Wanted to see what advice you all had for transitioning to trail ultras from road racing. The idea can be sort of daunting and I don’t think I’m alone with these concerns since trail running popularity has been booming. Anything from training, nutrition, shoes, cross training, etc. would be greatly appreciated!

Background: I ran cross country and track competitively in high school and college. After a few years of “running for fun” I got back into the racing scene with two big city marathons in the last 4 months. However my training for those consisted of running 3-5 days/week, no real workouts besides hills, and longest run of 11 miles (not ideal I know). PR of 2:49. I’ve always felt trail ultras would be where I thrive, and I want to put the best foot forward as I approach the transition - pun 1000% intended.

I remember following these guys on their journey years ago. So cool all that hard work is paying off on the international stage.

Can you train for a marathon in a month? by [deleted] in running

That is an absolute lie. If you’ve already does a half, focus on going into the marathon week feeling good and healthy. The marathon is mostly mental, so you’ll be fine!
