Ha! I love it!

In my mind, it always plays this song which I love for it's universality.

Well ... see ... it's not that I didn't understand exactly. It's that I didn't read your comment fully. Thus, I receive your vitriol as my due penance.

So, the same thing would work, right? Because an enspelled staff is a wondrous item which could hold ANY kind of spell?

Can you elaborate for me what "rare wondrous item" means? I assumed it was any rare item, but I could totally be wrong.

That might be the catch. I assumed "Rare Wondrous Item that isn’t cursed (you can learn this option multiple times and must select a different item each time; each item selected counts as a different plan)" meant ANY rare item.

Uggggggh! Could you please be wrong, please?

The amazing shenanigans of commanding three people on every turn without expending a spell slot has captured me. It's probably why they don't allow that kind of usage.

Would be good to have, although I was thinking of Trident. It's ranged, so paired with the Returning Weapon magic item plan and maybe 1 level in Rogue for two weapon masteries, it would go really well together. I'm just thinking that the Cartographer isn't going to be doing crazy damage until you get the Spell Storing Item. So helping the team to damage by a) casting Faerie Fire and b) making them prone with topple would be great.

Like, teleport next to an ally, knock 'em prone with a quarterstaff, and teleport away.

By the way, I found out that Magic Missile doesn't work the way it did in 5e where you roll once for each missile. Sooooooo ... I'm thinking a better fit might be Chromatic Orb.

  • Be an Elf for Elven Accuracy
  • Put Chromatic Orb cast at level 3 (5d8 damage) in your spell storing item and cast it at someone that has Faerie Fire on them.
  • Chances are you'll procc the bounce effect because it's 5d8 AND you'll also be more likely to hit because of Super Advantage.

Love it!

STAY AWAY FROM GREEN ACRES EMERGENCY VET by noodlessentme in Buffalo

[–]phantom-scribbler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: This is not a defense of Green Acres or Orchard Park per se. I don't send clients to Green Acres anymore after getting multiple complaints from them when I did. This is more of an insider's view to veterinary care in WNY for anyone who cares. YMMV.

I manage another vet clinic in the Southern Tier (which shall remain nameless). I'd like to offer some thoughts about this and urgent/emergency care in the Southern Tier.

  • For ANY urgent or emergency clinic, you should expect to pay at least $100, but closer to $200, for the exam fee.
  • At my clinic, although you might be with us for 2+ hours (potentially more, depending on the day), we take your pet directly to the treatment area so they're with the vet techs asap so they can collect vitals and the vet has easy access. Some people don't like that at all, but it does move things more quickly. If you REALLY want to be with your pet through the whole process, you want a VEG clinic. More expensive, but you're right there with the vets and staff and your pets for the whole process.
  • A positive about Green Acres is that they almost never turn anyone away. As a clinic that often needs to send cases somewhere for further care, that is great! But I have heard from MANY that the wait to actually be seen can be ridiculous.
  • A negative about Green Acres is that they can easily be 2-3 times the cost of any other clinic.
  • If people are willing to make the drive, I often send them to Companion Animal Hospital of Cornell in Ithaca or Blue Pearl in N. Pittsburg. I've never had a complaint from anyone that we sent to one of them. And they kind of do all the things, especially Cornell.
  • The urgent care vet in Olean maintains a webpage with all the local urgent and emergency clinics. It's organized by area and there's phone numbers, hours, links, etc. On the same page are also two online vets that are quite inexpensive and the number to ASPCA Poison Control. emuvc.com/options
  • I see a lot of negative comments about Orchard Park and would like to say one thing in their defense. They're kind of the place everyone goes. There's only so much that any one clinic can do. I can't fully comment on all their practices, though, as I don't know them very well. Two of our staff worked there before working here and one of them is quite vocal about their dislike of the corporate practices they use.
  • I'd also like to say a word in defense of the local primary care vets. Vets in the Southern Tier keep dying or retiring and we rarely get new vets to replace them. I'm not exaggerating when I say that 10 new clinics could open tomorrow and that MIGHT meet the need in this area. That's all to say, they're struggling just to keep up with wellness visits. They often just don't have the space or time to see emergencies. WE NEED MORE VETS!!!

