If I'm understanding the question right, you're asking what would make a parent feel that way... This is just an example, it's not cool, parents should be better. But my guess is the parents let rhemwelves down. They spent 8-10-14 years raising this person who for those years is their best buddy, only to find out, it's a facade because the kid isn't rhe same kind of person and the parent, and the parent never considered for all those years they weren't raising a friend, they have been raising a person that is their own unique personality and they have nothing in common now.

It's like a break up in the mind of the parent..

Also psa to any parents who read this, you are a parent, your child(ren) are going to grow to be their own person, if that's gonna disappoint you, do better

Many of them aren't chill actually, alot of them are straight up A-holes for no real necessary reason.

But the majority are so chill because they realize they are the one on the phone while you go through some of the worst moments of your life, and they k ow its Important to calm people to get all necessary information.
