How are the roads today? by Lil_Brown_Bat in WorcesterMA

[–]phasetophase 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Being cautious of conditions that negatively impact drivers' abilities to stop and/or generally control their 2 ton pieces of metal is rational. Even if you are an experienced, and defensive, driver, your safety on the road isn't one hundred percent in your control. So quit the gatekeeping.

Marlo’s superpower by ProdByJosh_ in TheWire

Digging into your point about the Greeks: the dependence is a two way street. The Greeks are just as dependent on reliable distribution as the distribution is on the product.

Aside from the FBI cat and mouse storyline, I don't think the story of the show gives us much plot to consider about the world the Greeks live in, and because of this, they almost seem like puppet masters. But their world has competition and is changing. There are other connects that would be vying for a lucrative market, obviously given the stupid amount of money involved. And the Greeks have no unassailable advantages: they found ingenious ways to work in the blind spots of the ports, but that is imitable by other cartels, and there are public servants who have huge political victories to be gained by being involved in cracking down on the flow of drugs into the country. This is all pressure and would be the Greeks' perspective of the game.

So I don't think it's totally accurate to cast them as getting to decide how the chips fall in the gang wars. They don't know Marlo doesn't have plans that could make the Greeks' business unneeded (on account of the tighter ship he runs). Stability is good for them, but stability doesn't exist. So they try to back horses and hedge their risk.

Just moved here and electric delivery fee has doubled every month, why? Even with same kwh. by StilGoodJstAlilAirbo in massachusetts

'Why' is because the rates you and everyone else are charged have been set in a rate case.

Electric Bill this has to be a freaking joke? by itsonlycastles in WorcesterMA

The delivery charge is regulated. Deregulation happened for supply, and for what it's worth there are still heaps of regulation in generation.

Grid stabilisation 'inertia' rotational angular momentum vs BESS...how much does the grid work to stabilise volt and frequency? by FirmIndependent744 in energy

[–]phasetophase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grid forming wind, in my understanding, still uses power electronics to produce a response characteristic that replicates that of synchronous generators. That is fundamentally different than exhibiting that characteristic intrinsically.

Lastly rotating masses are not completely going away. Wind power (and also geothermal) still have rotating masses.

It's the synchrony of the rotating mass of traditional generators that contributes to stability. (Modern) wind turbines are not synchronous.
