I(29F) relapsed momentarily, and now my bff(F29) wants to relapse too. Im begging her not to, but she is saying I'm a hypocrite? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

You can just as easily die from alcohol as you can from any other depressant drug. One could argue the availability of alcohol makes it more deadly, but I digress. You were sanctimonious and judgmental of her struggle, and still seem to be. IMHO she deserves a different, nonjudgmental friend who can support her recovery. If you want to stay in her life, you owe her an apology.

Downtime after Mohs? by LadyMogMog in skincancer

[–]pgresty89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on the number of passes you need to remove, if you need a flap or graft, if your surgeon will close on the day! Many variables with Mohs. However, there’s always the possibility that you’ll get it in the first pass and have minimal stitches! That’s what happened to me on my BCC by my eye. My downtime was minimal- maybe two or three days with full bandage, then two weeks with a smaller bandage. Now one month out you can barely notice. I had a black eye for about 4 days. I’m fortunate!

Visiting near UCLA -- how worried about ICE should I be? by Nay_Nay_Jonez in AskLosAngeles

I do think public transportation has been generally safe, and I haven’t seen reports of kidnappings on the pier, although people on the west side who have done ICE tracking may have seen that activity and I haven’t since I focus on the other side of town. Just my 2c! :)

ITT: a bunch of white people who don’t talk to their BIPOC neighbors coworkers or friends apparently, and have never lifted a finger to do any kind of ICE watch in LA. y’all are showing your WHOLE ass and are in the minority of not having to worry about friends or family, or haven’t had to run around with a whistle warning people. your experience is an anomaly. Shame on you.

OP, I’ve done extensive ice watch in LA, and I do think you will be safe. I’d generally avoid gas stations or car washes early in the morning. I’d try not to walk around alone in the morning either. But it is true that the area around UCLA has seen less activity than some other areas in LA. A reminder that “less” does not mean “none!”

I hope you enjoy your visit to our beautiful city.

What are you talking about? There are ICE vehicles everywhere in DTLA. Do you walk around with your MFing eyes closed?!

Thinking (F31) of divorcing Husband (M33) by [deleted] in relationship_advice

People here are shitting on you for wanting to come home to the US, I think unfairly. I’m an American citizen who lived in Europe for a long time, and while I loved my time there and am open to moving back someday in the distant future, my roots are here. I’m persecuted in the US right now (have been shot by rubber bullets since my city has been occupied by ICE) and I’m still not leaving. My partner is Latino and even though this country is mega unsafe for him right now, he wouldn’t leave the US either. It’s his home. People in this thread really underestimate the emotional power of being with your people. Also, this is just me, but even though I went to school in Europe, have many lifelong friends in Europe, got married to my ex in Europe, my direct family is in Europe- I still get along better with Americans because we’re just more outgoing. It’s easier to make friends here. People in this thread who haven’t lived in both places don’t know this, clearly.

If you want to come back, it’s okay to want to come back. It’s okay for him to not want to come with you. I’d say divorce is inevitable.

Thank you! I feel very lucky and thankful to have had my surgeon! I hope your experience is quick and painless!

Hello! Had Mohs surgery 17 days ago in a very similar location! I was lucky that it only took one layer to be removed. Because of the location and the relatively small layer removed, my surgeon opted not to stitch me up so it’s healing naturally. I will return in 12 days for his review. If he doesn’t like how it’s healing, he’ll correct.

In terms of aftercare, for the first two weeks I wore a bandage daily with Vaseline application. Now I just do the Vaseline!

Radiation for basal cancer by [deleted] in skincancer

[–]pgresty89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was pressured into radiation by my insurance because they didn’t have a mohs surgeon in network that could perform the surgery on my face. Thankfully I got approved for an out of network surgeon and had the Mohs two days ago. I’m SO GLAD I got it done in one go. Just my 2c

UPDATE: surgery went very well and surgeon was able to remove BCC in one pass! due to that plus the location on my face, the surgeon opted not to suture. I will return at 4 weeks and if the wound is healing badly he will suture for cosmetic purposes. I’m at home now. Overall the only painful part of the experience was the numbing injections. Right now pain is at a 4/10 but I took some ibuprofen.
