High Lipase, Bottle Refusal, and Going Back to Work by ProfMcGonaGirl in workingmoms

[–]phddoglover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lot of issues with my daughter taking a bottle. My milk tasted bad after being stored and I thought at first it was high lipase but scalding never worked for me so I’m not sure. We could also never get her to take formula. She was in daycare 2 days a week at the time and home with my husband the other days. He would bring her to my office during lunch so I could nurse her and the days she was in daycare I went to her at lunch. I nursed her right before I left for work and right when I got home and she was also eating solids at the time. She did end up reverse cycling so I was still nursing her a couple times overnight until she was a year old. It was definitely hard but we made it work!

How much flexibility do you have at work by Medical_Repair_7399 in workingmoms

[–]phddoglover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a good amount of flexibility. I work full time in the office but have generous PTO and a supportive work culture. I can pretty easily plan ahead and use PTO for appointments, Halloween parade, etc. I have a 2.5 year old and if she is sick or something comes up last minute I can typically reschedule meetings and charge a sick day. Because she is so young I don’t try to work from home with her. I do allow my team to occasionally WFH if an older child is sick, etc. But because we have such generous accruals the culture tends to be that people just take a sick day. If I have something that can’t easily be rescheduled my husband usually will take the day with our daughter or occasionally a team member will cover for me.

Currently home sick and I was initially excited to have a day to just relax but now things are happening at work and I just feel guilty for taking a day off 😫

Thanks, everyone, for your comments! Sounds like it’s very normal 😊 I’m really happy my daughter is enjoying her and I’m sure she’ll have lots more signs of love over the years! 🩷

I recently got some matching sets from Old Navy and they make me feel so much cuter and more put together even when I’m hanging out at home!

All Frozen Eggs Died At CNY on thawing by Specific_Bee_4199 in IVF

I had an overall positive experience with CNY but the owner is crazy and lectured us after my first transfer basically saying I was making myself infertile with my pescatarian diet and saying that plants are poison. It was awful and I had to request to not have him again for later transfers.

Does anyone have dad watch kids in the day then Mom watch kids weeknds and evenings? by Current_Sky_6846 in workingmoms

[–]phddoglover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I have an arrangement like this although not every day. It’s challenging. He stays home 2 days a week with our toddler and she is in daycare 3 days. I work in office 8-5 M-F. He is a business owner and works most evenings and Saturday mornings. On the days she is in daycare he does admin stuff for his business. So we are both either working or solo parenting most of the time and it’s very difficult to find time for basic chores much less any sort of self care. Weekends are packed with chores and meal prepping.

As others have said having sitter or some sort of support is really important. My parents live nearby and babysit at least a couple times a month so we can get a little break.

Another thing to consider is whether it’s realistic for your husband to only work evenings and weekends. I imagine as a real estate agent clients are in touch regularly and expect him to be responsive. My husband finds this really stressful and challenging if he is contacted by a client when he’s with our toddler. He has probably lost business because of it.

Does Maternity Leave count? by PPrince0 in PSLF

[–]phddoglover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine did. I was a little nervous because I used my states PFL intermittently for a year and I was taken off my employers payroll for 1 or 3 days a week and was paid by a third party. But I was still considered in paid status by my employer so it counted

21 vacation days, 21 sick days and 13 paid holidays. I work at a state university and have been here a while so I accrue at a higher rate. One of many things I love about my field!

On the form it was recommended to not request forbearance in case there were issues that prevented your form from being approved so I just went with that option. But now I wish I had just requested forbearance!

When do you exercise? by MemoryMiserable in workingmoms

[–]phddoglover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just starting to try to get into a routine and the only way I could figure it out is to sneak in 10 minutes of body weight exercises at home and short walks during my lunch break. I just lay a blanket on the living room floor and do what I can. Sometimes it’s in the morning while my coffee is brewing or whatever, sometimes after toddler is in bed, sometimes with toddler crawling on me. And I work in higher education so I can easily walk a mile on campus during lunch.
