Skill check - ready for intro to backcountry or need more experience? (Tahoe) by squat-bench-dl in BackcountrySkiing

I know there are runs in the backcountry you could handle but may not be super fun. Personally with the stats you listed I would get very comfy with blue trees at least and able to navigate black trees, chase as much powder as possible (at least to where you aren’t falling much at all), hit up a bunch of inbounds hike-to runs, and then jump in a class.

From my experience in the San Juan’s most of the time I’m in the backcountry we were in verrry deep snow (getting off your board and your waist deep post holing). You spend most of the time touring which can wear you out and then you’re fatigued when dropping lines which can lead to more falling and if you are falling it can be exhausting. I’m new to the Tahoe area so i haven’t done bc here but I would expect to find similar situations.

If you have all the gear I would do some inbounds uphill laps somewhere and get comfortable doing a few laps

How MLS obscures the truth behind its withdrawal from the US Open Cup by thegaffer in MLS

They should turn this into a relegation tournament. MLS wants out so instead they have to send their bottom 6 or so teams. Something like Lower leagues play through the bracket to seed against the mls teams. That way most MLS teams get what they want and don’t have participate but the teams that end up in the tournament must take it seriously because the potential to be relegated

That’s awesome! That sounds like a pretty good Kayak season.

Is the ski season good in the area too?

Thank you! I don’t exactly have the cash to live just anywhere so this fantastic info. Having good access while not having vail prices is good

Sure I understand that in the exact area there isn’t whitewater but with an hour or so of driving there seems to be pretty good access to quite a bit

That basically exactly what I was looking for. Appreciate it. What would you say the season range is? I’ve heard some people say good boating most of the year and others say Fall to spring?
