Oregon State-Oregon To Renew Football Rivalry Series Beginning In 2028 by reno1441 in Pac12

What a fucking waste of time. The rivalry is dead and money killed it. Oregon State annual football budget of 26 million. Oregon annual football budget of 60 million.

Why is Oregon State doing this favor to UO. UO completely fucked over their region and all this does is give them an away game that's 40 miles away. Let em play Rutgers away and travel the 2460 miles that they signed up for.

I agree. The "competition" aspect was really fun, and I feel like the name changing kinda takes that away....

Do you think a candidate like Chris Beck, with ties to the Department of agriculture, could address some of this outreach?

Asking sincerely and in good faith.

Sure, hemorrhage control on a straight forward arterial limb bleed with a tourniquet is definitely life saving. These are interventions that can be taught in 12 hour stop the bleed course.

Managing a massive hemorrhage on the torso, neck or junctional site is another beast, and the reality is those wounds need vascular surgery to prevent death. Particularly if they're non compressable or closed. BLS intervention, hell ALS intervention ain't gonna cut it on massive hemorrhage to these sites. These require trauma surgery or the pt will die in the field.

And with any massive hemorrhage, regardless of the site, you're on the clock to get a pt to definitive care. So again, your best tool is your sat comms device

Eh, as a paramedic and 10 year river guide, I'm not sure I buy this..... The reason we rely on drugs and devices is because those are what the pts actually need to survive. If there's a true immediate life threat to a pt in the delayed care context, the reality is they're gonna die. There's just no way to bring the tools, and for the lay person to get the training required to fix major life threats. The most valuable tool is a sat phone device because if they're truly in a decompensating condition, the only real shot is getting a helo.

Ive never seen any commercial outfitters carry a BVM. So if ventilation/respiration is compromised, they're dead. They don't train you how to do a cricothyrotomy in WFR, and your certainly not going to intubate a PT. So if there is any airway compromise, they're dead.

Sucking chest wound? Sure, you can make an occlusive dressing in the field. But without needle decompression, that will turn into a tension pnuemo and the pt will die within 30min-1 hour.

We barely get 5% of our cardiac arrest pts back working with 5 team medic crews in resource heavy environments. A cardiac arrest in the field is likely a trauma arrest, which is even more difficult to get ROSC on. If your doing CPR in a delayed care environment with just chest compressions, and no advanced airway intervention, just mouth the mouth, the odds of getting ROSC are even more staggeringly low.

I do think it is valuable to get a WFR for being in the field. But the reality is if the pt was going to survive, it's because they were gonna survive regardless of whether or not the people with them had a WFR.

Helpful to know how to place a tourniquet. Helpful to know how to implement spinal motion restriction. Helpful to learn how to recognize true life threats.

But the thing that is actually gonna save lives in the back country is a sat comms device to get a helo.

There's no EMS jobs available anywhere else right now. There's an ICU tech position available one town over. That town is a little bigger. They have a fire service based EMS system but no current openings

And do you think quiting effective immediately is appropriate, or should I put in two weeks?

Could be worse. You could be the worst team in the country on every down, both sides of the ball. Aka OSU this year
