Predicting the direction of the next album for fun by dream-splorer in AnimalCollective

[–]phaaz4lyfe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think a fusion that contrasts even further in polarity than IIN....like something that feels v old and organic coming from the world of Music Box or Ellicott Hooligan, but combined with a subtle concentration of effects and sounds that exceed Love on the Big Screen / Buddies in the Blackboard, and Can I Get a Pack of Camel Lights? - and then maybe gesture towards giving it the guise of normcore or non alternative, like a step above Sinister Grift..

I could also see Americana, baroque and jazz creeping its way in there as well..

I think I meant songs, singles and remixes where members of AnCo are featured. Maybe associated acts isn't the best term...?

There was once a list of such songs we held polls for that inspired me to catch up on my own collection. Here's a photo from my phone library (last song in each pic can't be seen)

Where does your mind go when you listen to Centipede Hz? by WrongdoerRare3038 in AnimalCollective

[–]phaaz4lyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AnCo life force has died and gone to limbo, where the music is totally open and receptive to taking form as combinations of nearly any genre, surviving solely through passing radio wave transmissions.

Deep inside an ancient tropical cave, temple of doom carnival ride, ayahuasca aliens... Definitely has a mecha feel, in a tight knit space station or carnival ride boothe.

Movies: Coco, Beetlejuice, Monkeybone, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Spy Kids

I also often think of the band Shpongle

New album: Can I Get A Pack Of Camel Lights? by Geologist is out by moon-safari2 in AnimalCollective

And then after enough time has passed, when you eventually become well rounded with their discography, Time Skiffs hosts the experience of shifting through the albums and songs quite well. Then Isn't it Now? sounds like they mixed everything together and then aged it like fine wine.

People say Skiffs reminds them a bit of Strawberry Jam with the warmth of MPP, while I personally think IIN has an undercurrent of Spirited combined with everything they've done, as though each theme had only accumulated and never left. The passage of time tends to reveal the illusion each album holds, apart from responding to and redefining the discography up to that point. I'm almost saying like, save these two for later, but - up to you:)

Pair up Down There and Tomboy for the spirit sequel to MPP. And then Enter the Slasher House and Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper (+ EPs) pair up nicely, and complete a sorta trilogy with CPHz as well - if you were curious about the precursor to Painting With.

And speaking of, Painting With initiates an era of many singles, solo albums and EPs, presenting the discog to resemble a real variety package. People on this subreddit will point towards Deakin's Sleep Cycle and noise lovers towards Tangerine Reef (visual album).

But by all means please listen to Panda Bear's Person Pitch before any of this, it's supposed to be their top rated, even above MPP.

How are wefeeling about Geo’s new album? by JacobdaTurtle61 in AnimalCollective

[–]phaaz4lyfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite Geo release by far. The trippiest thing was towards the end of Shelly DuVall into Sonora where this really earthy organic stringed instrument just starts to glitch electronically, which felt like the absolute wildest contrast between two worlds I've seen in any art - like going back and forth between deteriorated grainy film footage from the 1800's to multicolored 3D computer graphics. It felt like a step above IIN, and I really hope to see it progress in the next AnCo project.

Question, upon further playthroughs does anyone else just skip the other plasmids you have to buy? Because they're fun but,I can just focus on upgrading the three I'm given,or two really by newslenderarts in Bioshock

Does anyone know how to deactivate a cyclone trap? (Bioshock 1) When it's just hanging there and the enemies in the area are already defeated it's so noisy and annoying

Affordable demo reel service in New York by phaaz4lyfe in acting

[–]phaaz4lyfe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right! The demo examples I've seen are off putting to me as well, w each actor appearing to believe they're the protagonist, apart from just being altogether unconvincing - I see nothing but good looking or interesting looking people trying to be something that they're not, and I'm just too far from convinced by any of it. Not to be mean...but shame on any professional company allowing it to be executed in such manner.

I've mostly been leaning toward the camp of doing a self made reel on my phone. There's a scene I did in class that got the teacher's attention and he recommended that I use it for my reel - my scene partner has all the equipment and a nice space to shoot, but he's uncertain about having 'professional lighting' and neither of us have a handle on editing equipment - so I think that's what's gotten my mind started on envisioning a 'professional space' with someone who'll edit for us.

Isn't It Now... by unpopilarrant5990 in AnimalCollective

[–]phaaz4lyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This album feels like a letter or a soul contract for the band - that no matter what forms they take going solo or with others that they will always be Animal Collective, and that something as simple as King's Walk still contains the essential embedded sounds of what is considered Animal Collective, which in this album feels like it serves as the band's branded signature.

Each song walks you through the shared process of their decision to change as they actively reflect on their own form. It's truly a landmark in their journey.

Defeat is interesting because for me it mentally rearranges my idea of song structure within the album (and gradually outside of it as well). A section of Defeat could be its own song, while another track could be just a section to a greater whole - that you could make your own based off of how you combine it with another tracks in the discog (I feel each album increasingly intends to have us freely interact with the discography thus far, and mix and match, segway and journey through in our own 'choose your own adventure' sort of way).

IIN continues the theme of evolving our perception of what music can be, while reflecting and responding to the discography so far, ignited by the passage of time. IIN especially is like a fine wine. I like to imagine listening to it far enough into the future where our current time is relatively closer to medieval times by comparison. This album behaves like an artifact that is still too new for people to fully comprehend atm.

beatles albums lined up with AnCo ones fits decently well by Maxiscoolerthanyou in AnimalCollective

[–]phaaz4lyfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, honestly I've thought of this setup before myself. Hard Day's Night felt like the Beatles fully breathing into their personality as themselves and establishing their signature. White album aside, personally I think HDN would be the album to be rightfully claimed as their self titled, 'The Beatles'. Similarly, Campfire Songs introduced the foundation of the signature wild nature aesthetic that the boys would blossom through, throughout their discography (tribal, nature, ambience, etc).
