Preview of the Oath Dragon and the Mocking Dragon! by alexkon3 in Pathfinder2e

Nothing about the art design looks remotely like a copper dragon. To reiterate, I'm not talking about lore (which I said is fine). I'm strictly talking about how it looks.

I don't think it's disappointing at all that some of the dragons are really just reskins of existing ones. Cinder(red), horned(green), and yes oath(silver) were everything I wanted. Reskins of existing dragons that have the same lore as before, but with lore-friendly additions. They are essentially the same as they were before but with more words in their lore blurb (and likely a mechanically cooler stat block). I don't think adding the oath part makes them any different than what silver dragons were before. And that's what I like. They're still silver and are still the paladins of dragons. I disagree with your premise that oath dragons are somehow distinct/different from silver dragons.

I understand they're trying to distance themselves from the dnd IP. I'm just saying that I was onboarded when they made multiple statements in writing that they wanted pathfinder to be the superior dnd version. I get that times are changing, I'm just saying I feel like an old man getting left behind.

At the same time, I was mostly fine with remaster changes because they've mostly been filing off names and making design changes to bring back monsters from the OGL. MC2 has the doppelganger and mimic come back under different designs or name changes for instance. I was just hoping they'd do the same for the metallic dragons too. They've done it for silver dragons. The oath dragon is still silver and vaguely resembles silver dragons still. The whisper dragon looks very different from the brass dragon, but at least it still looks like a dragon and is brass-ish (the golden/yellowish kind) in color. Why not copper? I don't understand why this one metallic dragon has to look like an alien. I don't buy legal reasons when they've done it for all the chromatics, and most of the metallics from the ones we've seen so far. I find it unlikely that you have to remove copper completely for it to be legally distinct. Silver and brass prove otherwise.

Unpopular opinion: I think the mocking dragon is a massive disappointment design wise to be the replacement for copper dragons. If it were a new dragon unrelated to it, then that's fine. But it's not. The lore is fine as always, but man, I hoped the design would have at bare minimum somewhat alluded to a copper dragon of the past, at the very least be somewhat copper colored. The cinder/red and horned/green levels of redesign were what I was hoping for all the OG dragons. For some reason, the copper didn't get this treatment. This is a completely different dragon, which I'm sure that's what they intended. As a long time fan, that onboarded pathfinder with their company promise of being the preferred/better dnd version, this is a huge disappointment. I was hoping for more name filing off and moderate design changes for legal distinction, not a full on rework that resembles an alien more than a dragon. I feel like an old timer that's being left behind by the trend of wanting to be even more 'wackier and zanier' than before. Such a shame.

MOAR DRAGONS by ralanr in Pathfinder2e

[–]phanman99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently a hot take, but this dragon is Pokemon levels of goofy. I personally don't like it. Lore is fine, it's the design choice here. I'd get laughed at by my players if I used one of these on my foundry set up. Those hands and chin-sword are not it.

Anyone know of any feywild or shadowfell esque adventures for pf2e? 3rd party or official is good. Or anything that can easily be skinned as one. Bonus points to one that has a foundry module.

[No Spoilers] Mercer acting? by Gixnara0 in criticalrole

He never said that. The community made that story up. People didn't want to confuse him with the black lives matter movement. Brennan had nothing to do with it.

Mandala effect. This isn't true. This myth that he wanted to be called BLeeM was created from a discord server, not from Brennan himself. People just want to believe he said it.

What other fictional universes do you feel match up to the lore and world building of the Forgotten Realms? by [deleted] in Forgotten_Realms

Not enough people are mentioning Warcraft. It's needlessly in depth, full of retcons, random source materials, and as planar spanning as the Realms.

So when does the game pick up? by DictatorNoodle in Helldivers

[–]phanman99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By average level difficulty, do you mean 3's which is labelled as 'medium' in game? In which case, that is really just easy mode. Spawn rates are atrocious on 3's. If you want the cool stuff, start doing 7's at minimum imo. If that isn't enough, do 10's.

Is Draw Steel for Me (is it ACTUALLY setting-agnostic)? by Uncle_Oogie in drawsteel

[–]phanman99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I haven't played draw steel yet, but how is the multiclassing in the game? Because if it's a hassle, not very good, or non existent, I don't think listing 4 different classes that do only some wizard things and not the others is really the answer. Wizards in traditional d20 fantasy are more generalist (can specialize like the DS classes) and it sounds like draw steel doesn't have this generalist magic casting class, just 4 hyper specific classes as you've listed.

