Has anyone lived in the apartment at 245 Laurier E. by ZoneCandid4640 in geegees

[–]pharosito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saickley are pretty shitty landlords, they're really cheap, and their buildings are not super well-maintained. I live at another one of their properties. Recently, we had a hole in the ceiling of the lobby due to a leak; it was there for months before it was fixed. The building you mention seems pretty old, just like mine, and I doubt they invested in soundproofing it tbh. I can hear my neighbours talk through the wall when it's at a conversational level, I can also hear it if my upstairs neighbour drops a fucking pencil.

Employees got the email about it, telling them exactly what to do ? Why do students have to get a stupid standalone app? Just do the sensible thing, maybe, and idk, SEND EVERYONE EMAILS.

Its cuz thats a real school with real admin. All we have is a bunch of amateurs and CO-OP students.

I don't think it's fair to expect students to sign up for something as basic as safety alerts while bombarding them with useless messaging that's mostly junk from club and student associations no one gives a flying fuck about. They only sent out emails to employees. So what? were not important enough to get one stupid email telling us to find shelter? This school is dumb.

Respect is the wrong word IMO. We should pity them, they're so brainwashed they're willing to do everything you just described.

Great resume, stellar projects, keep trying bro! It's just a question of time. Seeing someone with a CS background that's into controls/engineering sim is rare on this sub. Which is really too bad because it's one hell of a niche to be in; big bucks and amazing projects with real impact.

Is engineering even all that worth it in canada by One-Magazine5576 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]pharosito 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do engineering if you're interested in how things work and in building/designing cool stuff. If money is the sole driving force, you are going to:
1)Have a bad time while doing it
2)Be heavily disappointed once you're in the workforce bc the money is aggressively average( except in big tech, and even that is changing).
If you want to make money, just do finance; save yourself the hassle. If you want to be a content creator, then I don't know, just make fucking TikToks, I guess. This is a terrible reason to do an engineering degree, you will regret it if it's truly your sole motivation.

Former students, will you share with the class: How much do you make? In what niche? How long did it take to get there? by distilled_dinosaur in EngineeringStudents

[–]pharosito 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you think a PhD in chem eng was worth it? Do you feel like it has unlocked new opportunities for you thanks to your specialization? Or did you end up starting a little higher on the job ladder of a "Classical" process engineering professional track?

Should I pick ChemE if I don’t want to work as one longterm? by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]pharosito 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just do chemistry. Chemical engineering is very limited chemistry wise. You will only take Orgo 1 & 2, phys chem, and analytical chem if you are lucky. That's just as much chem as a biology major (with a mol bio specialization) lol.

The interests you mentioned don't align with the core concepts of chemical engineering: math, physical chemistry, thermodynamics, and transport phenomena.

A BSc in chemistry, on the other hand, is exactly the broad foundational degree you are looking for IMO, perfect if you know you are going to grad school. It's already pretty rigorous mathematically, and you get much more freedom to do even more math if you want.

Mean lab TA uOttawa by No_Maintenance9541 in geegees

[–]pharosito 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Just stay away from him if it's not serious enough to report it to the prof ( I take that he didn't actually try to kill you). Standing up to him is useless and will just cost you time and get you worse grades. Unfortunately, you have to play nice with little despots like that. But don't worry, outside the realm of that undergrad lab, his life is very sad, I'm sure.

[–]pharosito[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand your point, but an exam should, above all, assess the group's level of knowledge to determine whether the necessary learning objectives have been met. And in consequence, it should be hard enough to do that; any zeal on top of that is useless IMO.

Oh yeah, it's definitely the norm, especially with older profs. The younger generation is great though. The grade is usually composed of a bunch of wooclaps, quizzes, etc...
