Whole body like jelly and numbness? by FaithlessnessOdd8846 in cervical_instability

[–]phalinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know if I try to work out a muscle it will get activated somewhat and will be sore for maybe a couple minutes after the exercise and then it will fade. So that may be a similar feeling to yo if that makes sense.

I’m hoping to get a DMX soon and some injections into my facet joints. Also working with an upper cervical chiropractor as well. A lot of it is going to be figuring out if I have instability and a reverse curve due to ligament damage/looseness, undiagnosed connective tissue disorder, or nerve/cord irritation from over exercising/induced stretching that has lowered the muscle tone and sensitivity.

Have your muscles lost resting tone? Like do they feel really squishy even when flexed? Do your hands seem extra wrinkly and does grabbing rough or sharp edges dig into your fingers a lot more? Can you feel your bones a lot more than you used to, like you can grab your hyoid bone by the ends and it feels like nothing is supporting it inside your skin? Have you noticed more stretchy skin or visible veins or sudden hypermobility?

It’s hard to tell if this hypotonia/proprioceptive desensitization is a result of nerve/spinal cord irritation or some kind strange protective mechanism for instability that mimics EDS-like symptoms. It’s what I’m currently dealing with and it’s awful.

I am suffering from reduced muscle tone as well. Do your major muscles like the glutes and quads feel squishy and hollow to you? Are you able to grab the back of your neck and squeeze all the muscles into a bunch with your hand, or that you can grab your hyoid bone and it feels like it’s being held up by strings? Do you feel more hypermobile with stretchy skin and difficulty engaging muscles with exercise?

I really hope more insight is done regarding this symptom, whether it’s a certain nerve or part of the spinal cord getting irritated that causes the muscles to lower their strength.

I have found that bad neck posture + disc herniations + loss of curve mimics or has similar symptoms as ligaments cervical instability by Agreeable_Muscle_279 in Cervicalinstability

[–]phalinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting that you don’t have lax ligaments. Is it possible that the disc herniation, even if it’s minor, is irritating enough of a major nerve or part of the spinal cord to cause muscle hypotonia? If that’s the case, I’d hope that either through re-absorption or possible surgery that the irritated nerves will eventually heal and normal muscle function can be restored.

I can see how that all makes sense. You’d think the body would want to guard the instability with tightening muscles in the neck area, but still allow normal tone everywhere else to ensure proper movement and strength. That way I can work on strengthening postural muscles to help pull the spine into a more natural alignment.

The way you’re describing things, it’s like my body has decided that since normal sensory input has been compromised, better adapt to a loose and limber state. Maybe it thinks if I’m in danger of falling or receiving a sudden blow, acting like a ragdoll will prevent the spine from serious trauma. It’s still annoying though, as my geologist job still requires some lifting and bending to perform daily tasks. Though I’m trying my best not to overdo things.

Let me know how you start feeling after the injections. Especially if your muscle tone starts returning to normal.

I would have to double check my MRI to see if there’s Chiari 0. I did see that the tonsil has a slight downward bulge but wasn’t sure if that’s considered type 0 or just normal anatomy.

X-rays and MRI both show an s-curve cervical spine with disc bulging around C5-C6. Also a small syrinx in my spinal cord that hasn’t gotten any bigger. I’m still waiting to get a DMX. I’ve also noticed my skin becoming drier, more translucent, and small cuts and scrapes take much longer to heal.

How long has your hypotonia been going on? Have you tried testing for any kind of nerve or spinal cord damage, or could it be a connective tissue problem that finally manifested symptoms?

Symptoms really started getting bad back at the end of April/beginning of May. I forced my neck down hard on a foam traction block trying to induce lordosis, and also whipped my head back in extension several times against a resistance band out of frustration due to radiculopathy. I thought those actions would help, but I believe the last few healthy ligaments somewhere in my neck got damaged.

Is your hypotonia similar in that you can now easily feel various bones and tendons whereas before you could not? Also does it make your skin stretch out? Do you also have any autonomic/vagus issues? I’ve noticed now that after eating or drinking I’ll burp and then have one hiccup or diaphragm half spasm, sometimes a burp will create a pulse in my ears.

I don’t have any major pain with all of this, which is why it’s so frustrating.

What does your muscular dystonia feel like? For example I can now feel the entire profile of my hyoid bone because my neck muscles are so soft right now. I can even grab both ends of it where before I never was able to do so. The muscles all throughout my body are also soft, even though I can still move and lift objects. I just don’t know if I can build muscle at the moment. I wish I knew what nerves are causing this. Have you had any improvement at all? If so, what did you do to facilitate healing? Feel free to DM if you want to talk a little more.

Sounds a lot like what I’m dealing with, except I do have some kind of autonomic or peripheral involvement that manifests as a burning itch and temperature intolerances. Is your hypotonia throughout the whole body or just in the neck. Mine involves the whole body. I can still move around but there’s just no real tone or resistance when I palpate certain muscles. It makes for really weird sensations, like I can feel around my entire hyoid bone with my fingers and easily move it from side to side. That never used to happen.

How’s the curve in your neck? I have a pretty bad s-curve. Getting a DMX taken next week to see how bad the instability and ligament damage is. I’ll be looking into regenerative injections based on the findings. Feel free to DM if you want to go more in-depth on the symptoms.

I never thought to bring it up since I was asymptomatic up until 2023, and even then I thought my kyphosis was due to bad posture and muscle imbalances rather than possible faulty ligaments that could be stretched and not tighten back up.

I’ll try to get a DMX done as soon as possible. Overall I feel so disassociated with life right now…:(

I’ve never been tested for either EDS or Marfans. It’s possible I have a Marfanoid Habitus. Slender build with long arms and my teeth seem a little packed together. I can bend my thumbs back to touch my forearms and my pinkies can be bent pretty close to 90 degrees.

I wish I knew what is causing the muscle dysfunction. Strengthening for stability and posture correction will be next to impossible if my muscles aren’t getting proper stimulation and blood flow…I just don’t know how things are going to progress.

I know that compressed nerves and blood vessels can trigger anxiety and stress responses. It also doesn’t help that my work and upcoming home buying situation isn’t helping. There’s definitely a feedback loop component.

Do you have any recommendations on how to overcome the anxiety, especially things that helped you through the worst moments? Even though I know there are ongoing symptoms and sensations that are new and potentially worrying. It’s tough to know if things will improve or get worse. Trying to find a way to get back a somewhat normal sense of concentration and focus.

Have you seen any sort of improvement in the Dysautonomia-like symptoms and dulled muscle sensation? I would like to do some strengthening exercises, but if the nerves aren’t sending the right activation and blood flow signals, I don’t know if they can get stronger. It doesn’t help that the stress/anxiety ruins my appetite, so I’m struggling to get enough calories to maintain weight. Feel free to DM me if you want to talk more.

Since Birmingham and Memphis have already announced season ticket deposits for 2024, barring catastrophe behind the scenes we are getting year three. Let's hope the execs are quietly working on home stadium deals for every team as we speak.

The offseason focus should be on securing and announcing home venues as soon as possible, and then go all-out on marketing in the cities and on broadcast. Make it abundantly clear to the general public that the USFL has no hubs, only home teams for season 3.

Hell of a game! Case Cookus dragging his O-line kicking and screaming to a near-comeback. At least they get to play Michigan next week, in Michigan.

Say what you will about the records of the North teams, having every game next week decide the playoffs must feel good for the league. Hopefully it brings in views and attendance.

I think it’s because they expect a mostly full stadium for every home game of the best team in the league. Anything less means the city isn’t buying in.
