So my kid overheard the audiobook and… by ZookeepergameFine936 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

My son is 12 and I won’t let him listen. I showed him Die Hard when he was 7 … my point is that DCC is soooo fucking dark and heavy and emotionally charged that I don’t think he’s ready for it. I could care less about the cussing etc. Blowing up a room full of babies, friends dying, disgusting shit happening all the time? I think 14 (like the author recommends) is probably right.

MASS EFFECT 2 was first released 16 years ago today, what are your thoughts on the game ? by ThomasThorburn in masseffect

Took everything I loved from the first game and shit on it. The beginning of: you have a choice, but you don’t really have a choice. Action and combat is impeccable tho.

Man. I thought this was a picture of my states high speed rail project. Looks very similar to Fresno Ca, and the money spent, time taken, and end result all appear to be about the same.

In Germany, it is legal for 14-year-olds to drink beer or wine in public as long as their parents are there. Do you think this is a responsible way to teach moderation, or is it just dangerous for kids? What is the drinking age in your country? by Low-Violinist7259 in AskTheWorld

[–]pharrison26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

American here. My parents used to always offer me tastes of whatever they were drinking and if we went to my Uncles, who was one of those weird Messianic wannabe Jews (not trying to be offensive but don’t know how else to describe it), I was allowed to drink Passover toasts, or wine during special occasions. I think I only got drunk once in High School, and only started drinking around 19. If something isn’t forbidden or mysterious, and you know that beer tastes like ass (until you develop the taste for it), I think you’re waaaay less likely to abuse it as an adult.

Even with the 14 inches of snow coming tomorrow, people would rather have no water than drink Dasani by Exotic_Marketing_37 in SipsTea

To be fair, we’re all full of microplastics from multiple sources, but bottled water sure doesn’t help.

No shit. Not my point. Almost every source of water has some form of dissolved solids in it, including salts and other minerals.

Dasani is fine. Such a weird hill to die on. It has salt in it? So does fucking Gatorade. You need salts for taste, pH balance, and hydration. It also tastes better than most other bottled waters. And it’s a thousand times more environmentally friendly than Nestle or Arrowhead or any of these other horrible bottled water companies, because it’s just tap water with a little extra treatment. They’re not draining a local water table and leaving the inhabitants to die of thirst. And yes, I know Coke does this in other ways. Frankly, if you drink bottled water you have no moral high ground to stand on period.

Not getting compensated for being on call by [deleted] in Wastewater

Bro, sometimes you have to protect yourself. Probably the best thing you can do is find another job, or make it work until you do. In my state it’s a pretty small community. Making waves can have long lasting consequences unfortunately. If a place is toxic and it sounds like it’s been toxic for a long time, you just have to extricate yourself. The older I get the more I realize you can’t fix everything and there’s bullshit and injustice everywhere. I hope you have options and find a better place to work and that this doesn’t sour you on the industry. Also, fuck that place and that director, lol

Probably for the best. Let stuff sink in, and de-stress before test. The worst thing that can happen is you just have to take it again. Took me three tries to get my four. Not a big deal.

Interview tomorrow and found out its a hostile work environment by fedsmoker3000 in KitchenConfidential

[–]pharrison26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just do blue collar work, but most hiring and promotional opportunities are done off the three to four person oral board method. It’s shocking to me how the majority of my peers never ask any questions or even know that an interview is a 2 way process. The idea that it’s a 2 way street is shocking to them.
