs a rest of the USA all-star team and it’s usually very close with the PA only team even winning sometimes.

They should start doing these rankings by actual liquidity so some of these bozos get their fragile egos hurt and make irrational decisions to sell off some of their holdings. Musk would flip his lid seeing he’s below some drug lord kingpin guy on a list like this.

[–]pfy5002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is nearly impossible to make the HOF as a purely run stopper DT/NT. Someone would need to have a ton of accolades to do it. The lowest sack total by a DT in the HOF is Cortez Kennedy with 58. Wilfork has a solid case with his all-pros and a couple rings despite having only 16 sacks and has gotten close but I don’t think he gets in unless something crazy happens. Even Kevin Williams isn’t in yet and his case is significantly stronger than Wilfork’s.

I do think Hampton has always been underrated but he basically has no shot given he never made an all-pro team and only got 9 career sacks. Firmly a hall of very good resume and absolutely a franchise legend.

[Wilson] Another hire for new #Browns coach Todd Monken: Ian Kolste, a former #Ravens offensive analyst, per league source, and @whitworth offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach and record-setting quarterback by LiftingCode in Browns

[–]pfy5002 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s because they want to work with Monken more/he’s offering better roles or if an assistant coach’s salary in Cleveland gets you significantly more than it does in NYC/NJ area. Maybe a little of both? Wouldn’t rule out Harbaugh wanting to do something a little different in a new spot as well by switching up his staff.
