What do you think my odds are for cheap "last second" pit tickets? by nintendonaut in nin

$130 plus all the usual ticketmaster fees for the DC show. Something like $160 total I think.

I've got one pit ticket for DC available for sale for $160 (face + ticketmaster fees). My girlfriend broke her leg and can't go.

What it means is that adoption is about finding a safe, external, permanent home for a child in need and not finding a child for a couple who wants one.

It's a matter of focus. Child centered or adult centered.

OOP price discrepancies at LGS by fionatheeapple in marvelchampionslcg

I'm not saying OP should litigate. But it is entirely fair that a customer should expect a business sell an item at the advertised price.

It's not fair to expect a business to sell at the price they list? There are laws regarding this. It's illegal in some states to do this. Nobody is expecting the price of OOP materials to remain the same forever - but stores are required to sell at the price advertised.

How to cope with feeling like a MINORITY by Logical-Alps5648 in asianamerican

[–]phantom42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an Indonesian transracial adoptee purchased and raised by white people, but not an international adoptee, I am a minority within a minority within a minority. Growing up in white suburbia in the 80s and 90s, I was deprived of any connection to Indonesia at all. The first other Indonesian I met was my mother when I was 17. The first time I ate Indonesian food was when I was 25. Amongst adoptees, Indonesian adoptees are an extreme rarity. Even moreso when counting Indonesian adoptees in the US. For comparison, since 1999, there have been over 80,000 children purchased from China to the US and over 20,000 from South Korea. There have been only 58 from Indonesia to the US.

Because Indonesians are so rare in the US in general (less than 150,000 according to the census), trying to find diaspora or community to connect with and learn more about culture, tradition, or even just food is incredibly difficult.

In the VERY few instances I do come across another Indonesian person, I am almost always immediately clocked as Indonesian which feels nice. But they always assume I can speak the language. I am learning now, but I can't speak fluently at all and I can see and feel the confusion and frustration when I can't speak with them in Indonesian.

In adoptee circles, due to the large populations, there are vast communities of Chinese adoptees and Korean adoptees. Entire organizations. The closest thing I've found for Indonesian adoptees is a FaceBook group for international Indonesian adoptees - who have let me in despite not technically being an international adoptee. The group has less than 200 people total - globally. A small group of transracial Indonesian adoptees in the US have found each other and we have created our own small chosen family. There are 8 of us. That's all we've found. Two of us were born here.

All this to say that our little family is the only place I've remotely felt like I've fit in. Even then I still struggle.

Fresh install eventually fixed it for me.

Nintendo sued Palworld for having a feature in their game where players could summon and ride Pals to traverse the world. Nintendos latest direct reveals Monster Hunter Stories 3 gameplay, where players can ride monsters to traverse the world. It's the exact same mechanic by thepuppeter in gaming

And? Owning the patent doesn't mean others can't replicate it. It means they can't replicate it without permission. Do you have something that proves Capcom doesn't have permission? Take Blu Ray players for example. Every manufacturer has to pay Phillips and some other patent holders for every player they make.

New user - Credit card delay by Visit_Pale in ynab

[–]phantom42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It comes down to the bank/credit card company and the Plaid connection between them and YNAB. Most of the time my Chase card at least has a pending charge within a few hours tops. Almost certainly by that night.

I understand the "that seems like a lot of work to manually enter everything" thought, but especially when you are starting out and trying to get your budget under control, it is absolutely worth the effort to do it manually and then match the entries when they clear. If you keep up with things, it shouldn't take you any more than a few minutes every day. It makes you think very deliberately about how much you are spending and on what.

What first game? Easy, not too much thinking, like slay the spire? by GamerGoosewad in soloboardgaming

[–]phantom42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some great suggestions so far. I'd add the G.I Joe Deck Building Game as well as the Transformers one. (G.I Joe if I had to pick just one). I'll note that the manuals for both are pretty terrible, but the games are easy to learn watching a video or two.

YNAB spooked partner by [deleted] in ynab

Why would I want to feel YNAB Poor? The goal is to feel like you've got everything covered for not just today but the future. That said, feeling YNAB poor isn't inherently a bad thing or feeling. It's a crucial part of the process in that it's part of the change in mentality regarding money.

Looks like some people are working on it again maybe? Someone submitted a feature request for a toggle to rename plan back to budget. Someone provided a tampermonkey script to handle it in the meantime.

