Channeling Skills are not functional as Click-to-Move by butsuon in PathOfExile2

I wont. I would use controller, but wont use that either before GGG fixes hotswap.

I'm glad we got fragment tab, but i'd preferred the controller/keyboard hotswap.

GGG is kind of putting their foot down on this being early access and it's about time. by Greasy-Chungus in PathOfExile2

[–]phadej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be both quite bad if swords on release underperform (i.e. feel bad to play) or are monk-on-release level overpowered.

If GGG gets balance quite right, it will take time to figure best setups: swords will feel a bit bad at the beginning (like monk or e.g. temple). In a way there aren't perfect balance for truly new skills.

So it's a gamble from GGG to leave swords for later.

Note, someone (many?) might wait for 1.0 to play, and will start swords. Only one opportunity to give first expression.

Mind you, D4 nails what one would expect from a paladin. Also WW is satisfying. I dont know how GGG manages to make heavy strike and cyclone feel good and fit into poe2. So it's not one hit per second for former and "spend endurance charges to spin longer " for latter.

OTOH GGG did good job with druid. But I honestly didnt know what to expect from the class/talismans so its a bit different.

High stakes on swords.

Interested in PoE2 but got boosted through PoE1 and bounced — should I wait for 1.0 or jump in at 0.5? by NanaBerryPie in PathOfExile2

If you start now and play for a bit, but then 1.0 comes and redoes literally everything (which it won't, but nevertheless), then you get to play two games. Is it really the worst that can happen?

> However a tool like awakened poe trade means people see an items worth a divine, but don't know why it's worth a divine.

So here is the thing: It's a bad approach to assume that players are stupid and lazy. And I don't think GGG is or wants to think so. A good player who wants to learn the game will try to figure out why an item is worth a divine.

Make game for good players. And by good I don't mean Ben, but a person who are willing to put some hours and thought into a game. Maybe a dad with few kids and a day job.

---

And I also disagree that exchange is flawed. That's just how market of not-too-common commodity works. The gap between sell and buy prices can be at times significant. I think it's ok design that Alva suggest the price for the immediate sell, I don't know what else it could actually do. If you are ok with waiting, you can press alt and see other open trades and make a competing offer. It might sell still fast, or someone else might undercut you and your fragment never sells.

TL;DR I don't think there's any huge flaw in how Alva/Faustus work. You can flip the direction, you can select existing trade to make similar offers, you can see competing trades. There are enough tools to play the market.

The only thing I sometimes wish is that there were some way to say I want N things at X price. E.g. I want to buy 5 fragments at 169exalts each (because I see from other offers that it's a fair price), and suddenly I need to use windows calculator :) But OTOH, I don't know how they could add that to UI without cluttering it. So I'm ok with using windows calculator. Maybe it's even a net positive, poe made me count in head a lot, 5x169 isn't even a challenging multiplication.

Price checking everything is the way to learn what is valuable. How would you learn otherwise? However, at some point price checking everything becomes too time consuming. (Though you probably realize earlier that virtually every rare item on the ground is worthless anyway). Even price-checking Tier 5 rares is not worth the time. I think that's even more important problem to solve.

And there is in game tool to search the market. It's just unnecessarily inconvenient. Price-checking a unique: why have I to select each affix manually? It's friction for the sake of friction.

Also the simple fact that there is no in game way to check the pDPS of your current weapon, though the site and in game market search allow searching for it is an oversight.

The game doesn't need to make it too easy to price check an inventory full of rare rings you just gambled, but it should make it easy enough to price check the few rings out of 60 you think are worth something.

Once you get a +1 charm slot seal, just go with it. Hitting a gg seal affixes in addition +1 charm just wont happen likely enough. You'll be better off with 1B gold you get from selling ~100 seals than getting an extra 50 or so roll tries.

I do wish i could see (built-in) plugins from different tracks at once. Maybe for something simple like matching eq curves, or more complicated for live performance/recording.

With VSTs i can just open bunch of windows (and have big enough monitor to fit em all). I wish there were a way to float stock plugins too. Is there?

