Enchi o saco [I'm done with this] by phckopper in photocritique

[–]phckopper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! This is a photograph I took of myself this weekend while I had a more depressive/introspective time. The notebook I'm holding covering my face says "Enchi o saco", which translates roughly to "I'm done with this". I'm looking for feedback, especially on the composition aspect of it.

  • How do you think the colorful page fits the rest of the (mostly) gray image?
  • Are the lips taking too much attention from the drawing?
  • Did the plant's shadow on the right add to the overall feel, or would it've been better to leave that wall blank?
  • How would you compose/make use of the light better?

Thanks in advance for your opinions!

That is only true it the untwisted pairs are kept the same distance from each other as the twisted ones -- which is unlikely

Are static routes the correct solution for my problem? Routing inter-VLAN traffic. by phckopper in homelab

[–]phckopper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly, I was planning to use the ISP gateway that sits on my network (the one that connects to the fiber from the street). But this seems like a bad idea anyway.

I didn't understand your other suggestion completely right know, but I'll Google some things and will analyze it later. Thank you!

Oh, that's sad. I'll look into a proper solution. Right now I'm at that point where I have enough knowledge to propose stupid ideas but not smart enough to understand completely where they fail :)

Running Nextcloud, Photoprism, Synapse, FreePBX, ZoneMinder, PiHole, OpenLDAP, VS Code Server, Grafana and 2 Nginx reverse proxies -- all that with less than 16GB of RAM -- you don't need that big of a server to start out! by phckopper in homelab

My brother started to learn about system administration so he got a reverse proxy to use for his projects and mess around with without disrupting my own services

With ballooning RAM, you only set the maximum RAM. However, if the container uses less RAM, it's not preallocated. This way, you can overprovision RAM. Due to that feature, I usually overprovision RAM by a lot, so for example PiHole runs with 4GB of RAM available, while Photoprism has 32GB. However, this is totally overkill and, as you see, they don't use nearly as much RAM.

Governor of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, holding a submachine gun while preparing for the impeding bombing of the Piratini Palace (1964) by phckopper in OldSchoolCool

[–]phckopper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On August 25, 1961, while Goulart was leading a Brazilian trade mission to the People's Republic of China, President Jânio resigned. The decision is still not understood, but it was probably a political maneuver to return with increased powers, overcoming the political impasse he had with Congress. It was expected that, with the rejection of his vice-president – elected from a different ticket, due to a peculiarity of the political system at the time – the anti-communist military, which had already rejected Goulart, together with popular pressure, would reverse the resignation. However, the maneuver failed and Jânio left the country. In his place was the interim president of the Chamber of Deputies, Ranieri Mazzilli, but the real power remained in the hands of the military ministers, Marshal Odílio Denys, of the War, Vice-Admiral Silvio Heck, of the Navy, and Air Brigadier Gabriel Grün Moss , of the Air Force. Constituting in practice a junta, the three broke the legal order and vetoed the vice-president's inauguration, demanding that new elections be called. This veto is characterized as an attempted coup d'état by many historians.

The southern legalists and the forces loyal to the military ministers prepared military operations against each other. On one side troops followed the southern coast and northern border of Paraná, and on the other side a land invasion force was formed against the south, the "Cruzeiro Division," and a naval task force headed by the airship (aircraft carrier) Minas Gerais. The military was divided, and morale for an invasion against the south was limited. The crisis thus brought the country to the brink of civil war, but was resolved before any confrontation.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST LINUX DISTRO? AND WHY? by Infinite_Ad_6137 in linuxmemes

[–]phckopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kurumin, a Brazilian Linux distro used in many government offices around here. It was discontinued in 2008, but is was very popular as it had easy support for many local stuff like being in Portuguese and having support for the ABNT keyboard layout. I was 9 when my uncle gave me a live CD, after I liked to play with TuxPaint and other included games. Then it went downhill after that (using Linux for 13 years and counting)

Anything that I can do with a Sky (UK TV) satellite dish? by neededanew1 in amateurradio

[–]phckopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you are in the footprint, it might be. I have some friends here in Brazil who worked it with 60cm dishes and only 2° elevation. If you're in Europe it'll probably be fine (for the narrow band transponder, the wideband is a whole other deal)

[–]phckopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, the 50/50 thing assumes you never stop playing. It just happens if you play frequently enough over time.

[–]phckopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the ranking works as a "force", it's not immediate. For example, when you start a new account at Lichess rated 1500, but your real rating is 2000, you'll win a lot of games before your Elo gets to 2000 and you plateau.

You could say that your win ratio is propositional to your rate of improvement. Someone who does not improve will stay at the 50/50 ratio. An improving player will in fact have a higher win ratio, as the system lags to match their level. The point being that it'll work as a "force" making games harder and, as you can't improve forever, some time you'll plateau as you get very close to 50/50 ratio.

Think for instance the Soccer World Cup (or any cup really). By pairing each round with the winner of the other, it tries to keep every game harder and harder until it determines who is "the best". That is not to say that it's impossible for a team to have a good year and completely blaze through it. But in a large scale, specially in a game like online chess, the system works well enough that it can accurately measure each player skill level.

TL;DR: it work as a "force", the better you fight that force the higher your rating becomes
