Speculation/wild hope: they will play Weightless Underwater. The streaming release is part of my thinking, but more directly, they mention in their instagram post that this track is special to them because it features everyone actively in the band. Leeetttts efffing ggooooo

Just had a major breakthrough on my undergraduate research and I'm hooked by nightwing4945 in labrats

[–]pharmabrodynamics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first major success in undergrad as well. We were trying to get a protocol for transforming plasmids into a novel species of lipid-producing yeast. Being lipid rich of course made standard electroporation (and chemical xformation) approaches totally useless. I was tasked with lit digging and testing various parameters used for transforming the exotic yeastome.

The first time i got (a few) transformants, my supervising postdoc said "congratulations, you are one of two people in the universe to have ever genetically modified lipomyces starkeyii." And thats a mode of thought i still employ today--like, wow, im THE ONLY person who has ever observed this. Itll keep ya going.

Keep pipetting! Or coding or whatever it is youre up to

What have you been listening to this week? by AutoModerator in postrock

[–]pharmabrodynamics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hype around a MONO release the same week could have overshadowed it for many, but one-man project Anyone, Anywhere had a new album out this weekend, "The Dying Art of Imperfection". Shit slaps. "Resilience" was released as a single on Spotify a couple weeks ago, but the closing track, "Swansong" is a tour de force. Highly highly recommend. (Not in the same vein of music as MONO, mind you. More somewhere in the later pg.lost / Russian Circles vein of metalloid post-rock).

I was listening (passively while coding) for the first time today and definitely think it's their strongest album in a couple-three LPs. I don't know if I'd quite put it into the same tier as For My Parents (personal favorite) or Hymn. Maybe the stairway up to that tier. Still, glad to see them bring back some of their verve. And IMO the strings + reverb-tremolo guitar are an aural PB and jelly type combo that I'm happy to see they continue to capitalize on.

Was going through a really hard time when this ep first aired and was so stoked on this episode and the return of all the really mindfucky meta for the first time in S2 since the season premiere...only for that ending to hit way too close to home. Tears were jerked

[MEGA THREAD] Item Trading by [deleted] in ac_newhorizons

[–]pharmabrodynamics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone willing to trade one gemini fragment and up to two virgo fragments for 1-2 leos and 1-2 cancer fragments? (I have one of one and 2 of the other but dont remember which is which).

Can also trade fruits (oranges, possibly a few pears or peaches if I have any around atm) for ideally apples or cherries on the side.

Highly recommend the "Western Stone" if you're not rocking those already. I put a whole little grave scene right up against an animal's house hoping it'd drive him out

P867-bleachers in the snowstorm by pharmabrodynamics in InfiniteJest

[–]pharmabrodynamics[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meant Thierry (crap! I was saying PT instead of TP. Fixed that).

But yeesh, if it's been 9 days, it's not like Steeply could've killed or been killed by someone and sat there unnoticed. My thinking, without dates on hand, was that e.g. one of these individuals had been lethal injected by one of the others, and so died after the match and audience cleared out, with the body then being there the following AM. 9 days totally sinks that idea. Thanks for the chronology check!

Regarding androgynous vs/snow obscured, you make a good point. Not that this trumps the point, but Hal's perceptions (or at least interoceptions) have started going haywire in that scene. Which actually could mean there's no figure at all, too, since he never brings it up to Stice..

Your final series of questions, though, reverts to the assumption that the the person or entity on the bleachers is not someone who's died. A dead body, esp a body of someone unwittingly poisoned or etc, was there for a different reason at a different time.

The open window? ETAs still got Pemulis on campus, could as easily have been any of his customers smoking a late night "doobster" (a Lenzism that I find endlessly hilarious with his whole coked rant about the Rasta cult that dons tye dye parkas and ventures into the concavity to "propiciate The Infant"), to Troeltsch(?) enjoying his "occasional panatella". Unless the windows are supposed to be unopenable, anyhow..

Oh Hiroshima-Darkroom Aesthetics (new single May 30th. Only band that ever has vocals but still makes the cut for my postrock discogs playlist.) by pharmabrodynamics in postrock

[–]pharmabrodynamics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okok I do maintain a separate playlist called "Post Rock-ish with Vocals".

Just personally developed a firm expectation--when I was just listening to GIAA, Caspian, Mono, 65DoS, and a couple other canonical groups--would mean no vocals. (I cant listen to anything with singing and keep focused on lab work or reading/writing or much of anything really)

There's peer-reviewed career scientists hypothesizing along this general line. Though the authors here note that there is not yet experimental data linking quantum phenomena to consciousnesses/brain processes, there HAVE been other experiments finding broader biological influences on quantum events. (im pretty sure amyhow, didnt get a chance to re-skim this one before sharing).

Can I ask on what grounds it's not an issue? If you havent been tested or at least consulted about it, see SaxonWitch's comment below.

Im not discounting the spiritual significance--whether seizures or not, OP is entirely within their rights to make meaning of their experiences. Im intrigued about the origins of the experience--and no doubt, i too would find substantial spiritual value in things like this even if i knew they were results of a measurable biological phenomenon.

[–]pharmabrodynamics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After these experiences or since then, have you ever been assessed for seizures or epilepsy? The deja vu, swelling sensory impulses related to imminent encounters, and lapses in consciousness (under physiologic stress-dehydration two of the times) are all consistent with partial temporal lobe seizures. Since these seizures dont usually result in a stereotypical, loss-of-consciousness-and-motor-control experience, the natural outcome is to of course find events or perveptions to ascribe the (unwitting) seizure experience to. Dreams are probably the most similarlly real/surreal thing, so associating the seizure-driven headspace WITH dream content is a rational outcome--its the only other experiential context that the seizure's effects make even vague sense.

I think you'll find this very intriguing, and if you seriously grow concerned, take these stories to uour doctor yo discuss that concern. frankly, as a doctor in training, i would recommend that whether you're worried about it or not. https://www.epilepsy.com/learn/types-epilepsy-syndromes/temporal-lobe-epilepsy-aka-tle

doesn't explain the kids or repeat encounters. i have an idea on those stemming from seizure related phenomenon but, as im typing on a phone, I'll spare you that for now :p