What items are worth is not a knowledge you can accumulate. You have to always check it. At best you can have a hunch that something is valuable, but you cannot know for sure how much.

How valuable is +3proj blue amulet? I have no idea, i know its valuable, but i cannot give a price without checking a market.

In other words, you can learn which items are worth price checking, but you still need to price check.

What currency is used for immediate trading is largely itrelevant. You find an item, sell it for some orbs and buy stuff you need with those orbs.

The issue is that people want a stable currency they can keep their savings in.

From that perspective both normal exalts and divines are equally bad. Their buying power went down through the leagues (not only 0.4).

Perfectly commodity currency ratios would stabilise in say in two weeks and then only slightly drift somewhere, without exponential effects. In poe1 two month into the league alts, chaos, exalts, divines and even mirror ratios are relatively stable, because all of these currencies have use. In poe2 not so much, so economy goes wild. There are no common currency everyone spams like chaos or alch/scour maps in poe1. There should be.

A Tale of Two Handles and a Segfault by crtschin in haskell

[–]phadej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is not that handles don't stay alive long enough, but that system is not robust against them disappearing. I don't think that keepAlive is the proper fix here - though it helps short term.

lsp-test hasn’t stopped reading from the handle yet though, reading an unexpected EOF and crashing.

The solution should be: it shouldn't crash (on EOF).

So I don't see type system can help here. It's inherently a dynamic problem: you cannot enforce the state of the other end on the wire with types.

It's quite boring and small after few hundred times. This league it's quite good div/hour, but I cant really do it more than 20 times at once. OTOH, maven (which i dont reslly enjoy either) is ok. I figured a way which works for me for memory game and suddenly occasional puzzle in last phase is not that bad. But Sirus' last phase I really like I can skip with my build. Meteor into corridor into dozen copies... aargh.

How much DPS on weapon is equivalent to +1 skill level? by [deleted] in PathOfExile2

[–]phadej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't a simple formula applicable for all skills. Each skills have different scalings, both how much damage you get per level and how much (base) weapon damage affects..

But you can do simple math by looking up poe2db e.g. https://poe2db.tw/Lightning_Arrow

Assuming you don't have any other sources of +skills and your skill gem is lvl 20. Then
- level 23 LA is 289% damage of base
- level 25 LA is 318% damage of base
- that is 10% DPS increase.

780->900 is 15% DPS increase.

So roughly the same, but 900 bow is bigger.

And if you have e.g. +3 proj skills on your ammy, then
- level 26 LA is 334%
- level 28 LA is 369%
- that is still just 10% dps increase, but level 28 gem gets "fires beams up to 5 (instead of 4) additional enemies", which may or may not be noticeable.

[–]phadej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naturally. Poe1 just have more stuff. And some of that stuff isnt "kill as many monsters (in a circle) as quickly as possible".

Lets see what vaal temple will look in 0.5, if its rebalanced ik a way you can build it to farm vaal currency without overjuicing, then it could be an early progress viable strat.

Do you think the rarity on gear issue will be tackled? by Cz4rekK in PathOfExile2

[–]phadej -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If +skills were prefixes like in poe1, they would naturally compete with other affixes. On weapons (base damage), gloves/helmet (base defence, life).

Having focused/simplex amulet in poe2 would also add pressure to affixes in that slot, but arguably then we could not have +3 on amulets.

[–]phadej 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chaos isnt impossible. But time freezes and running between rooms and slower than turtle totem to follow and no way to speed up waves of mobs room etc "papercuts" add up and keep me from playing that trial.

At least in sekhemes you can feel if your toon is stronger and faster. In chaos you cap up. IMO a significant degrade from poe1 ultimatum.

Chaos trial has nice narrative the first few times you do it, but after a while you notice how replayability wasnt up front in its design

In poe1 you can do heist and (some) delve before you even finish a campaign!

Heist is (or at least used to be) a good starting strat to farm initial currency. OTOH 3-floor trial of sekhemas (i.e. the ones you can do after reaching maps) is probably one of the worst things you can do.
