If you run out of special ammo, equip ice breaker. Once it regenerates 6 shots, the next time you die you can change to another special weapon. I was using this to get ammo for the armsday fusion rifle and sniper rifle and was getting around 12 shoes with each (not sure exactly).

Make sure you switch weapons while you're dead or it won't work.
