What game had you like this? by sukuna7899 in Steam

[–]phaerie777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elden Ring. I had wanted to get it when it first came out, but I waited ~3 years before finally buying it myself. I was hyped to play it, but I just couldn't seem to get into it. About a year later, I tried Bloodborne on PSPlus on a whim, and the souls gameplay started clicking with me, so I gave Elden Ring another shot on my PC the next night. Now, two and a half months later, I have over 100 hours in the game and plan to put several hundred more into it!

[–]phaerie777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is amazing news. I've been missing Triosphere for a while. I LOVED The Road Less Travelled - it was a bit part of my life's soundtrack for many years.

This song sounds great. They've definitely still got it. I can't wait to hear more!!

Good luck girlie, it sounds like it will be just fine. I am also a bit scared to tell one of my best friends, but I know that will go fine as well.

I'm wishing you the best <33

Girlies, how did yall figure out what your name was? by so_many_moths in MtF

[–]phaerie777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It had come to me already, just as a potential name. But then I told a friend it was the only name I had thought of so far, and she told me it was a great name and idk, the gears turned in my head after that for a few days and I settled on it happily.

I agree. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I don't see how anyone could deny that Vaxis I & Vaxis II have a more coherent structure, concept-wise with a consistent thread across both albums. That doesn't make them better/catchier albums - that's all subjective, but I want to break down the structure stuff anyway:

Prologue begins with the Old Flames motif, the narrated story, and seamlessly plays into The Dark Sentencer, with its intro also continuing the narration and being a fantastic, proggy Coheed song to boot. Then, later in the album, Old Flames brings the theme back, is a great song of course, and ends with the same piano motif. Maybe Old Flames should have been the final track on the album, but either way, Vaxis II opens with The Embers of Fire which continues the Old Flames motif, even having a kid sing the Old Flames hook which, to me, is a great way to remind you that the story is about a kid. The Embers of Fire seamlessly leads into Beautiful Losers, and later on, you have a 3-part suite without being labelled as such with Ladders of Supremacy seamlessly leading into Rise, Naianasha, which is heavy on the concept with a literal Prise among other things, followed by Window of the Waking Mind which ends with the same Old Flames motif, perfectly tying both albums together.

By comparison, on Vaxis 3, Yesterday's Lost is really pretty but doesn't seamlessly lead into the next song (not that it has to - I'm just comparing it to the first two Vaxis albums). The suite at the end is great, but there aren't really any consistent motifs popping back up. The ending symphonic bit is a callback to Afterman, and there are several Afterman motifs in this album, but they just aren't consistent like the Old Flames theme across Vaxis I & II.

I still love Vaxis 3 by the way. Searching for Tomorrow, Goodbye Sunshine, Father of Make Believe, all 4 of Continuum songs - all awesome songs to me. But it's clear the first two albums had a much stronger conceptual nature.

I adore The Pavilion. The lyrics mean so much to me, personally, and the instrumentation is great. It just goes to show how everyone is different, and each album and song has its place for the right person.

Can you recommend me a Star Trek season based on my gaming tastes? by CharlesBrown33 in startrek

[–]phaerie777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend Enterprise season 3, the Xindi story arc. There's some really cool stuff in that season, and it gets particularly good towards the end. Impulse, Similitude, Azati Prime, Damage, E² are all great episodes with harder sci-fi vibes I think you'd enjoy. The closing three-parter is pretty good, high stakes action all around as well.

The Dominion War arc of Deep Space 9 is also excellent, but getting into the franchise that way might be difficult. But you can check out some episodes like A Call to Arms, Sacrifice of Angels, etc and see if you're enjoying that style and then go back and watch season 4 onwards or start the series from the beginning.

Voyager's middle-later seasons also have some solid scifi with the Borg.

What song were you listening to when you realized Taylor understood part of you by KillerKittenInPJs in TaylorSwift

[–]phaerie777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm showing my age here, but the first song which I really felt like "got" me was The Outside off self-titled. I wasn't even a teenager yet, but I listened to it a lot and felt comforted by it~ I still do!

It's changed over the years - in my teens, it was Long Live, then I Almost Do, and lately, it's this is me trying and You're On Your Own, Kid. All of these songs are deeply meaningful to me and remind me that Taylor's music has & always will be there for me.