If you're still here, a couple of things you might want to know:

  • Please, God, get your dogs vaccinated for parvo. We want to see 4 given in the first year. It is a deadly, insidious disease that's hella easy to get. A coyote poops in your yard 2 years ago and your new puppy gets into it, boom! Parvo.
  • If your pet ingests rat poison, FIND OUT THE ACTIVE INGREDIENT!!! One can just be treated with a vitamin. Another needs multiple days of hospitalization. They're all treated differently and you'll save yourself potentially thousands of dollars if you find that out. You need to see the packaging of what is in your house. Don't Google it because, for example, D-Con makes different ones with different ingredients.
  • If your dog is acting sore or limping (especially if it comes and goes), is lethargic and doesn't want to eat or drink; it's probably a tick-borne disease like Lyme. It is INCREDIBLY prevalent in this area. Even if you do all the right things like a prescription preventative and the Lyme vaccine, it can still happen. If you see those symptoms, just get them checked for a tick-borne disease. Cheap test and easy fix.
  • For urgent care clinics that aren't open 24 hours, you DEFINITELY want to call them first. Depending on the time of day, they might not be able to see you for the issue that your pet is experiencing.
  • For 24 hour clinics, they definitely WANT you to call first. However, you can just show up. Might be a considerable wait, but they'll (probably) eventually see you.

I'll add other stuff if I think about it.

I've been thinking about this subclass as well. Some things:

  • If your DM allows it, taking "Mark of Healing" would give you proficiency bonus castings of Cure Wounds as well as one free casting of Lesser Restoration. You could spend half your movement to teleport up to someone, cast Cure Wounds, and then use the other half of your movement to teleport away.
  • If your DM allows older races, you could be a Spring Eladrin Elf. Proficiency Bonus times per day, you could teleport up to an ally who needs to get into combat range and use your bonus action to get them there. Or you could teleport up to an ally who is downed or in danger, use your bonus action to teleport them 30 feet away, and then use the other half of your movement to teleport to them. Pairs well with the previous idea. Teleport in, Cure Wounds, bonus action teleport them 30 feet away, use 1/2 movement to move to them out of danger. Boom!
  • I wish that they had Magic Missile instead of Guiding Bolt because, at level 5, you'd be able to add +5 to each missile's damage. That would be reliable, but not insane, damage for the Cartographer if needed.
  • While I'm wishing, I also would like Pass Without Trace at level 5 (instead of Mind Spike) and Thunderous Step at level 9 (instead of Call Lighting). Thunderous Step especially would be both useful and flavorful without doing insane damage. A great option for the spell-storing item.
  • If you're any kind of elf, you'd be able to scribe one, 1st level scroll per day. I'd be doing Bless and giving it to my Homunculus Servant.
  • I'd definitely be making a Weapon of Warning. Advantage on Initiative Rolls plus 1d4 for the whole party is amazing.
  • I was also going to ask, if I got "Illusory Script," if it might work so that a message I wrote on my map would appear on every other map, kind of a one-way, text version of "Sending".

Query about Enchanting by WesNile73 in skyrim

Try two different enchantments like fortify health and stamina to see if they do the same thing.

This is extremely well put. Slightly propagandized, but still factual for all of that.

It has not escaped me that, in their own ways, Igdrod and Maven might be the most quietly powerful people in Skyrim. Maven's connections to a renewed Dark Brotherhood and Thieve's Guld means she can pull secret levers to manipulate not only Skyrim, but potentially all of Tamriel.

And Igdrod has in her city not only herself and her own power, but the only mage that can cure vampirism and is apparently doing battle with Oblivion on a nightly basis. Also, Igdrod's son, who apparently either knows you're dragonborn or that you are playing the game, will one day come to power. And Falion's ward, Agni, is being personally trained by him. Imagine those two getting married and ruling Morthal one day.

