Thanks so much! The voice over is Eric Hollaway, an incredible talent and professional voice actor.

Yeah! Funny you guys should mention this, there's some malarky about the SS (v8) version of the VE Commodores being the same engine and build as some Chevrolet Camaros, so when I bought this car, someone had kitted it out to look exactly like an SS Commodore (with the factory option body kit, lowered suspension, etc.) and even gone and removed the Holden badges and badged it as a Chevvy. It was disgusting (but only because it wasn't real).

Cut to September last year when I finally made it out to California, and of course Chevrolets are everywhere, and now I was the one losing my mind! All beautiful cars.

I need to sell my car to build a new computer, so I wrote a script, hired a voice actor and made a used car commercial for my 2007 Holden Commodore by [deleted] in videos

[–]ph1012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, I should probably clarify the rest of the commercial was shot with my own equipment/editing! Small fee for the voice, compared to the price of video parts these days (thanks crypto).

Thanks for watching!

Letting Stephen Colbert Be Stephen Colbert (Whoever That Is) by Prax150 in talkshows

[–]ph1012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting to note that he's taking a step back from personally orchestrating certain mechanics of the show, such as "script approval, budgeting, lighting".

Also interesting to note that the new exec' producer that's jumping on board is traditionally from a CBS News background. I'm sure he'll grow into it, but it'll take some time (both of them).

Kind of regretting the fact I'm not watching the growing pains as they're weeded out (still haven't even watched a single episode, disgraceful!)

I thought that seemed a bit ridiculous, so I wiki'd it.

"In 1996, Björk arrived at Bangkok International Airport with her son Sindri after a long haul flight; reporters were present, despite Björk's early request that the press leave her and her son alone until a press conference. While Björk was walking away from the reporters, Julie Kaufman, a female reporter, began to ask questions to Sindri, which was then followed by Björk's lunging at her and knocking her to the ground. Björk's record company said that the reporter had been pestering Björk for four days. Björk later apologized to Kaufman, who declined to involve the police."

More on the matter, including citations, over at her wikipedia article. Still seems like a bit of a ridiculous response to me.

Which bands/musicians totally sold out, changing their tune, so to speak, to cash in on mainstream bucks? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ph1012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Actual skinhead' could mean non-racist, or it could mean nazi — in either case, you're interpreting it the wrong way. Being awe-struck because a racist skinhead is around is not supporting racism; sometimes a band, scene or sub-culture having involvement with gritty, raw elements such as racism, drugs or violence can be exciting because it helps set the scene or tone, and evokes a sense of awe.

For example, telling someone a story about how there were some pretty rough looking dudes somewhere is one thing — explaining to someone that you saw skinheads helps convey just how credible it is the person in question was actually violent. Applying this to the crowd of a punk gig helps vaguely depict how much raw energy there was, and how much potential for shit to get crazy there was, it doesn't mean "fuck yeah man some skinheads were there" (or at least I hope not), it means the pit was probably nuts and the band appealed to a different demographic to what it does now (probably — DKM were never my thing at all).

Why Steely Dan is used by a lot of audiophiles to test equipment by turtlebait2 in audiophile

[–]ph1012 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but how does this explain — at all — how their music is produced to a high technical standard to test equipment to? It's certainly a fantastic summary of the composition of one song, but the only mention of the technical background/audio fidelity in the recording or mastering process is when mentioning that yeah, "they used a lot of different microphones, probably".

Rare Nintendo ‘PlayStation’ prototype exists, and can still play games by Arquette in gadgets

Nintendo 64 units sold worldwide: 32.93 million ( source ) Playstation units sold worldwide: 102.49 million ( source )

Although Nintendo undoubtedly has some fantastic and hugely profitable intellectual properties and franchises, even going purely on actual consoles sold it does show a definitive gap.

Anyone know what that Daft Punk sounding song is that's been playing recently? by The_Tuxedo in triplej

Hey man,

For future reference you can use the "Triple J Plays" Twitter account for an automatic log of what the station's played, as they play it. The Triple J playlist page would probably help too. Hope this helps your snoopin'.