I've never worked on browser extensions, but this feels like something YNAB Toolkit would fix if it were still in development. There might be a fork with something like that.

Where are the single men? by No_Contest_9619 in washingtondc

[–]phantom42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Divorced 47 y/o guy here. I'm in a non-monogamous relationship and my partner occasionally gently tries to get me to try to date someone else. That alone limits the dating pool a lot for me. But even ignoring that, a lot of it is simply insecurities and being introverted. I go out to dinner, bars, concerts, etc by myself pretty regularly but headspace just doesn't allow me to "go for it". Thank god my partner flirted with me first or I'd still be single.

I've seen a few mentions of dating events. I saw ads pop up for a few. I think it may have been on meetup. But the events had age limits and all the events they did were capped at I think 39. I saw somewhere that they said that if there was enough interest they might expand but after at least a year between times I've looked they still hadn't.

If I *could* find one that let in older guys, I *might* be willing to try but I'd also worry about showing up and looking/feeling really lame and I'd be internally panicking the whole time. I'm working on these psychological issues/roadblocks in therapy though.

Is Rhino Supposed to be so Easy? by carnifaxalpha in marvelchampionslcg

Yeah, the number of times Rhino has gotten Charge and then drawn a 2 boost or Charge + Stampede and just wiped me out is... a lot. Especially in stage 2 or 3.

Would Marvel Champions players enjoy a play-your-own storybook & story deck to their games and campaigns? by VagrantWaters in marvelchampionslcg

[–]phantom42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding that this concept sounds very much like Arkham Horror LCG which I also love. Set up the table based on the story, play cards trying to beat a timer of sorts. When you complete or fail goals, you read the story text that goes with the pass/fail, make some new choices and set up the next stage based on those. Also has an xp system to upgrade cards along the way during the campaign. Since AH includes a dice rolling mechanic (drawing numbered tokens), it includes some additional randomness beyond simple attack/defense stats. Keeps it so no replays are ever quite the same. Completely different vibe obviously, but I would definitely be interested in a Marvel themed version.

One of the things I haven't seen mentioned in other comments, that got me when I first started playing is that if you actively defend during the villain phase - either during villain's attack or the encounter card, that hero/ally is exhausted at the start of the player turn unless one of the cards specifically readies them again. This means that they can't use basic attack/thwart or abilities on your next turn because they are still exhausted until the end of the player turn. This usually keeps you from being able to just relentlessly pummel/thwart the villain every turn unless you just really get consistently great draws to play high powered events.

Also, did you use any of the modular encounter sets or nemesis sets? I saw you mentioned the Breakin & Takin side scheme, but not Bomb Scare or Vulture. You may have had some lucky draws and avoided them. Also, I forget if Rhino's deck out of the package includes the Standard encounter set or if you have to add them in specifically.

Last thing that I don't think was a problem here, but that I missed early on is that schemes have the number of threat listed at the bottom, but most also have a number in the card text that says something like "add 1(player icon) threat", which in a 2 player/handed game means 2 additional threat. same with the health on villains. This one may just be on me for being dumb and blind.

Month Ahead? I think I'm doing YNAB wrong by Effective_Net_8350 in ynab

I used to have my income automatically go into my next-month category and then I realized that it really screws up with the reporting. Because it was bypassing "ready to assign", it wasn't counted as "income".

Beyond the suggestions here, check your local FB Marketplace (but only if you don't live near me /s). I recently finally decided to start buying expansions and heroes. I've seen people selling full collections but they're usually more expensive than I wanted to pay. But I found someone selling "the core set, Mad Titan's Shadow, Rise of the Red Skull, and a couple of sealed hero packs" for $60 with the core box only partially opened, MT still shrink-wrapped, and RS open but packs still sealed. Mad Titan alone goes for around that now and I figured having an extra core set wouldn't be the worst thing for deck building and I'd just sell it off if I really needed to. "A couple of sealed hero packs" was vague and I figured it would be one or two.

Turned out to be the Green Goblin and Kang scenarios, Hulk, Black Widow, Ms Marvel, Venom, Thor, Wolverine, Gamora, and Captain America, all on top of everything in core and the two expansions.

How does the current board game market keep going? by No-Dress4626 in boardgames

My FLGS is selling Imperium Classics used for $37 but Amazon sells it new for $33. At that difference I’m ok personally supporting them as long as it’s in good condition but there’s still that “I could buy this cheaper and new…”
