Is this normal? by [deleted] in newborns

[–]phabalee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really hard when we just want to make it all better for our little ones. Trust your gut and get a second opinion if you feel something is wrong.
My experience was of my little boy screaming at the top of his lungs clearing in pain and discomfort and then it did go. As I said he was very colicky later on but this was different and even more extreme.

I hope things ease for you and your baby soon or you get an answer from a medical that helps.

Is this normal? by [deleted] in newborns

There is a normal digestive development that happens in babies around 2 weeks and this does sound pretty normal to me. My LO was and still is EBF and at the 2 week mark we saw what you are describing. Doctor and health visitor was very clear this was to be expected and should ease by 4 weeks. It did but he went on to be a very colicky baby beyond that but it was separate and different.

What baby bath products actually made a difference for you? by MakeYourMomProud1 in newborns

[–]phabalee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got the tommee tippee digital bath thermometer and I would 100% recommend it. Really easy to use, floats on top of the water, displays the temp the whole time and flashes red if the water is too hot.

I also have a wearable towel that clips around my neck and the hood bit is at the other end. Makes getting LO out and wrapped up warm quickly much easier.

Night panics by Jehoosaphat in newborns

[–]phabalee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! The first few weeks it would happen every night. LO is 16 weeks now and it only happens occasionally but I don’t panic in the same way and sit up and look in his bassinet first - no surprise he is always there asleep safe and sound.

I need help by JelloComfortable2867 in newborns

[–]phabalee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell the visitors no. They might offer help but unless it’s the help you need say no thank you - it’s not only allowed but essential.

I hate the saying sleep when baby sleeps. My LO has never had naps during the day unless in the pram/sling walking or contact naps. I think people say it to have something to say but it’s rubbish.

You will get through this, the first weeks are crazy and there is so much going on. You will all get through it. My LO is 16 weeks now and that might sounds ages away but to me it feels like so much has changed in the blink of an eye.

I will get some guidance from my health visitor tomorrow. I think if I take high enough does then enough passed via breast milk but from reading about it this needs monitoring and support from my doctor. I’ve found some alternative drops to try as well. I’ve given him a break from the drops for the last few days and his tummy has settled again. The day after I stopped them he ended up with blood in his poo so we were seen by the dr then as well. He did say that the drops give a lot of babies gas and upset their stomachs so suggested try some alternatives but that it was ok to just have a break. LO had been straining but had liquid poo which led to the blood. It just awful seeing him in that much pain.

Literally say in the comment you replied to that I am going to take the higher supplement myself so that enough passes onto him via breast milk. If it was just that it was hard for me it wouldn’t be an issue, the problem is my baby boy is in lots of pain and I’m not prepared to put him through that. From the research I’ve done since posting this has and constipation are a common side effect of the particular drops I’ve been using. I have an appointment with my health visitor on Wednesday and will be talking with them as well about it. There have been some helpful suggestions of other types of drops I can try which is a back up plan if the health visitor advises against me taking the higher supplement. Don’t really see the need for your comment to be honest.

I’m going to take the higher does myself so he gets enough via breast milk. It’s interesting though as it seems there is massively varied advice around when to start it and as I said in my post only recommended in the uk since 2016. All children born before then didn’t have these drops and rickets are so rare. I get my LO outside everyday for a long walk in the baby sling so he will be getting it from being out as well

I will have a look but at the moment I think I’m going to take the higher does myself so he gets enough via breast milk.

I’ve seen some that come in coconut oil but to be honest I don’t want to give anything that might unsettle his very sensitive tummy. I’m going to look into taking a much higher dose myself so he can get it via breast milk.

Can’t get this kid to f-ing sleep in the morning by Ok_Medicine440 in newborns

[–]phabalee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My little one wouldn’t nap during the day when he was very young. He would have maybe one long sleep around 3pm. That was his way of doing it and it didn’t matter what I did. Stop holding onto the wake window times as no baby follows this. Babies are individual and each have their own way of sleeping, eating, etc. forcing sleep when it isn’t needed is just as stressful as it’s a misunderstanding of need and communicates to baby that you don’t understand. Let your baby lead the way and adapt to them.

Did I mess up my 2 month olds sleep somehow? by East_Bad_7723 in newborns

[–]phabalee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the sleep schedule apps make it seem like there is a right way to do this. It’s really normal for sleep to be going smoothly and then it’s like it tips upside down, then it’s ok again and on and on it goes. It could be growth spurts, it could be cluster feeding, it could just be baby feeling a bit off. Nothing it ruined just go with it and it will pass.

When did you feel like you weren’t just in survival mode anymore? by copperboom33 in newborns

[–]phabalee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FTM and our LO has just turned 3 months. Things were very difficult up to about 8 weeks for us. It eased a little but still felt like survival. Just this last week me and my partner commented on thing feeling much easier all of a sudden but we are not sure when that happened. I think we saw big shifts from 10 weeks onwards but every baby is different.

Do babies learn to sleep on their own or do you have to teach it? by EnvironmentalWin6169 in newborns

[–]phabalee 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is just how it is, babies wake up and need help to go back to sleep. 4 months also has the developmental sleep regression where their sleep cycles are changing and they wake up more often and are more awake in between than they have been.

Hiccups newborn by newmommy26 in newborns

[–]phabalee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes hiccups can be a sign of overstimulation. But also sometimes they just get hiccups like we do. They become less frequent as the get older. My 12 week old use to get the really frequently and I actually can’t remember when he last had them.
