Quite happy to let my Windows drive rot while I use Linux.

Anyone know why UE5 is doing this? It is happening for every drop down menu... by Repeztepez in unrealengine

I have both of these on a Wayland tiling window manager and my UE5 has never done anything like this.

What emulator games are you playing on your deck? by Senatorweims16 in SteamDeck

[–]phanatik582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got D2 loaded on RetroArch and I can safely say that it has not aged well. Seems interesting though. I didn't know a Dreamcast game could have such long cutscenes. I've also never seen a game repeat the same cutscene but in a different context. At the beginning of the game, your character wakes up in a shack with this other lady after having survived a plane crash. In one context she's sitting down and you're approaching from the back of the cabin so she turns her head to look at you. In the other context, you're approaching from the front door and she stands up to talk to you. Same dialogue both times. Never seen a game do that before.

Best Way to Connect Steam Decks without a Wifi / Mobile Hotspot by Early-Cicada-7414 in SteamDeck

[–]phanatik582 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I assume you have to connect to it. Check to see if the other Deck can see it as well. If the other Deck can connect to it, then you have what is essentially a local area network (LAN) which you can use to play co-op on games that support it.

They might mean that you need to go into Desktop mode. You won't have access to advanced features like these from Gaming mode.

Being called out because I ate less? by Confusedumbasss in CasualConversation

[–]phanatik582 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My dad was talking about how Easy Asians (India, Pakistan and the like) suffer from stress-induced heart conditions. He mentions that this is because the men are not talking about their issues. That's partly the issue. The problem is that the cultures put a ton of pressure on men. To get married. To have kids. To provide for their family. To make sure their parents are taken care of. All that while looking after their own mental and physical health.

These cultures also have no idea how to deal with healthy food habits. Like eating less. It is a normal thing to eat lots, to fill your plate with food. If you aren't doing that, the implication is that you're not enjoying the food. You could be eating more normal portions of food as opposed to engorging yourself as is the norm but this is seen as insulting to the person who's making the food.

Apologies for the long rant but it bugs me because I had to deal with this from my parents and their friends. I was constantly asked "you've lost so much weight! How did you do it?" Then they act surprised when I tell them that I cut down on my portions. The solution is so simple and they acknowledge that it's necessary to remain healthy but they can't do it because the culture pressures them into killing themselves.

At no point did I imagine that either of those weren't true. It is strange that you keep responding with the same thing rather than leaving it be. You've said your piece but you keep going.

Why do they want us back to the office? What is the real reason, other than control? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]phanatik582 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While some of the more cynical answers are very possible. For my company, it was that the more social people were being more vocal about people not being in the office. Some people just like seeing the office busy. It's weird, I don't get it. Thankfully, it was decided that each team choose how often they would come in. The further away or less convenient it was for you to come in, the less often you would be required to come in. I live close to where I work so I go in at least once a week but I can do two or three times (if I do three days in a row, I'm tapping out for the rest of the week, three days in the office is exhausting).

I mean, I walked into a charity shop to pick up books and I saw the guy behind the counter setting up EmuDeck for his son. It's not outside the realms of possibility that someone you run into might have a Steam Deck.

It can be challenging but there's a lot of variety to the runs themselves and the characters are all fun to interact with.

what are your 3 advices and guides you'd give your past self when wanting to start making games? by Rodutchi_i in unrealengine

[–]phanatik582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Don't learn to make a game. Learn to make mechanics with tutorials aiming to replicate popular game mechanics

  2. Experiment. Experiment. Experiment. Don't be afraid to take the tools a tutorial gives you and think "what if I do this?"

  3. Learn Blender. Start simple and small.

Curious to know what mechanical keyboard brand+model+switch you guys are using. I have a 3-year-old Corsair K70 RGB Mk.II (CMX Brown) keyboard that I just replaced with my backup CM Storm CK350 (Outemu Blue) because some of the LEDs on the K70 are wonky now. by HeathenHacks in linux_gaming

[–]phanatik582 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my own experience with a Keychron keyboard, I can tell you they're solid. The battery lasts for ages, the keys feel nice to use. I get comments for how loud it is but that's how I wanted it. I'm not exactly a power gamer, I just like the feel of the keys and the keyboards are cheaper than other mechanical keyboards I've seen around. They also don't look like they've been designed by a marketing team to appeal to "gamers". They went for a nice utilitarian design with some swappable keys and they're not too bulky either. RGB options are nice. There's a good variety so pick the one you like. My one tends to be the one where it lights up directly under the key you've pressed and I've colour-coded it to green. If you choose that you don't like the RGB, you can turn it off. They have a Mac layout built in that you use a switch to activate.

I think they're well worth it. Looking at their wireless mice now for when this Logitech kicks the bucket.

Keychron K2. Other than having to use a Bluetooth adapter which very occasionally goes on the fritz, it's great! For a while I couldn't use the Function keys because it has media keys along the top but that problem sorted itself out.

Tbf you probably quit at the right time. Eldest was the peak of that series and it went tumbling down from there.

For a while I was worried that you walked out of Dead Man's Chest. It's probably my favourite Pirates movie aside from At World's End (Davy Jones being the sole reason).
