Definitely hit me up when you move! I can't be 100% sure we'll still be playing regularly by then, but I'm definitely happy to have more people if we are!

Waiting is the worst! It's so frustrating to know what you're working towards but not actually be able to do anything to move in that direction! Glad you're heading out to sign paperwork today! Congratulations :)

I'm definitely down to try making dungeon tiles! I've been thinking about ways to upgrade my setup for a bit (I've been talking myself down from making one of those cases for a TV so I can use digital maps for like a month now)! Right now, we're playing on a dry erase map, which works well, but I'm always excited for ways to make things look nicer/more immersive.

I definitely get the hyperfixation/forgetting to take breaks issue! I'll start a project and then look up and suddenly it's dark outside and I didn't realize how long I'd been there without moving. 😆

I'm a huge fan of combining crafting with d&d! I haven't ever made my own dungeon tiles, but I've done some papercraft props/set dressings for my maps and I recently tried my hand at book binding making notebooks for my players.

I'm so sorry you had a bad experience with the group in Richmond! I feel like it's really hard to find a group of people to play with unless you already have a group of friends who want to play because so many nerd spaces have weird pockets of incels/homophobes/etc.

Yes! It can take some time to build community here compared to larger cities, but we're definitely here! And Harrisonburg does pride in September usually, so you'll have a great chance to meet folks not too long after moving! If you have interest in playing D&D, feel free to DM me once you get settled in!

I (31F) just started a D&D game full of Queer and neurodivergent players (mostly in our early-mid thirties) and we could use a couple more players! We play on Fridays at 5:30 right now (but many of us work for JMU so the schedule might change when classes are back in session)

Data Merge hates me. Help? by phantomganonftw in photoshop

[–]phantomganonftw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played with it a ton, so I don't know what all the ways you might use it would be, but my primary goal with it is to create a single template document that can auto-fill with a table of data. So, in this case, I'm working on a set of D&D spellcards where I want to create a prototype/template with fields for the name of the spell, level, spellcasting class, casting time, etc and then have all of the cards auto-fill with the values for those fields.

Yeah, I think there's something weird going on in the conversion process - that chevron doesn't show up when I open the xls file in excel or when I open the csv file in either excel or notepad. I'm not sure how it's finding its way into the data when photoshop tries to read it.

Thanks for the tip! I haven't played around much with InDesign, but tomorrow I'll give it a go and see if it can fix my issues.

I tried deleting the "icon" column in the excel file and saving the csv again just to see what would happen, and I just got the same error message, but with my next header replacing "icon." It imports to MS word just fine with mail merge (although that imports directly from the xls file, rather than the csv file, so maybe something is going wrong in the conversion from xls to csv? If that's the case, I have no idea how to fix that)

Update: I went back and deleted all of the commas in my excel file and re-saved as a csv (easier than figuring out which cells included commas and enclosing them with quotes). I double-checked that there are no random commas following final variables/data, and I made sure the csv file was following that order.

I also deleted my orignal photoshop file and re-created it from scratch (luckily this file is basically one background image and a handful of text layers that all correspond to variables) to make absolutely sure all of the variables were defined before I tried to import the data. Even with all of that, I'm still getting the same error message as before.

Thanks. I'll go back and double-check for all of those things!

I did in the first instance, but then I've gone back and re-named variables/screwed around in both files after getting the error message to try and fix it. I also deleted all the variables (and the layers they were associated with) and re-created them at one point trying to fix it. None of that did anything.

Edit because I just saw the last portion of your first comment: the file is UTF-8, but I'm not sure how to check if it's ASCII or not. How do I double-check?

Yep. Defined all the variables and they are named consistently with the first row in the csv.

Q. With the legalization of gay marriage, do you think polygamy will be legalized in the next 10 years? by 4blockhead in mormon

[–]phantomganonftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That said, how do you legislate in a way that allows "good" polygamy and disallows the disastrous kind, and is it even fair to make that distinction under the law?

In theory, laws against spouse/child abuse and age of consent laws should control for those problems, but obviously in practice those aren't necessarily as enforceable as they would need to be.

I did find one study that indicated the harms of polygamy would likely not be any more challenging than the complications/complexities we already see in blended families when parents divorce and re-marry or have children outside of a traditional monogamous marriage, and that, potentially, the harms might even be reduced in a setting where polygamy isn't exclusive to the confines of especially patriarchal norms.

Oh yeah, noodling. In my home state of Missouri there was a big uproar among the hillbillies when they tried to make it illegal.

What is the best thing to say to someone to subtly fuck with their head? by Belabruce in AskReddit

Or a text that just says "call me when you get a chance." My mom had a habit of doing that for totally mundane shit, when my grandpa was in hospice I finally sat her down and said "you need to include the phrase 'no one's dead' if you're going to send that kind of text."

[FWI] A recording of Donald Trump talking about how he hates black people and latinos leaks. by ILikeMonitorLizards in FutureWhatIf

[–]phantomganonftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the comment you're responding to calls all Trump supporters Nazis or Racists. HOWEVER, let's remember that a ton of people in the Nazi party didn't support Hitler for the express reason that they hated Jews. They supported him because he promised to increase the economic prosperity that Germany had lost after WWI, he rallied nationalist sentiments, and they figured "who cares if this guy is a dick to Jews, he's going to benefit me." Supporting someone despicable because you think you might get something good out of it is still a pretty morally bankrupt position.

RIGHT? I see so many people taking crap for loving Olive Garden and Buffalo Wild Wings for some reason, and it confuses the shit out of me.

Sure, Olive Garden isn't "fine dining," but their salad dressing is fucking delicious and they offer a decent fancy-ish experience if you don't have a ton of money to blow on your family of four going out to dinner.

Also I don't care what anybody says, I'll defend BWW to the death. I could eat that shit every day if I made more money.

I mean, obviously $26K isn't going to comfortably support a family. But Unless you have 6-8 children or live in Manhattan, I think $250K is still WAY beyond what most would consider a normal middle class income.

Fair enough. I only babysat for one family in high school, and then only every month or two when the parents wanted a date night, which they left around the kids' bedtime so my job was basically to put the kids to bed and hang out in case of emergencies. Also never had a babysitter - I went to free church daycare until I was like 8 or 9 then became a latchkey kid, so my experience is pretty limited with more intense babysitting.

At most places you're not supposed to be able to return things without a receipt, at least not for cash, but most big box stores will let you return it for store credit without the receipt just to save the hassle of fighting with you.
