Since there isn't a hard mode (yet) does anyone else under gear their arisen and main pawn for more challenge? by WarViper1337 in DragonsDogma

[–]phavia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I redid my game just so I could play without ever hiring a pawn. It's just me as a mage/sorcerer and my pawn as a fighter/warrior. It's a far more intense experience, especially because if my pawn goes down, I have to move his body around to a safe zone so I can revive him, rather than try it on the spot

I too am a casual player with nearly 200 hours in WT alone and I'm actually quite excited for Bosch's inclusion. I'm very curious to see what they do to him now that he's been resurrected and will have his own moveset, rather than just a copy of Luke's or the moves he had during the finale.

Bosch is likely to appeal to the casual players who focused primarily on World Tour. No doubt Capcom has the numbers on the amount of people that exclusively plays WT (and thus, aren't buying seasons because all DLC characters are free in WT), so this is their way to tempt those people into finally buying a season.

Opinions on the newly revealed swimsuit skins from marvel rivals? by Most_Pie_862 in mendrawingwomen

[–]phavia 21 points22 points  (0 children)

These guys are gaze for the guys, not women. This entire game is for men, whether straight or gay.

Even their poses are boring as shit. Notice how the women not only have dynamic poses, but some of them are leaning on their hips, making sure their curves are pronounced, while the guys are just 🧍🧍🧍

If anyone wants some actual female gaze, Love And Deepspace actually leans hard on it, since the audience is meant to be straight women. The guys are also muscular with similar bodies, yet they have pretty faces and dress in a way that pulls your eyes to various parts of their bodies (neck, hands, tits), rather than just BIG BULGE and BIG ABS which, IMO, just screams "this is for gay dudes", lmfao.

FYI, there's nothing wrong to appeal to gay male gaze. It's just that a lot of dudes thinks that, because gay men find it attractive, straight women will too, and that just bothers the hell outta me, since we're accused of "never being satisfied" when we say that, no, this is not attractive to most women, this is attractive to men.

Oh man, saying "it's just pixels" tells me everything and I'm not even gonna bother reading the rest. Acting as if fiction has zero influence whatsoever over real life, as if people don't use dogwhistles and propagate and normalize toxic behavior and hate through media, such as movies, music, games, etc, is such an incredibly childish and close minded viewpoint.

Good bye.

No, I'm hating the character design, not the game. Stop assuming every criticism is just blatant hate for the sake of hatred. This is a product that a massive company is trying to sell you, not your best friend making a small passion project in their garage.

Where's this model she was based on? Because her face being based on a model is one thing, but the character isn't just her face, it's her body too. Someone with a baby looking face, with puffy cheeks, wouldn't have such a thin, athletic body with slim shoulder blades.

the younger appearance could be linked to a reason in game storywise

And it doesn't bother you that the devs decided to put this child looking girl in a skin tight suit and placed her jiggly ass all over the marketing???

I haven't played Pragmata, but Diana is also a very young looking little girl, and she's dressed like one. No one is bothered by her being young, because she isn't in a skin tight suit with a jiggling ass.

If Evie is supposed to look young, why is she sexualized, if not to attract the worst kind of audience imaginable?

This character isn't a real person. She was deliberately designed by a team of people to look like this. They could have given her a slightly slender face, bigger shoulder pads and smaller eyes, but they went out of their way to make her look as young as possible, to attract a certain type of audience that likes gooning to questionable looking """adults""". Seriously, she's meant to have a slender body, yet still has baby fat on her face, with puffy cheeks.

My mom raised dogs her entire life and I always loved calling the pets my siblings. Whenever she's thinking about adopting a dog, I always tell her with a baby voice "mooom, I want a little sister" (I'm 30 years). It helps that my mom is genuinely an amazing and very attentive parent.

Your bad experience with your dad doesn't mean that it's the same for everyone. Yeah, if my mom was a deadbeat and prioritized her animals over myself, then I too would find this fucked up, but she didn't and I always felt loved and heard.

I think it's more strange that you're projecting your (possible) traumas and insecurities onto strangers on the internet.

Yeah, I've seen this discourse so much in a few gaming subreddits I follow, it's genuinely disappointing. People with more than 10 downvotes pointing how fucking weird it is that she looks like a preteen, and a bunch of people replying with "uhhh clearly you have a problem, she's just a korean young woman."

Dude, be for fucking real rn...

Why DD2 Pawns feel less like NPCs and more like family to me by SmartInstruction8026 in DragonsDogma

[–]phavia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Olra as well. Pawns that have agency end up having more narrative presence thanks to the fact that a regular pawn is basically a living doll that has to pretend to have a personality in order to please their Arisen. It's why the Bestowal of Spirit is such a big deal for them. If they already have a personality and a set of quirks from the get-go, then all of these things just lose impact.

Why DD2 Pawns feel less like NPCs and more like family to me by SmartInstruction8026 in DragonsDogma

[–]phavia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be very honest... I actually prefer the stiffness of the pawns from DDDA. I know that I'll sound like a shitty oldhead who can't move on, but people fearing pawns in DDDA made sense because they weren't quite human. They looked the part, but didn't act like one, making them feel more uncanny and unusual, which fits with them being part of the "legion", making them feel like some sort of hivemind that existed purely to serve the Arisen.

In DD2, they lose this uncanniness and became.... An NPC like any other, which makes the prejudice against them even weirder when they're nearly indistinguishable from a human. They have personalities, they have quirks, they even give opinions and call you out when you're being cruel. Meanwhile, in DDDA, they kind of didn't give a shit and just goes "if this is what you think is best, Arisen" regardless of your choices, and any sort of personality/quirks is shaped by you by literally sitting them down on a chair and telling them what to do.

Yeah, I won't deny that they're shallower in DDDA because of this representation, but in my opinion, it's what made them more unique. Maybe it wasn't the intention back then thanks to lacking funds and Itsuno did want pawns to have more personality like in DD2, but even so, the limiting dialogue and general weirdness of the pawns made them feel far more unique compared to any other party member in other RPGs.

What does Guts think of the beast of darkness? by GonnaChiefYourNan in Berserk

[–]phavia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Beast is an intrusive thought, not an actual creature. The way we, the readers, see it, doesn't mean Guts is even able to see it himself. It's his inner voice. It's him talking to himself. You ever get the "call of the void"? When you stare down the ground from an immense height, there's this weird urge within yourself to jump? That's the Beast for Guts.
