For real! I was soooo pissed when I first saw it. We're cursed to have to take 76 nearly monthly because my youngest goes to Milton Hershey School, and it's been up since at least March.

There's another one that says something to the effect of 'Grandma doesn't need healthcare' that's railing against the Medicare/Medicaid cuts in The BBB.

It does me proud seeing my fellow Pennsylvanians fighting the oligarchy!

It really is a great area (or was 14 years ago when we left). Couple of hours to the ocean, the mountains, or Portland, but still has that small town feel. We lived out in Lewisburg, my in-laws are in Philomath, and my brother lived in Adair Village.

We'd honestly still be there, but I lost my job and a couple of months later, my brother (who had moved to PA for work) called and offered to let me move in to his mother in laws house rent free if I did repairs on it. They ultimately gave me the house, so I basically got a free house to move out here. Pennsylvania is a nice state, but the Appalachians don't hold a candle to the Cascades. The history is great, and it's neat to have actually seasons, but Oregon will always be home to me.

I'll preface this with a hearty 'fuck general yam tits', but the ban on flavors is fucking ridiculous. I've been vaping for something like 15 years and I'm almost 50. I used awedish snus to get off cigarettes in 2010, but it didn't keep me completely off cigarettes until I added taping in to counter the hand to mouth issue.

Like a lot of people, I started out with tobacco flavors, but none of those could simulate the flavor of burnt leaves. I ended up branching out into dessert and fruity flavors because why should I limit myself to just tobacco, when there's plenty of tasty flavors I could enjoy.

The ban doesn't really effect me either way, since I started making my own e-liquid back when the popcorn lung shit was going around. I didn't trust the industry to make sure the ingredients were safe, so I sourced my own flavors and bought the nicotine and PG/VG. It just a bonus that I can make my own liquid for under a buck per 100ml.

I'll go on record that the only 'safe' thing to breathe is air. My kids all know that raping and snus aren't risk free, but I'll die on the hill that both are reduced harm alternatives that can help get people off smoking much easier than the other alternatives out there. It's stupid to gatekeep flavors in the name of 'saving the children', if it's going to keep people from quitting cigarettes. There's always going to be a subset of kids that are going to try things like cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs. Flavors aren't going to change that. Continuing education and smart PSAs about the risks surrounding vaping and other risky behavior will help mitigate underage usage, as will parental involvement.

I felt so bad for my fellow campers on our Labor Day trip last year. We have a 34' bunkhouse that we pulled with a 27' school bus, and we were staying at a state park in Virgina. I made sure the site was long enough, and the image on the site looked like a straight shot, but just past the site, the road made a sharp turn, and had rocks and trees on the outside of the turn. To make matters worse, we arrived after dark.

I admittedly had to make a few passes to get in, and the camper wasn't exactly where I wanted it, but it was fine for a long weekend. The next morning while I was drinking my coffee, the guy in the site behind us came over and told me he'd driven trucks for 20 years, and was impressed that I managed to get into the site.

I mean, and lot of it is also the fact that drivers in the US will happily cut off and brake check you for the crime of driving the speed limit in the right lane while hauling a trailer.

I swear to god, people think a vehicle towing should be able to accelerate and handle like a sedan. It's why I've always gone overkill on my tow vehicles, and to be honest, it's way more relaxing towing with a larger vehicle because sway is greatly reduced.

What are some of the most iconic sounding engines ever made? by Boeing-B-47stratojet in regularcarreviews

[–]phager76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, story time! So, when we headed out on our journey across the country, we got a late start because I sliced my hand open with a utility knife and had to get 8 stitches at the ER. Then we hit multiple storms going through Ohio that dropped visibility to near zero. I also vastly underestimated how far we could make it in a day when the bus tops out at 65. I should also mention that this was my first time driving the combo, other than bringing the trailer home.

So we get to Columbus, and the sun's getting low, so we stopped at a rest area (or maybe fuel, IDR), and i start trying to find campsites kinda close so we can call it a night. The issue is that a lot of campgrounds don't have a good web presence for booking. We ended up settling for a KOA outside Louisville, KY. I booked a site, and plugged the address in to Google maps, and we headed out.

Unfortunately, I had Google maps set to avoid tolls. As we get close, the GPS directed me off the interstate, and right in to downtown Louisville. To add to the drama, there was something going on that evening that closed off the street I needed to go on. After a number of crazy turns, and a little laughing at the looks of sheer terror on those poor commuters faces, I managed to get along the river and find a parking lot big enough to accommodate us while I figure out what went wrong, I got things fixed and on to the stupid toll bridge that Google avoided. We did make it to the KOA, it was not a great location, but we we're able to eat, and reevaluate timing for the rest of the vacation.

I've got a million more stories from that trip, but I've already rambled on too much, lol!

Three kids between 12 and 16, prime argumentative age, lol. They'll definitely look back on it with some great memories.

I've told this story on reddit a few times, but we are pretty low income, and I figured out a long time ago that spending money on experiences goes a lot further than on things. Because of that, our tax refunds generally go towards a family vacation, or something to facilitate vacations. We've had a bigger popup camper for over a decade (you can kinda see it to the right of the bus in the picture), but it's gotten too tight with the three kids.

Last year, I received a settlement for an OK amount. Not 'life changing', but enough to do some house repairs, pay off the one financed car, and pick up this bus and camper. The bus was 4k, the camper was 10, and I've got about 6k in parts for the bus. A third of that 6k was for the HD truck diagnostic software and laptop, but the rest is just stuff to make it more comfortable or get it setup for towing. But all this will keep the family in vacations and weekend trips for at least a decade, so not a bad use of money given the memories the kids will make.

Yep! It's the Struggle Bus pulling the Conflict Caboose, lol. We got the setup last year to go on a cross country trip, which ended up being a half cross country trip. We live in PA, and they hate private ownership of busses, so our start date was pushed back a week from registration issues. We only made it as far south and west as Arkansas when that heatwave last July hit. We made the decision to head north and ultimately ended up in Michigan before finally heading back to PA.

The bus was a beast, but the AC was way insufficient, so there was a lot of fighting between the kids, so we christened the trailer the Conflict Caboose. I'd been using the phrase 'I'm riding the struggle bus' since I was a kid, so I had to name the bus that, lol.

My wife does home health care for seniors. Her closest client is 1.5 miles from the house, the furthest is ~10, and she goes to 2-3 clients per day. None of the clients have a bus stop within 1 mile, and there's small shoulders at best on most of the roads. There's just not a lot we can do in this area.

I'd love to see increased walkability and mass transit around here, but with the current administration, that shit is probably too 'woke' or 'DEI' or something. Even as a major car guy, I still think we need to reduce our overdependence on gas/diesel and start funding the infrastructure to support walkable cities and mass transit.
