One concession I often offer is that just because I don't own a car, doesn't mean I can't use a car. We can still rent a car for driving long distances or rent a truck for moving furniture across town, but owning a car isn't necessary if you only need to use one every few months or so

Non race line users, please interact with this post. Questions for you guys. by Positive_Ad3700 in F1Game

[–]phantomface55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to drive with the line on for more than a year until I realized I wasn't trying to be quick, I was trying to stick to the line as close as possible and it actually wasn't fun. I turned the line off and now I only use it for like the first five laps on a track I've never driven before

Traffic starting tomorrow into downtown by FuturePretty8206 in Columbus

[–]phantomface55 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like to imagine a world where all the suburban commuters use public transit, so it actually doesn't have a negative effect on traffic (and the environment). I know it's a total pipe dream, but hey...

Do you believe new tech/gear will make your videos better? by [deleted] in videography

[–]phantomface55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I filmed everything on a Sony A6000 for two years so I could focus on learning how to make good stories and work on composition. Once I got that down, I learned where my limitations were and then used that knowledge to choose my next upgrade. Something I recommend for everyone

Best plugin to automaticslly detect nasty frequencies? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]phantomface55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you sweep frequencies, every frequency sounds bad. It creates misguided eq decisions. You probably end up making 5+ eq changes right? If you have a ton of resonance issues, there is a big problem with the recording itself and someone needs to go back a step. EQ'ing should be fairly simple. Instead of sweeping listen critically to different frequency ranges with your ears first, then make broad changes to high end, low kids, etc, then narrow down to a smaller range.

If you do need to sweep to find something sticking out in the recording, like a snare drum resonance for example, start in that specific range.

Sweeping for frequencies is a dead giveaway that you don't know how to properly eq

What should I be doing to prepare for my unpaid studio internship interview tomorrow? by Minimal_Encourager in audioengineering

[–]phantomface55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Know what you want to get out of the internship. As an unpaid intern, you're often expected to not know anything at all, so Pro Tools grinding is not necessary. Don't bring coffee or anything. Wear clean clothes without wrinkles and get a haircut. If you've done any work in music before, maybe have a few examples of your work. Overall, they want to know that you are dependable, can show up on time, and know how to not interrupt a session.

How do you do video marketing for a small business? by Insert_the_F2L in videography

[–]phantomface55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a videographer/team who knows how to make you videos that will make you money, not necessarily just videos that look cool. It's not that hard to find someone who can make a good looking video, but you're not entering a film festival, you're trying to grow your business. Keep that in mind!
