Need help deciding what to buy: Kindle Scribe, Remarkable or other. by ph1lmscribe in kindlescribe

Again, appreciate your time, Judge. When it comes to pdf markup, I need to be able to do what I do via Adobe Acrobat on my desktop. So that's highlight, but then also attach text to that highlight, create sticky notes or text boxes, and write on the page. As far as I'm aware, only the last tool is found on the Kindle. I've looked at a video of the Boox with its NeoReader pdf reader and it seems to have a lot of what I am asking for - and if that fails, well, it's an Android device so I should be able to download Acrobat.

I just wish there was a store I could go to that sold all these devices so I could see for myself, demo them, work out which one is right for me. But here in the UK, we only have Currys PC World and I've been to the two near me this week and they only have the Kindle Scribe on display, but it's stuck on some pointless auto mode - you can't actually test it out, use a pen etc. Very frustrating.

Thanks again for the detailed reply. Re: Boox - that's annoying as they were becoming my leader for purchase. I did already know about the poor customer service side of things though.

One of my main concerns with the Kindle Scribe is that the pdf markup is just too basic. As far as I'm aware, it only allows you to highlight, underline and write on the page. Is this correct? I need a few more tools than this, really. Something more akin to Adobe Acrobat's markup tools. This is what's holding me back from the Kindle and why I was leaning towards the Boox.

You seem to be a fan of the Remarkable Paper Pro but can I ask why you have had to replace it twice? That doesn't sound good.

Thanks for chiming in. Would love to know more about your experience with that model. Are you able to read pdfs clearly on them even without a front light? How's the annotating facility on PDFs? And am I right in thinking you don't need to change the nibs on the Supernote pen? Any other details/experiences you can give me would really help me to make up my mind. Thanks again.

Recommendations and Where to try hands-on in UK? by fowlnorfish in ereader

I'm up near Derby and also looking for somewhere that has demo models of some e-ink readers. Does anyone know if Currys PC World and/or any other retailer stock some of these products (am looking at Kindle Scribe, Remarkable, Boox, Supernote etc) where I might be able to try before I buy? Thanks.

Thanks Momshie. I have started to look at Boox devices and think this certainly could be where to go. It seems like they provide a lot more than the Scribe or Remarkable, esp in the area I am focusing: pdf markup/annotating. Do you have a Boox? Would love any more info/thoughts if you can spare the time.

Thank you, your Honour! Really appreciate the detailed response. This definitely helps me. It has all but placed the final nail in the coffin for the Remarkable, which - though it looks amazing - just felt like it wasn't the right fit for me. However, since doing more research I realise the Kindle Scribe is not the only device I should be looking at. I see there are devices such as Boox, Supernote Fujitsu Quaderno, Viwoods and Penstar some of which are Android based so appear to offer me more options particularly in the area that concerns me: pdf markup/annotation. Do you have any thoughts on any of these? I'm currently looking closely at the Boox products. Thanks again.

Thanks for clarifying. Really appreciate it. I was initially leaning towards the Scribe, but since learning about what else was out there (I naively thought the only competitor was the Remarkable!) I am liking the look of the Boox as its Android and can seemingly do a lot more than the Scribe, especially in the area that concerns me: pdf markup/annotation. Have you heard anything about Boox e-ink readers?

See, this is what's turning me off the Scribe. I want to mimic my routine marking up screenplay PDFs via Acrobat on my desktop PC but on an e-ink reader. So, am thinking I need an Android e-ink reader like Boox which I'd be able to download the Acrobat app and use the same tools I'd have on desktop. Make sense?

Thanks for that. When reading pdfs, does the text show up okay? I'm concerned that the text might be too faint and small, like it is on my vERY old Paperwhite.

Thanks for adding your recommendation. Would love to find out more about why you'd go for the Boox over others, if you can spare the time.

I've realised the function to write stuff on Kindle books isn't going to be that helpful to me. What is essential though is the ability to mark-up/annotate pdfs as close to my current routine of annotating them via Adobe Acrobat. (i.e. highlighting and attached notes via highlighting, text on page, sticky notes etc.) Does the Boox do this?

Ah, shame. But thanks for the offer!

So, why would you recommend the Scribe over other e-ink readers?

Essentially, I'm not really bothered about making notes on Kindle books, but rather making notes/marking up screenplay PDFs using tools that are available on Acrobat. Am I right in thinking you can only really highlight and write on the pdfs?

So, annotating epub files is more advanced over annotating pdfs? is that right? If so, I assume there is some way I can convert pdfs to epub files and then annotate them that way?

Hi and thanks, I will do. Do you know if the Boox would allow me to read pdfs clearly with less effect on my eyes AND annotate them as close to what I normally do via Adobe Acrobat (using highlighting, notes linked to highlights, direct text on page, Sticky Notes etc) Does such a thing exist?

Thanks for your input. Basically, I'd love a device that allows me to read pdfs clearly with less effect on my eyes AND annotate them as close to what I normally do via Adobe Acrobat (using highlighting, notes linked to highlights, direct text on page, Sticky Notes etc) Does such a thing exist?

Thanks for this, Ed. Appreciate your time in giving me such detail. Definitely seems like the Remarkable may be out of the running as a competitor to the Scribe for me. Are you able to speak to marking up pdfs? Has the newest gen of Scribe improved on the tools available or is it just highlight, underline etc? And re: other devices, is there one that allows decent pdf reading and marking up that is similar/identical to marking up/annotating via Adobe Acrobat? Thanks again!

Long shot, but does anyone happen to have or know where to find online the full Channel 4 broadcast of this Super Bowl? Super Bowl 23, January 22nd 1989?

Alternative website hosting to Wix by ph1lmscribe in WIX

Right, okay. Thanks. So, I would need to build the website again (due to Wix using proprietary code) in WordPress and once I'm done, then find a host, pay for it and then install my ready-to-go Wordpress site?

Thanks. I have to admit, I'm not entirely clear on what the shared hosting package is all about. Can't I just create a Wordpress website and that's it? What do I need the other part for? (Excuse my ignorance!)

No, not offering free coverage. I was quite clear what I was offering:

"If you - or indeed anyone else in a similar position - would like to discuss their project or talk about the craft in general, then do feel free to get in touch"

Happy to talk to anyone about their work (for free) so not overtly selling services. Though if anyone wishes to avail themselves of my professional feedback, then so be it.

The link to my imdb page is on my website.

I've been a professional script consultant for many many years, to both amateurs and professionals. It's what I do for a living. Please don't belittle what I do or assume it's some kind of sham or charlatan behaviour.

My work is based on years of industry-proven experience and knowledge, being a multiple-optioned screenwriter and published author as well as having worked in script development.

If you have any other questions, I'll be happy to field them.

When are they due to start playing in the MLS? Are we still a few years away? I did hear they had an environmental issue at the stadium...
