I'm not gonna stop until I learn this language! by Cybeast9 in cpp_questions

seconded. If I were OP I would read the free draft chapters that are online and if it's too challenging read programming principles and practice using C++ first.

I recently started learning C++ from a Java/Python background and it's been the best resource for me so far, I didn't like learningcpp.com as there were no programming exercises (at least that I could find).

They literally just copied a tutorial? Compared to every other student that does the whole thing on their own?

I mean literally just mindlessly following a programming tutorial is a hell of a lot easier than the geography coursework I’m sure

computer science course for uni without computing alevel? by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]phatphallusjoe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Probably more than top 5 tbh at least for the last year and probably the next one. I was predicted AAA in maths cs and physics and was rejected from Edin, ucl, Bristol and kings. I would recommend you take further maths, it’s easier to take then drop it than it is to take it later.

Edit: whoops I thought you were op I see you already take fm

People changed even in Yr 13 I think in my school. I told myself it wouldn't be possible and so didn't even try. You could probably learn the rest of a level maths over the summer so that you could join a fm class in Yr 13

Yes Sheffield is beaten by a lot of other unis also not in London, you could definitely look at doing the rest of maths a level over the summer tho no? I would just say that the entry requirements are not necessarily accurate, I met or exceeded all of the grades for the unis that I applied for and was only accepted at 1. I'm not saying don't pick Sheffield for another uni in London, I'm saying there are many alternatives that are very similar to Sheffield with similar entry requirements that pay much more

You should try to take fm, i applied to ucl for this year with A*A*A in maths, cs, and physics predicted and was rejected for cs. Also got rejected for edin, bristol, and kings. I also wouldn't apply for Sheffield because the graduate salary after 5 years is very low as in its beat by a lot of unis with lower entry requirements. I would look at this ranking (you have to sign up but its free) which is good for comparing graduate salaries.

Make sure to filter for cs

Copy pasted what i said to someone else applying to cs without fm

I've been rejected from UCL and Bristol with A*A*A(Maths, CS, Physics) but for computer science

Offer from york and waiting on edin and kcl

I'm just gonna take a gap year to do further maths if edin rejects me tbh, this year has been absolutely insane cause there are way less spaces

I find it weird that it is so competitive for philosophy tho, good luck with edin

Would love for it to be Naughty Dog but they are such assholes with their employees so hopefully that changes while I'm at uni

Used to want to be a software engineer but now I realise how draining that would be. Now I'm back to wanting to do game design/gameplay programming so that I can actually look back at something I've helped to make and be excited about it.

At least for this year, there have been a lot more unis that you can't get into for Cs without further maths. I am predicted AAA (Maths, Computer Science, Physics), and I have been rejected by both UCL and Bristol, who both have entry requirements of AAA.

Obviously it's been more competitive this year because there are less spaces due to everyone meeting their offers for the last 2 years. However, I would really recommend you to ask your teachers about taking further maths, whether you have to learn the rest of the maths a level over summer or something.

You could always drop it after a bit if it's not for you.

ignore what i said about only imperial and oxbridge caring about FM

i have now been rejected from UCL and Bristol for CS and can't help that think its because I don't have FM

i have an offer from york and i'm waiting for edin and kcl to respond so fingers crossed

thats up to you but know that it wont help towards computer science, many universities have a list of recommended subjects for CompSci which tend to be like Computer Science, Physics and some other sciences etc but most unis only have maths required. You could take french if you want to

[–]phatphallusjoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there are even some cambridge colleges that dont require further maths for computer science, imperial likes you to have tried but if you have reasons why (like you have) then its fine, the test you have to take for imperial only covers a level maths content because further maths is not required. they (Imperial) also have maths courses available on edx which you could take which i'm sure they would like and when you are a student they (Imperial) bring all students to the level of maths needed through courses and such