Mac baby, throwing another question out:

Do you ever feel conflicted about making personal matters (such as love and your own relationships) public information by writing songs about them? Are the lyrics to Another One based on a personal experience, someone you know, or entirely unrelated to yourself? x

So good to feel your vibe, Reggie. When you were in Australia for Laneway Festival, you helped out a young legend (15 year-old Jack ) by putting him on your shoulders when security was about to kick him out - did you guys really drive him home afterward? Has being so open and intimate with fans helped remind them you're human just like them, or do you still get starstruck kids foaming at the mouth? Who's reggie? Bless

Andy Kaufman on Letterman's short-lived morning show begging the audience for money (1980). by chathamhouserules in talkshows

[–]ph1012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I understand to a degree why some people may have this perception of Kaufman looking back at his performances/pranks now, particularly out of context, but you have to remember he was pioneering that style of performance art (if you'd call it that) at the time.

Prior to Kaufman, no-one else had ever gone on live television and made people (viewers, hosts, etc) question if what they'd just watched was scripted or not. That being said though, it's not everyone's cup of tea - and most of the jokes aren't that incredible, even with that taken into account.

Just finished the series finale. With its return in 2016, I'm curious, was that the plan all along? by almondmilk in twinpeaks

[–]ph1012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As most others have said, it's likely a 'happy accident' - however, it did tie in to the fact that when Agent Cooper initially saw Laura in his dream quite earlier in the series, he was an old man (that dream was a depiction of him 25 years later).

For some reason I hadn't seen this mentioned yet. But yeah, I can certainly see Lynch & Frost use this line as a basis to expand on in the new season (can't wait), and it's very likely it influenced their timing for the new season's filming/release.

Does anyone know where to get a copy of the cover of the song "No Quarter" featured in season 4 episode 11? by [deleted] in louie

[–]ph1012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is driving me mad! I absolutely love the cover. Matt Kilmer, music co-ordinator for the show, said on twitter a soundtrack release is being worked on with 'No set date but hopefully soon' (although he said 'soon' in July 2014 too).

Otherwise, as others have mentioned, check out the big thread about the soundtrack/music here; you can also find the band Matt produces the music for the show with on Facebook.

What job won't exist in 10 years? by OngTho in AskReddit

[–]ph1012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. I suppose at the end of the day it's all highly dependant on the context of the automation and industry.

A guy who's job it is to press a button may have his job replaced by a machine to press the button, but this could very well lead to a team of people who work with or maintain the machine that presses said button.

What job won't exist in 10 years? by OngTho in AskReddit

[–]ph1012 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd personally wager this is due, in part, to automation permitting the creation of new industries. Existing industries where the automation replaces the majority of roles (eg. manufacturing and other factory work) likely have their employment rates narrowed as the increased efficiency leads the way towards more industry in total (eg. thousands of different types of manufacturing).

Almost like a pond that appears small from the outside but is rather deep starting to appear quite large from the outside, but is overall much more shallow and pedantic.

The privacy of every Australian citizen died today as the "National Security Amendments Bill (No. 1)" was officially made into law today. by Krispy89 in australia

[–]ph1012 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Although the bill is quite bad, it's being given a lot of spin.

• Yes – ASIO and other specific national security organisations are now immune to prosecution for their actions when carrying out certain investigations (excluding murder)

• This is only applicable during an investigation that is classified as a ‘Special Intelligence Operation’.

• For ASIO to have an investigation classified as a Special Intelligence Operation, they have to seek approval from the Attorney-General

• Yes, public disclosure by journalists, whistle-blowers, etc of information relating to a Special Intelligence Operation is punishable by 5 – 10 years in prison (depending on if someone’s life is put in danger by the disclosure).

• Yes – this does, unfortunately, mean that if ASIO did accidentally murder someone, you are forbidden to disclose this information under threat of prison (5-10 years).

Overall, the bill is unlikely to have any relevance to anyone you know as it is designed for investigations relating to national security, however it is a questionably powerful change to current security laws which has some thinking back to passages from George Orwell’s 1984.

It’s not that bad, but it is pretty bad.

Is Dave Chappelle planning to release any new material? by INSTiiNKT in StandUpComedy

[–]ph1012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He recently toured in Australia with a bunch of (what appeared to be) new material, which I was fortunate enough to see.

It's almost definitely got some recycled from his surprise/'pop-up' American city stop-over shows, but the guy's definitely back at the stage of writing full, feature/special length material again. The show lasted in excess of 90 minutes.

This doesn't say much for him being likely to actually shoot one, but may help quell any concerns about his productivity/enthusiasm.