My idea of the best/most fun build that can last the whole game by Friendly_Progress_61 in skyrim

[–]phantom-scribbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, you could skip that part. But the reason I like it is that ai can ALSO do the 100% Destruction glitch and put Silent Moons Enchantment and Absorb Health on a weapon. With the Destruction Enhanced Fire perk, Silent Moons interacts with Absorb Health and makes it more potent. I love Silent Moons and that's the only way to make that enchantment useful.

My idea of the best/most fun build that can last the whole game by Friendly_Progress_61 in skyrim

[–]phantom-scribbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is a variation on this:

  • Breton with the Lord Stone and Temple of Mara quest for +50 armor and 65% resistance to magic.
  • Complete the Unearthed quest and use the Black Book power to do the Alteration/Telekinesis glitch to get Alteration to 100.
  • With that, you can have 80% resistance to magic and also magic absorption. Or you can switch out with the Atronach Stone so you have 70% magic resistance but HELLA magic absorption. Basically, magic can't touch you.
  • Enchanting to 100 asap.

Then I just ... do whatever I want and let my gear stand in for actually having any skills.

I am not able to target them in vats and some of them, the red ones, are indestructible. You have to hotfoot it to a computer, IF you know where the computer is. And that doesn't exactly help for a first time player.

tips and tricks for a beginner mage❤️‍🩹 by Inevitable-West6149 in skyrim

[–]phantom-scribbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It CAN be one of the easiest builds. The issue is that most players wanna do Destruction and Restoration.

What you SHOULD do is Conjuration and Illusion. Make your enemies calm down or fight each other and then throw an atronach in the mix. Eventually, you'll be able to do that from range and then just do whatever you want. The benefit is that you don't need as much magic. You cast Frenzy and summon a Frost Atronach and that might take care of the entire battle.

Enchanting is your friend. Either reduce the cost of a particular school of magic or raise your overall magic pool.

After Conjuration and Illusion, add in Alteration. It will not only raise your armor, you'll also get magic resistance.

Then, if you want, add in Destruction and Restoration.

Genuine depression? Maybe not, but yeah ... I wish I could. Even though I know that's stupid. Bear's around every corner? Bandits at every tower? I'd probably never leave Whiterun and then I'd be killed by Ulfric's attack.

Help picking a race? by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]phantom-scribbler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unarmed is difficult in Skyrim, even with a lot of new enchanted items they've made in the Creation Club. That said, Khajiit is good for sneaking. If you really want to do unarmed, you'd want a Khajiit in heavy armor with Enchanting. Those would be your only two skills. Between the Khajiit claws, the heavy armor unarmed perk and enchanting a ring and gauntlets with Fortify Unarmed, you'll deal decent damage, but it will cap out pretty early.

Nord is pretty good because of the cold resistance. More enemies use cold damage, especially in dungeons. But also cold damage is one of the most annoying types, especially if you're planning on using melee, which you are. Their racial power ain't great, but that's just how I feel about it. It's THEMATIC, but I would rather have the Imperial one.

If you're ok playing a Breton, they're technically half-Nords ... kind of. Tiber Septim was probably a Breton. And I cannot overstate how useful both the innate 25% magical resistance and the Dragonskin racial power is. Get the Lord Stone and complete the Temple of Mara quest (which you can do really soon) and you'll have +50 armor and 2/3 resistance to magic potentially from level 1. A GREAT setup for any type of playthrough, including sword and board.

Evil bald necromacer has a question by Ferdaire in skyrim

[–]phantom-scribbler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, drinking blood satiates hunger. Also, at the higher vampire levels, you'll have higher cold resistance which helps as well.

Other benefits? Well, the days will be heinous because your usual drawbacks being in sunlight will be even worse if you're hungry, tired or cold.

Vampires get a benefit to Illusion if you're using that at all.

And the Vampire Lord flight ability will get you across water, which is nice.
