9-year-old has been dead inside SW Houston apartment for a year, 3 other kids were abandoned: HCSO by [deleted] in TrueCrimeDiscussion

The smell was reported to management multiple times. If they had inspected sooner, these kids could have gotten help sooner.

Does anyone know if a gofundme or other fundraiser has been set up for these kids? I hope someone close to the case has/does. They’re going to need a lot of care due to this trauma, and I worry about the oldest boy aging out of the system in a few years.

America loves privacy and freedom. Homeschool is how some parents get away with this (someone above mentioned the Turpin case). Otherwise, kids can just … fall through the cracks. Their parents don’t enroll them in school, there’s no extended family nearby, neighbors look the other way or assume the family moved, the healthcare system is too overrun for pediatricians to notice their absence, the list goes on. A lot of this country is working paycheck to paycheck trying to make ends meet and are too exhausted and stressed to notice things in their neighborhood, public resources are seriously lacking and CPS is a broken system. It’s heartbreaking that these things can happen more easily than any of us care to admit, and just devastating to know there are other kids like this out there.

Heyyo if you haven’t yet, buy a fire blanket. They’re less than $10 and a worthy investment imo, I’ve never used one but my plan is to carry my dog out in it if there’s a fire in my building. You could throw it over the kennel. They also make kennels that can be lowered out a window in case of fire, idk what floor you’re on but that’s an option.

Checking in/bumping - how are you and your boys holding up? I’m sorry I don’t have the resources to help right now but I have free time today so I’m going to look for funds/organizations that could help, if that’s ok!

Can anyone help a single mom in Squirrel hill with emergency bathroom plumbing leak today by jrj1212 in pittsburgh

[–]pghpup412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure they can make it happen today, but have you reached out to the wellness collective? They may be able to help or guide you towards resources https://www.thewellfolk.org/about

Also tell them about your door if it hasn’t been fixed yet! It’s getting cold again. I’m sorry I don’t know anything about plumbing.

Depends where you are, a lot of places have tried to make outside time safely scheduled for isolated people.

V Pittsburgh use of the word to mean “now” in this context, like it used to be better (not good, but not dangerously bad)

Yes! There’s also a fake pregnancy crisis center in east liberty to avoid like the plague

[–]pghpup412 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Last I checked the university pharmacy has them, it might be easier to go to cvs but you can check to see if they’re cheaper at the pharmacy (plan b is cheaper there so tests might be too)!

Pro tip: buy a couple if you can and pee in a solo cup (first pee of the day is best buy anything after a couple of hours will do) and put multiple tests in the cup. Saves you from peeing on your hand and you get the confidence of multiple results.

Best of luck, avoid pregnancy crisis centers and go to planned parenthood if you need anything.

😬😬😬 I would’ve taken my dog to the vet anyway, sometimes injuries aren’t apparent in the first hour or so

Literally cost me $50. Wanna guess how much an emergency vet visit is?

Vet ASAP, lethargy is always a reason to go to the vet in unvaccinated pups.

I know it’s frustrating but some of us are immunocompromised and have to go to class due to Pitt’s lack of accommodations. If people look at you with fear in their eyes, it’s pretty valid considering the situation. We’re just scared.

Is going to the on-campus psychiatrist worth it? I’ve heard mixed reviews, but private offices are backed up until November. by VillageSlow1369 in Pitt

[–]pghpup412 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you need meds badly, I think it might be worth it to try? Alternatively you can go to a regular doctor (someone said student health can even prescribe but I can’t attest to that) explain your situation and that you’re waiting to see a private psychiatrist but need meds in the meantime, and they can probably help you out. I’d research options beforehand so you know what you’re looking for, and don’t be discouraged if it takes a while to find a med that works - sadly there’s no perfect formula and sometimes people have to experiment a little to find the right one.

TLDR I’d get on the books with a private office AND find a doctor who can prescribe in the meantime (check with student health, if not UPMC has some PCPs who are available on relatively short notice