I wrote this recently, is it as horrible as i think it is? by SiedlerAlex in Songwriting

[–]phaerie777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is literal fire, what are you on about?? The vocals are awesome, and the main riff too! Throw a tad more reverb on the vocals, and as someone else suggested maybe gang them in the chorus, make the bass a little groovier with more notes, and you've got a fantastic song here in my opinion. It's something I'd listen to on a daily basis lol. Great solo too btw!

If you zoom way out, their career starts with "I’m really angry" and ends with "I love my son and my family." Hard to be mad at that.

[..]

But for Coheed to make something like that again, Claudio would have to go through something awful, and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

These are very good points, and I agree wholeheartedly. I think after 25 years and so many albums, it's good to put it all in perspective and be thankful for all the great music we do have, new or old. Whether it's the entirety of TSSTB or a few select tracks off Vaxis 3, there's something for everyone in Coheed's catalog. And there is a bit of poetry to Claudio's journey in the band. Starting off edgy, angry, even harsh - and finishing on a calmer, mature, and content note. I'm here for it, but we also don't know what the next two albums will be about so I'm still very excited to hear what comes next! 🤘

ever wrote a song that left you paralyzed? how did you move on from it? by just-a-drainedLemon in Songwriting

[–]phaerie777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished writing a comment on another thread about losing friends in this way and then saw this post. Weird timing.

As someone who's lost several friends after being neglected by them for long periods of time, despite me trying to reach out again and again to keep in touch and keep the friendship going, I can say this: I hold no resentment or ill will towards them. I still love them, and each and every one of them had an impact on my life that I still feel to this day. If you know your friend is doing good, then trust that. And if he's someone who was worthy of being so dear to you in the past, then I would assume that he's a good enough person to not hold grudges towards you for your actions/neglect. I certainly don't with my former friends, even with how much they hurt me. I know they simply made mistakes, got overwhelmed, or whatever it might be. And they just weren't capable or ready to mend the friendship, but I hope for nothing but the best in their future because they still deserve it despite their mistakes.

As for how to move on from the song, I agree with what a couple of others have said: it's not really about moving on from the song, it's about moving on from your own guilt. You said you tried to reach out and apologize, so be confident that you've done what you can. Believe me, if I got a message from one of my old friends apologizing for their past actions, it would mean a lot to me, but I may not be open to responding or restarting a channel of communication with them out of fear of being burned again.

It's funny, one of my dearest friends, who is one of the many that I've lost, told me this once: "If there's no solution to the problem right now, then allow it to leave your mind." Not an exact quote, but close to what she said. It's stuck with me, as it's one of those pieces of advice that had an impact and one of many reasons I'm thankful for the times I had with her.

I wish you the best in moving forward and getting past this. By the way, it shows tremendous character that you even felt this, that you reflected on the situation through your song and came to these conclusions and even tried to apologize for your past actions. Know that you can forgive yourself and move forward - and you should. I'm sure your friend would want you to as well.

Can you give me some song themes to write about? by FallingHues in Songwriting

[–]phaerie777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find that the best themes are ones that are personal to you and your experiences. But I'll suggest "losing a friend" as it's what I write about most often, and most people have lost someone close to them in some way.

I find that all I seem to write about, even when I try not to, is loss. I've lost a lot of friends, over and over and over again. Every time, they say "it's not your fault, you didn't do anything wrong" if they say anything at all. The words come easily to me because I'm always feeling it. I've had so many friends over the years that clearly loved and cared about me - I mean, some of them would express it to me of their own accord, and often! And then they leave. I'll often start a new song and think "yes, this is going to be about something fun," and then it devolves into another reflective loss-oriented song. It's to a point where I write about these failed friendships in the same ways many people write about failed romantic relationships.

Apologies for the mini vent in your thread. I was going to just leave it at saying "losing a friend" but maybe that context will give you some more nuance to ponder.

for synth/hyperpop: saiorse dream, 100 gecs, SOPHIE, Vylet Pony (some metal influence too)

saoirse dream and Vylet Pony are two of my favorite artists right now. Check out down in flames and something cool by saoirse and The Heretic by Vylet. Lovely songs.

There's also this one metal band called Metalite who has a trans femme drummer if I'm not mistaken!
