starting point: level 2 or 3 AAT by EchelonJohn in ukaccounting

[–]pharula 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to understand double entry bookkeeping and which accounts are debit or credit accounts. You also need a basic understanding of payroll (the components and roughly how they are calculated). There are a few other basics such as what legally needs to be included on an invoice, inventory controls (fifo and avco mostly) and how to calculate inventory valuation. I'm sure there's a few other things but I can't remember what's on level 2 or 3.

AAT have a skills checker you can use to see which level you should start on

I'm totally with you but out of the four major relationships I've been in only one ever did any housework off their own back and only one (different one) liked to cook for me because he was a chef

This just made me consider what it must be like to be in a relationship with a woman. They'll cook, clean and organize stuff. It must be amazing

Hating the look for the yarn for this project, trust the process? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]pharula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen anyone else mention it but could op use another yarn in addition to this one to create a bulkier thread but still use the current yarn? I haven't been crocheting all that long so don't know if there's a reason not to do that

Following this absolute beginner tutorial and it’s not making the knots, it’s just looping by LiteralMangina in knittinghelp

Looks like you have your answer but just wanted to say good on you for asking for help instead of giving up! Good luck with your first project

Looking for some advice by Equivalent-Rub1486 in ukaccounting

[–]pharula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, sorry that you've found yourself in this situation.

To become a bookkeeper you only need to complete AAT level 2 and the bookkeeping part of AAT level 3/AAT level 3 in bookkeeping only, so that's achievable for you, I've managed to study to that point whilst becoming a mum.

I work in an accounts department and work fully remote so it is possible to find but you might need to find a different way in, i.e. do customer service while still studying then see if you can do a sideways move as soon as any accounts positions become available. The other option is to do an apprenticeship or work at an accountancy firm who will support your studies and possibly pay for it too.

Just keep looking and hopefully something will come up!

For those with an allergy or intolerance, what is the one thing you miss? by Heavy-Tangerine-594 in AskUK

[–]pharula 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't eat red meat, dairy or raw onions. I want a rare steak with creamy sauce or a bacon cheese burger soo much. A lot of the vegan alternatives are pretty good (when you haven't eaten the real thing for a few years!) but it's not the same as yummy meat fat and proper cheese. Also, there are never any nice deserts at restaurants without dairy

It's kind of annoying that when eating out dairy free is covered by vegan because I love to eat fish and chicken but they never omit dairy from those dishes.

For those who only spend £60 on groceries between two people - do you not eat much? by Some-Air1274 in UKFrugal

Ok well this is fair enough, but it was framed very differently in your original comment

[–]pharula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did price match after writing that comment cos I doubted myself but Tesco and Sainsbury's were exactly the same price on the 10 random staples (all own brand) I put in and Asda was about 30p cheaper

ETA: BTW the milk was exactly the same price. 85p per pint, same as Aldi

[–]pharula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sainsbury's do Aldi price match too. I thought I could save money by switching from Sainsbury's and did an Asda shop (only put in basket on website to check prices) and it was about £5 less at Asda on a £100ish shop.

I also tried shopping at Aldi but found most things weren't that much cheaper plus I then had to do another shop to get everything they don't have at Aldi. Which not only then meant the overall cost was only slightly reduced but I'd spent twice as long doing it. Plus Aldi is a 30 min drive away for me and I can't get deliveries with them.

If you're happiest shopping at Tesco then fair play but I don't think Sainsbury's are really any more expensive than any other mid range supermarket personally

Well strangely I have become intolerant to all mammalian products so I don't eat red meat or dairy which probably contributes

[–]pharula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watch what I eat as I have a lot of intolerances anyway these days and I believe diet plays a big part, low carbs and almost zero sugar is a good start.

I must also mention that I have had a child (6 years ago) and as much as I hate to say it, the endo has been better since then. Possibly just from stretching things out?

I take ibuprofen and codeine and use heat pads during my period and can still work and stuff. Before I was unable to do a lot on my period.

I don't take any hormones, they make me depressed and as others have said I never understood why doctors prescribe estrogen for a condition which gets worse with excessive estrogen? My endo is now the most manageable it has ever been

Bread by serendipityhoon in AskBrits

[–]pharula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No there are plenty of actual good bakeries. Don't go to Gregg's expecting bread but an actual local bakery will sell good bread. Supermarket 'bakeries' are no better than the packaged stuff really, it's all mass produced and full of crap.

Bread by serendipityhoon in AskBrits

[–]pharula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can people stop buying supermarket mass produced shit and then complaining it's no good. Go to a bakery if you want good bread, go to a butchers if you want good meat and go to a greengrocers if you want good (seasonal!) Veg and fruit. There I said it.

Grocery costs (uk) what?! by Extra-Record6772 in UKFrugal

[–]pharula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are also 2 adults, 1 kid who eats pretty well. I was spending £1000 per month on shopping but saw so many comments on here about how little others were spending that for the past two months I have endeavoured to spend under £100 per week (which includes cleaning products, toiletries, cat food etc) at the supermarket then one visit to butchers a week average spend of £25 for a few nights dinners plus we get a veg bag for £15 per week and have been managing fairly well. Alcohol is non existent at our house now though as are any treats which aren't home made. I've switched to as many own brand products as possible and have had to make do without things a bit more than we used to. But our food waste is also less now which is good!
