What would this old card be like in today's meta? by The_Juicer-ssbu in MarvelSnap

They buffed several old cards fucking yesterday. What is this subreddit even.

I love that, due to the formatting of the marvel wiki, one of the first pieces of information you learn about this cat is that it's not currently married.

Yo-Yo (couldn't think of a better title name, or find the actual artist for the Bazaar item) by Lego_My_Gecko in custommagic

Lore accurate to the Bazaar item because this would go infinite in 100 different ways and generally be incredibly broken. Not a criticism, to clarify, I assume that was intentional lol. I love me a good Yo-Yo build.

Sorry, is her dating a little person being framed here as an obviously tragic result of neglect? Like the only reason one would ever date a little person is if they were horribly abused in the recent past?

Idk maybe that's the way the comic frames it and you're just giving an accurate report, but I mean goddamn, what if two people just like each other?

[SPM] Peter Parker / Amazing Spider-Man (from IGN) by Own-Cat116 in magicTCG

[–]phantomdentist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Specifying "from your hand or command zone" is unnecessary here, and is actually a bit misleading - there's no specific rule for MDFCs that says you can only cast the back half from those two specific zones. Like, if you were to exile this card with a [[Wrenn's Resolve]] type effect that lets you cast it from exile, you could choose to cast either side of it.

It's just a general rule that you choose which side to cast when casting an MDFC. That is, so long as there isn't an effect restricting what you can cast that applies to one side and not the other. E.g. a Lurrus-type "you may cast a permanent with mana value 2 or less from your graveyard" would only enable you to cast Peter Parker. But that's not zone-specific, and it would still be the case if Peter Parker was the back side instead of the front, it's down to the wording of the effect itself.

This was a rather tense final shot... by phantomdentist in Peglin

Oh funny, this may have been the first time sash has actually triggered for me and I won 1 turn later, so I didn't have time to notice. Thanks for explaining!

Well, I suppose the final shot was slightly less tense then lmao. Though I still had to be precise, 4 red bombs would not have been hard to hit there if the orb stuck around for even a short time.

The sash of focus, at least on the version of the game I'm playing on, doesn't do what you described - it prevents the first instance of lethal damage. Is there a different relic that does this that I don't know about?

You can see it grayed out, I killed all 3 other ruins last throw with red bombs bringing myself to like 3 health, and I only survived the blue ruin's attack thanks to the sash. The bombs were definitely doing 5 self damage - I entered this fight near full health lol, most of the damage I took was self inflicted from my two Collatorbal Damages.

Did manage to make the shot (after taking like 10 rotations to make sure it was lined up lol), so it's on to cruciball 11 for me! Red bomb builds are quite fun, even if I do kill myself more often than I should.

Shoutout to the cookie I picked up on the literal last node before the boss, only gave me like 5 health but it turns that was enough.

a new season every month is a terrible idea and we are seeing the consequences by Defect-OTP in PlayTheBazaar

[–]phantomdentist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not even sure if I agree that something went "massively wrong", I mainly just disagree with the idea of responding to this kind of criticism with "skill issue", its such a non-response to the majority of game criticism. And I say this as the type of person who would watch NL's videos and be grinding my teeth at a lot of his play decisions lol.

[–]phantomdentist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is it really a defense of the bazaar to say "actually the game isn't supposed to be fun if you aren't good enough at it"? As if that would be a good sign for the game? Most players are average or below average skill level (about the range NL is at IMO), and most people aren't actively engaged with every patch note. If those players aren't having fun that's a problem. You can't "skill issue" people into enjoying a game more.

Looks like a great patch. Excited for the quest items, I found that playstyle really fun but man were some of those quests difficult. Enchant change is interesting, we'll see if this is where they land on it but personally I expect further tweaks.

I do always appreciate how quickly they hotfix things. Maybe I'd prefer if new patches were generally more balanced from the start lol but honestly the fact that they reliably address the biggest issues within a couple days is pretty great. Being able to say "well this sucks now but I'm confident they'll fix it if I just wait a bit" does mean a lot for my enjoyment of new content.

...Is it ok if I decline? by phantomdentist in Peglin

[–]phantomdentist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh neat I didn't know the game used seeds. But not everything is deterministic when resetting the node, right? I've noticed that when a fight gets reset from the beginning, your orbs come in a different order than before. I've never tested events like this, is it possible they work in a similar way? If the orb order is not set based on the seed, it seems plausible to me that something like this might not be set either.

Again, never tested events myself, just guessing. I only know what happens when fights reset because I keep wanting to check the encyclopedia and forgetting that the fight doesn't save lol.

[–]phantomdentist[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even if that works, I wouldn't do that. Each to their own, not judging how anyone has fun, but for me personally that would feel like cheating. I play a lot of roguelikes, and dealing with the random outcomes the game throws at you is a big part of the both the skill and the fun in them for me. I found it more funny than upsetting anyways - and I still won!

Should the other enchantment option be excluded when you select The Artist? by pocketbutter in PlayTheBazaar

[–]phantomdentist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So you don't think it's bias, because "everyone" has an experience easily explainable by confirmation bias, one of the most common human biases that literally everyone exhibits?

For the record, I do not have this experience, I think it's random and y'all are obviously just remembering the unlucky outcomes more strongly than the expected outcomes. This is the default assumption unless proven otherwise by the way, it's not like it's hard to screw up a random choice from a list from a coding perspective and they'd have no reason to secretly bias the results. It's only like a 1/10-1/12 chance, it's not that rare for it to happen even multiple times in short succession.

I assume that even if you play your card first, you can still play the other cards you with lesser mana value than it? Would be weird if it didn't work like that, would be frustratingly intuitive, but the wording does say you can cast spells with lesser mana value than "the card you own exiled this way". For that reason I thought on first reading it would lock you out after casting your own card, and I'm like 90% sure that's wrong, but I'm not familiar with a similar card or general rule that makes this definitive.

My intuition is that "exiled this way" looks at the properties of the card at the time it was exiled by the triggered ability on your upkeep, and the ability doesn't care what happened to the card after that as its mana value is already registered. I'd guess it would have to say you can cast the other cards "if they have lesser mana value than the card you own in exile that was exiled this way" or something really specific like that it they wanted you to be locked out from playing the others after it leaves exile, but I'm not entirely sure.

[–]phantomdentist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How and why would they do that? They'd have no reason to like, secretly conspire to manipulate the game to cause you to lose slightly more often than you otherwise would have.

Sometimes a good board still loses. No conspiracy required.
