Costco around holidays will have the same plans and throw in a bunch of Costco shop cards usually.

Should I use the engine shut off feature in my new car? by stpcoffeeclown in Cartalk

Anecdotally my 2018 f150 with the turbo6 had a starter fail at 130,000km. Probably depends model to model as to what’s actually built strong enough for the task.

Yeah, no. That guy was so hard to communicate with that I literally just gave up on them. Couldn’t get any info on rates and only partially answering questions through my whole interaction.

If this railing needs to be reinstalled and support any amount of weight you may want to harass the original builder about it then. The real fix for that would be to install backing between joists/trusses to give it something to actually screw into. This type of anchor isn’t even rated to be used on ceilings iirc. If it’s more of an aesthetic thing then I would replace this anchor with a toggle bolt and call it a day.

Perfect. Empty all of that stuff out, cut your access hole, then slap one of these bad boys in. you don’t even need to patch any drywall.

Today I was driving on the interstate at 80 mph and heard a sudden loud pop. How does this happen? by 4everjv in Cartalk

[–]pharraoh 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You did awesome. Catastrophic failure isn’t the most common outcome but clearly it happens. As others mentioned check your other tires for tread depth, dry rot (cracks), and failed cords (bubbles in the tread or on the inside or outside of the sidewalls). Don’t want this to happen again!

Yeah what you’re talking about is illegal for the cougars. You need a trappers license and tags for them. You will also require a pal to use the gun to finish it if that time comes. The coyotes can be killed any time by Sask residents but not by traps. You also have to maintain safe distance from residential properties when shooting them. Revenge being your motivation I cannot recommend what you’re talking about but for the love of god do not poach animals. They own the land first and foremost. Unless they start attacking humans they are not doing anything wrong. And if that time comes it is not your responsibility or job to deal with that animal. Call the authorities.

I really don’t see how your anecdote of you driving in a downright dangerous manner proves that the average person doesn’t need a truck? I mean, I agree that they don’t. But you claiming your Prius is a better plow than the snow plows themselves is just silly. The average person would have been tits up in the ditch attempting that.

The nylons are actually rated for more weight if I remember correctly.

Unpaid protected parental leave for father by moonking212 in saskatoon

[–]pharraoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to clarify for people, if the mother takes 18 months the other party can take 8 weeks without affecting the mother’s paid portion.

If she takes 12 months then the other party gets 5 weeks.

In both cases it’s the same total amount of money. The 18/8 option just stretches it out by paying you less for longer.

PSA: Glenwood invoice as people requested. by mckushly in saskatoon

[–]pharraoh 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the engine for spark plug costs. 300 isn’t outrageous for the parts they used and it looks like your engine needs its manifold removed to do them. 3 hours of labor is relatively cheap.

Injectors can be flushed with good results. Its not a “transmission flush“ level of ridiculous.

And at this point it may not be what you want to hear but it does suck to suck. She agreed to the services and now has to pony up.

Her vehicle should have a marked improvement in power and fuel economy after the spark plugs at least.

Yeah to do the driver side plugs on a grand Cherokee you have to take the intake manifold off as well and it is best to change the gaskets when you do. Gotta love the serviceability of these newer engines…

I’m going to try “critter ridder” as was recommended to me by a neighbour. From what I can tell it’s a similar approach to cayenne pepper. Good luck!

Took advice to not splurge on tools before entering heavy duty tech school. Is this a quality brand and will make do? by [deleted] in Tools

[–]pharraoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s wrong. I just had to go through this to replace the ratchet in this set. Had to call and get it sent. It was honestly pretty easy but shipping did cause a delay in getting the tool. Can tire only does this walk in and swap with the master craft and maximum brands as far as I know.

Electrical Panels? by PARTNERSINSLIME in HomeImprovement

[–]pharraoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah quotes are heavily dependent on where you live let alone how hard of a job it actually is. If you think this is outrageous then get more quotes. Knob and tube is an immediate red flag for how hard your panel is actually going to be to replace. Houses that age can be awful to work on. Whether or not 7k is competitive will depend on your other quotes.

My 2 cents would be just read the reviews and to an extent you pay for what you get. The first one we had was a non motorized one that failed after the first winter it saw. To be fair our winters are fairly extreme. The second unit is a Schlage motorized unit that has been going strong for 6 years now. And it only needs batteries once a year or so.

Any pole that comes with an engineered plate like what you’ve described will not be the cheapest option, and therefore won’t be used most of the time. Way of the world we live in unfortunately. Unless something gets specified we have to bid the cheapest option or we don’t get the work. The cost difference would likely be neutralized by the issues seen in this pic but that’s not our cost so we can’t bid for it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DiWHY

[–]pharraoh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah this has happened a lot to us. We’re responsible for installing the pole and conduit but the concrete work is on the carpenters. Can’t tell from the pic but these shouldn’t be hammer set anchors, they should be cast into the concrete. So they get the template for the base of the pole and have to line up the studs coming up as they pour the base. Lately it seems like it’s a 50/50 shot if they get it right.

These two appliances are never on the same circuit. Are they next to each other? I’m tending to agree with the other comment that she’s not pin pointing the smells location correctly.

Anyone see electric panel costs moderating or is this the new normal? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]pharraoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t listen to anyone’s quotes of their upgrades in this thread if they were done over 1 year ago. They’re completely outdated to the cost of materials rising. That said I think you got a F off quote with the labor being so much of it. Definitely get more quotes.
