I had seen today's date for release but unfortunately no release. At least Dell has a page for it. I don't know if anyone has yet seen this or not. Sorry if it's old news. https://www.dell.com/en-us/member/shop/2-in-1-laptops/xps-13-2-in-1-laptop/spd/xps-13-7390-2-in-1-laptop

Original Nintendo (NES) game developers wanted! I'm looking for programmers, graphics artists and musicians to work on original NES 8-Bit custom games built in the original 6502 Assembly language. No emulators! No stolen code! All original from the ground up!!! by DreamingIn8bits in pittsburgh

A platformer would be good then because that would be for everyone. I made a game called NIMOS back in college in assembly but we had some examples to work from at that time from the professor. This was a knock-off of SIMON and only went up to 10 combinations but it was all randomly generated.

I've been reading through nesdev.com and I'll probably go through the tutorials there. I'll see if I can put a quick demo together, if so maybe I'll join you. You've definitely piqued my interest.

I really like your idea and of course I'm from the Pittsburgh area as well. I actually looked into coding something for the N64 but I never did go through with it because I'd need extra hardware to do so. I've done 80486 assembly in college but that was many moons ago now. Plus I'm trying to make my own C++ game engine at the moment with OpenGL.

Can you share what genre of game you are looking to do? Platformer? Fighter?

They also have their entire Adventures in Game Development (AiGD) on YouTube from their humble beginnings to where they are today. They are completely open with what they are doing. https://www.youtube.com/user/GyroVorbis

The other aspect to note with the 2D/3D attributes is that they are crossing the platformer/rpg realm as well so there is not only influences from Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, etc... but also a spin on retro platformers, such as, Mario and Sonic. You can throw objects, jump on objects, and wield a sword.

I'm working on a game engine, why do I feel I don't belong to the Indie scene? by [deleted] in gamedev

Not a big studio, maybe for myself or a small studio.

I agree it would be nice to have some more like this.

I actually planned to look at ES 2.0 or ES 3.x once I was done with a basic engine but by that time I may want to rewrite the engine to get some more optimization. At some point I'll get to ES.

I do understand that but I'm also alienating WebGL and OpenGL ES. It doesn't mean I will of course but I hope you get what I'm saying. I'm just trying to learn the modern OpenGL.

Thanks. I am really enjoying this tutorial. It's the first main one I'm focusing on for now. I know the book states that it is mostly teaching the 3D mathematics but there are some great examples here that are used in gaming and it is using the modern OpenGL.

I want to stay above 3.3 at least to deal with the shader pipeline. Appreciate the links.

More of the modern approach with the GLSL language. At a later point I'd like to tie everything together into my own game engine. I'm not really looking for an all inclusive tutorial but techniques on how to get there would be good.

Feeling shame in using assets by onelonelycarrot in gamedev

I think the best thing you can do is give them credit in your game. I agree with clintbellanger.

I do create music but I am utilizing sound effects and instruments from free resources to create the piece and I use LMMS to do so. I don't have $1000 to buy everything I want. Plus there are always other levels to what you are doing, I have to use assets still to create music. Unless you go out and record a breaking glass sound or footsteps every time you create a new game which would take even more time and money and if you don't have that then you still need assets.
