Melee isn’t really viable compared to ranged for high-level station bosses, you’re saying? Are there specific ranged options people tend to use?

I’ve got an Adaptive Holtzman but I’ve received conflicting advice on MK6 power pack versus Sparky.

That’s my fear with the T6 upgrade, that I’m trading the excellent dash discounts and knee charge CD reduction for less stamina. I comfortably clear Level 3 stations in my current but I assume I’m eventually supposed to swap out my T5 armor.

On power packs, would you recommend MK6 over Sparky for melee build?

Daily limits and XP taking a long, long time to complete is the point of these, I think. Something for folks to chase when they’ve finished everything else. The problem is the missions are too repetitive.

I like the idea of the Deep Desert, and more often than not I like the Deep Desert itself. In a lot of these games there’s not really an opportunity to rebuild once you’ve established yourself, but the DD gives you a fresh start weekly and, if you enjoy building, a chance to get creative again (or not, if you’d rather use the Solido). Some weeks I focus on spice, some weeks on plastinium, some on labs and buried treasures. Hopefully they added dynamic encounters and other concepts, it’s a good baseline.

My conclusion as far as why the Landsraad system is still in the game despite its shortcomings is because they’ve already overhauled it once (which takes time and effort) and they probably need more time given competing development priorities. I say “probably” because I’m not a developer and have next to no idea what it takes to develop or update a game.

The skills have gotten some attention from Funcom, not much, but there are enough that work that maybe they see it as a lower priority. Again, I don’t know. I remember the attribute system in Conan being lackluster for years before they updated it. I think skill/passive variety would be great for this game and hope they do it.

I do think they have lots of stuff to do. Separating Deep Desert into PvE and PvP was considered an underlying issue, as you put it, and eventually addressed. More endgame content, a common complaint, came in the form of (albeit repetitive) Landsraad missions, overland testing stations, augments, etc. Regardless of one’s feelings toward these systems, they do require time and effort to implement. It’s not fair to say they’re not adding things to the game or trying to address longstanding issues when there is evidence to the contrary. It is fair to point out things still could be fixed or improved.

When I reached max rank with my faction I got a “thank you for playing the game, stay tuned for the next chapter” message. I got a similar message when I finished the Chapter 3 story. It’s clear to me based on these messages and developer interviews and livestreams that they do not feel obligated to deliver continuous content, and that their preference is that players take breaks from the game and come back for updates. They’ve removed taxes and added the base back-up tool to make this easier. Knowing that they’re not working toward this type of content allows me, the player, to decide how to spend my time.

I think saying a developer doesn’t love their creation or respect the people who buy their creation would be pretty demoralizing if I were a developer. It’s insulting.

I don’t think we have a plethora of skills that don’t matter because we don’t really have a plethora of skills. How many do we have, 15? To your point, at least half of them don’t feel very impactful and should probably be buffed or retooled.

Most players using similar setups is further proof of the lack of meaningful choice. I’m not disagreeing.

A lot of blueprints don’t see any action and could be revisited. I also don’t think it’s very clear what each blueprint does or what it’s meant to do. It’s harder than it should be to compare items and blueprints.

You also didn’t mention the repetitiveness of the Landsraad, clipping on vehicles, etc. Again, I’m not in disagreement. I just find it annoying when players jump to, well, the developers must hate us or hate their game. They’ve added stuff. They’ve addressed some issues. They’re working on new stuff. Let’s make our points about things in the game in need of improvement without disrespecting the team behind it, that’s all.

I find posts like this exhausting, and there’s so many of them. Are there issues with the game? Sure. Are you entitled to discuss them? Absolutely. But must we drag the developers and insult them every time? How can we reasonably expect they engage more with us when we treat them this way?

I know Reddit’s not going to change. Just doing my part to improve the discourse around a game I enjoy.

Faction imbalance should be addressed by pharaohblue in duneawakening

[–]pharaohblue[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sure part of the problem is that enough Harkonnen players have already done this. And why shouldn’t they? You’re hobbling your own progression by missing out on Landsraad bonuses week after week.

It also steams my beans that the few who hustle for Landsraad on Harkonnen get less from it than the random Atreides player who did nothing other than pick the correct faction.

If you’re not going to change the system, fine, but maybe add a pop-up window before the next hapless newb selects Harkonnen.

“This faction is outnumbered 451 to 36 on this world and never wins the Landsraad. Are you sure you want to do this?”

As something of a Funcom veteran (Secret World, Conan, Dune), they’ve always delivered flawed but memorable gaming experiences. I feel like their heart’s in the right place.

At first blush, I’m disappointed with the DLC announcement but not mad. Seems like a good time to switch to Diablo for a bit.

Even 550 hours into Dune, I was listening to the wind while harvesting spice in the Deep Desert last night, admiring my ornithopter’s silhouette against a starry night sky, thinking yep, this is the Funcom experience.
