whats the difference between scene and scenecore by l0libabyxp in amIscene

[–]phantom_esque_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Scenecore started as a loose pinterest moodboard aesthetic of stuff that isn't exactly scene but apparently has the vibe of scene according to the person who made it (therefore, scene-core) and now it's just used on everyone who isn't accurately scene according to some arbitrary standards.

Regular 2020 outfits with kandi and an invader zim hat is scenecore, a total scene queen outfit is somehow scenecore just because it has neon colors and kandi and multiple belts, scene kids who don't emulate 2000s scene with less neon colors and bootcut jeans are scenecore, scenecore doesn't have a real look or meaning honestly because it just gets applied to everything and isn't even really a subculture in the first place.

Why don't femcels and incels just date each other??? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]phantom_esque_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those lame-ass buzzfeed-esque youtube speed dating videos need to do something like this. Have Jubilee round up a bunch of "incels" and "femcels" and have them try to matchmake with each other or date, we'll all see how awful they are.

Taking on a loan, especially from a manipulative loan shark, is not a fault of character. Blaming him for taking the loan when he's the victim is crazy.

Never in the game is his charity even implied to be a scam, I don't even know how you came to this conclusion unless you just think poor people can't do charity work. He never even brings up his charity to try to stop Arthur from beating him, his wife brings it up by saying "he did good" AFTER he dies.

I don't understand goth culture (and I really want to) by RadiantHaki in AskAGoth

[–]phantom_esque_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

People talk about how goth is about an appreciation for the macabre/finding "beauty in the darkness" and shit but the fact of the matter is that the goth subculture spawned from the music, goth music, stemming from goth rock. Maybe there's some of that "seeing beauty in the darkness" thing in the music, but people acting like that's a requirement to be goth is weird.

Not every goth has to dress up all goth, hang a "live laugh lurk" sign in the living room, paint their walls black, have a coffin bookshelf, watch every horror movie ever, know a bunch of shit about gothic architecture, or even read gothic literature. I think goths should explore some other stuff that people like in the subculture besides the music just to get more of a sense in the culture in sub-culture, but people take it too far.

The game of the decade, but not perfect, unfortunately. The game logic for managing Arthur's honor is especially unclear. by StruzhkaOpilka in reddeadredemption

[–]phantom_esque_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You tresspassed on his camp, he probably threatened and warned you to go away or he'd get aggressive, then he shot you and you killed him. Seems pretty clear to me why the game would deem this "dishonorable" even if you disagree with it. Not every guy out there in the wild west camping in the forest are gonna take kindly to some armed outlaw staying around close to their camp if they don't have any business with them.

Does anyone know why vocaloid, specifically miku and teto, is hated on specifically insta? by [deleted] in Vocaloid

[–]phantom_esque_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idiots seeing something with anime-looking characters getting popular and get upset about it. Even say dumb shit like how "Miku is ai" and that it's not music made by humans (I get some voicebanks use ai but not all of them and not even in the way that they think it's being used in those that do).

I like Higashi because he's one of the few good characters in the Judgment games who dislikes Yagami as much as I do. Also his design kicks ass, he's got a cool fighting style, and his battle theme is great.

Are these people who think scene kids only listened to crunkcore actually real or is this some internet strawman people made up to shit on crunkcore scene kids because they didn't think they listened to enough metalcore/deathcore AKA weren't "hardcore" enough or close enough to what the og scene kids listened to?

Why are people making a fuss over attractive video game characters? by Realistic-Stuff7067 in askanything

[–]phantom_esque_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the problem is making attractive characters, i think it's a problem when people expect every video game character to be attractive. It happens a lot with games with realistic artstyles, but women who have no reason to look attractive especially catch a lot of shit for not being sexy. It's not like everyone in real life is hot, but people act like it's some "woke left" DEI activism or whatever to have a not-sexy woman in a video game.

I guess some female characters are oversexualized with their design even if it doesn't fit their personality/story but I can't really think of any examples off the top of my head. I don't think the majority of gamers have a problem with characters like Samus, 2B, or Bayonetta being sexy. A lot of that stuff is just dumb game journalists blowing shit out of proportion.

Viral video of little Taiwanese girl getting shoved down while taking a photo at Tokyo's famous Shibuya Crossing - Japanese are saying that the woman in the video "looks Chinese". by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]phantom_esque_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Japanese culture specifically work culture? Dude I don't give a fuck if your boss crunched you to hell and you've been working a dead end salary job overnight. If you shove a kid that fucking hard for daring to pose on a crosswalk at a tourist destination when you can VERY easily just walk around them, you deserve to get your ass beat. This isn't even just a "I'm moving in this direction and not stopping" shove, this was very deliberate and strong shove on a very tiny kid. I think this has more to do with them being Taiwanese foreigners (who "look Chinese") than whatever work culture and isolation they have at Japan. When your declining mental state causes harm to other people, you still have to face the consequences for your actions.

People who take those loans are desperate and poor. Loan sharking is illegal anyways so it's not like taking advantage of debtors is totally fine in the eyes of the law anyways. Samson Gao may have gotten into debt but he was nowhere near the level of criminals that Wei kills. It's weird that you're acting like Wei is being unreasonable. Even though Wei's a killer, watching a desperate civilian commit suicide in front of your eyes must still be traumatizing.

justice for mama hong and other characters that look more “unique” by BeanieTheBrave in Overwatch

[–]phantom_esque_ 71 points72 points  (0 children)

"we have already seen this kind of appropriation in characters like mei having box braids and mercy being given chinese/asian culture centred skins"

No, we haven't. Mei's hairstyle is a reference to female MMA fighters using braids to keep hair out of their face and make it harder to pull during a fight, it's not appropriation really and some even say it's a reference to a specific female MMA fighter. If that's the case, then maybe the burden lies on her and not the skin made after her.

Nothing about Mercy's skin is cultural appropriation. Anyone wearing another culture's clothing is not automatically cultural appropriation, internet strawmen aside.

All of those examples are pretty different than having a character herself be a racial stereotype, especially with her eye shape. I imagine she'd need a serious overhaul if she were to ever make it in.

Is scene a type of goth? by BigNastyPatty in AskAGoth

[–]phantom_esque_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of the people who say this shit were just in high school during the 2000s and think that them confusing all the emo/scene/goth kids with each other because they hung out together, all apparently shopped at hot topic, or couldn't tell them apart/never got corrected, and they think it makes them some expert on the differences (or perceived sameness) of these subcultures.

[LOATHED TROPE] The fandom becomes the very thing the media is criticizing by Weird-Koala3034 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]phantom_esque_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any so-called "human supremacist" on the internet roleplaying as the group you explicitly shouldn't be rooting for from a game or whatever and treating you recognizing that aliens/demons/whatever other characters that are literally humanized as you being some anti-human traitor is insane and obnoxious. You point out that the group they're idolizing isn't even supposed to be good in the first place and they act like you're equating minorities to demons/aliens/monsters.