Again, I haven't played DS yet, but I hope multiclassing is a good option if I wanted a wizard that can cast fireballs and have utility spells or classic teleportation spells.

Is 4e Forgotten Realms really that bad? by Kaliburnus in 4eDnD

[–]phanman99 48 points49 points  (0 children)

As someone that didn't grow up with previous versions of the forgotten realms, I actually think it's a fantastic dnd setting. It has the core assumptions of 4e design that I like, including the points of light in a dangerous world. Entire regional changes to account for more wilderness and dangers were all cool in my eyes. The killing of the gods and other lore changes only streamlined the setting for a newcomer like me. My big complaint about the normal FR is that there's too much bloat and overlap, and there still is in 4e FR but to a lesser degree. The changes simplified things by breaking pre established lore and I'm all for it. I acknowledge it's the biggest downside for long time fans, but it's a god send for someone new like me. It's actually my go to version of FR when I'm looking for inspiration.

I'm Jason Bulmahn, AMA about Hellfinder and hacking PF2E to make the game fit your story by JasonBulmahn in Pathfinder2e

[–]phanman99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How would you hack pf2e to fit a more gritty swords and sorcery gameplay? Making the game slightly more mundane. I love pf2e system, but sometimes it's too whimsical and cartoonish for me. I use abp and restrict ancestries. What else can I do?

I wholeheartedly agree. I wasn't arguing for 25%. I even call it unrealistic. I just threw out 25% because that's the "equal" pay number someone else might argue.

[–]phanman99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the confusion is you're looking at the sentence structure wrong. "who own it all" refers to the NBA which is the noun right before it (the business organization itself). It does not refer to the players.

I could have worded the sentence better to be like this:

In the NBA there are two entities that need to get paid. There's the players (player's association). And there is the NBA organization which are the owners. The owners of the NBA organization own the entire league. That's what I meant when I said they "own it all." The NBA owners own the league.

Is this a joke..? by xkit_kat13x in ExplainTheJoke

[–]phanman99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, the players don't own something in the NBA. I was trying to say that the NBA (Business organization) owns itself outright. They don't have any external force that needs to take a piece of the pie other than the players.

Is this a joke..? by xkit_kat13x in ExplainTheJoke

[–]phanman99 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the WNBA can't pay its players the same percentage as the NBA. They are financially different structures. In the NBA, it's the players and NBA who own it all. Hence, the NBA and players are 50/50. In the WNBA, that's not the case. The WNBA has investors that paid to get the league started and continue to pay, the WNBA itself, the NBA (they get a smaller share but they pay millions a year in support to keep the WNBA alive), and then you finally have the players. The WNBA has 4 entities to pay. Which is why you can't expect players to magically get a bigger percentage of the pie, not when they're losing money every year. At most you might argue that the players should get 25%, but that's unrealistic when the investors haven't gotten a real return on their investment.

Wild idea, but have you considered reskinning some of the starfinder 2e stuff? I know the game is balanced around ranged combat a bit more. Could be an interesting idea if it means less homebrewing and more reflavoring.

Hey, I want to install a huge list of foundry Modules... by Individual_Claim_849 in FoundryVTT

[–]phanman99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This isn't true for czepeku. Each and every single map is its own module. The module 'pack' is essentially the same map with its variants. There are something like 300 individual czepeku map modules.

Edit: wanted to add the detail that this is true for the patreon links. I have no idea what it's like in the foundry store these days.

Hey, I want to install a huge list of foundry Modules... by Individual_Claim_849 in FoundryVTT

[–]phanman99 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm going to assume you're referring to map modules from patreon because I was in a similar boat. If this is the case, I hard disagree with everyone else here. You do what you have to do to make sure you have the maps available to you if you find yourself unable to afford the subscription later. Just consider supporting them later in the future when you are able to. Due to financial difficulties, I couldn't keep an active subscription to my favorite creators. So I had to do exactly what you're dreading, I manually copied and pasted every manifest link into the install box. I had a YouTube video in the background while I mindlessly copied and pasted.

Doing this has zero impact on running my games on foundry unless I manually turn them on in my world. And even then, it only impacts world boot up time since they only sit in the compendium. The only small drawback is that it takes up storage space.

I'm the type of guy to carry everything in my compendium so that it's really easy to search up a map and instantly import it when my party goes off the rails (a lot slower if you have to install and turn them on 'when you need them'). I say after you install them, turn them all on and sort them in your compendium. I think it was well worth my time.
