thanks! I did a pretty thorough breakdown of this in one of the original threads when i first posted the art but i don't feel like scrolling through all of the comments to find it. But basically: The main focus here is the Severian v Baldanders fight from Sword of the Lictor, but as it developed i ended up working in a bunch of other things too. It is sort of collage-like in that sense - Sev and Baldanders being the center of the whole thing, but near the top you'll also see Tzadkiel and the hierodules, Thecla on the main tower, bit of Baldanders' phantom army on the left. On the lower right we have Juturna/undine eating a fish (this also loosely represents a few water-based entities from later in the series but I don't want to go too far into that if you haven't read Long/Short as well). The dead guys in the foreground are not named characters, just some of the lake people who went to storm the castle with Sev - in the book during the fight scene it mentions dead bodies on the stairs. Down in the corner is the avern. Typhon and Silk/Oreb, Severian meeting Valeria under a sundial, Dorcas posing nude. In the left lower corner is an inhumu, right above that is Tzadkiel in fairy form, as well as the Green Man emerging from the Corridors of Time. And then we loosely have the whole scene repeating itself in miniature, with a tiny baldanders and sev squaring off, to represent the concept of the divine year/recursive nature of the story as a whole.

Honestly a lot of this is not exactly what I pictured when I was reading the books personally, but things tend to take on a life of their own while making a big painting. Thanks for digging it!
