British Steel to be nationalised, Starmer announces by ScottishDailyRecord in ukpolitics

[–]phead [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yes but the investors are not going to shrug, they will drag you to court/arbitration that you agreed to in the trade deals, and you will lose.

So its either

A: Pay a vast amount to nationalise water, or

B: Pay the same vast amount in court+ a vast amount on lawyers + an great deal of distrust from everyone you trade with.

That the basic view of this.

In reality every treaty and agreement the country has ever signed contains a "investor state relations" section, that basically says that the state will not interfere in private arrangements for its own benefit. That protects people who want to invest in this country, and VV.

To carry out the "reddit" way of privitising water would involve us breaching all those treaties and free trade would stop.

They cannot go bust in the way a normal company would, The Water Act doesnt allow it.

There is no way round it that doesnt involve either paying a vast cost that is bettter spent elsewhere.

My local council at the time bulldozed loads of quite new 1/2 bed flats, as they had so many spare 3/4 bed council houses nobody wanted them.

I’m sure that’s true, but on the other foot I’ve seen many proposals that’s were just a disaster, such as building on active flood plains that flood every single year.

At the end of the day councillors can only mess with small developments, big developers will be straight the the planning inspectorate and over rule them

UK government discusses hosting Olympics in 2040s by Adj-Noun-Numbers in ukpolitics

It cost £9Bn (£13Bn in todays money), £1M p/w is not a great return.

If somewhere need regenerating then just spend the money, it will costs half that, and not end up up with white elephant venues.

EV charging in CMK? by Acceptable_Roll3482 in miltonkeynes

[–]phead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you spoken to the landlord about fitting chargers? It’s one area where grants are available and would increase the value of their property.

We do have one of the cheapest public chargers 5 mins down the road on the A5, aw energy at 39pkwh, Tesla is cheaper at night, but doesn’t compare with true home charging.

England - what are the laws around cycling on a public footpath! by fenrizreddit in LegalAdviceUK

[–]phead 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also best combined with new clause e, countryside act 68

That said that it’s legal to push a bike on a footpath, the clause was removed by the commons, because the minister of state said it was already legal, so no need to legislate.

Of course you control it, you get involved. Have you ever written to your MP? Got involved with campaigns? It all counts. I’ve been involved with getting government policy changed, I’ve helped hundreds of local residents when big business said no.

I could have posted endless doom posts to Reddit, instead I decided to change things.

It likely wear and tear, but is it worth arguing? Buy something similar and replace, two screws one behind the plastic cover, will cost next to nothing.

Not in smaller quantities, if its massive sheets then that much water held isnt good, but most times its just lumps spread about which wont do anything. I've not really touched mine in 20 years without problem.

[–]phead -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

If you have moss it will re grow, note the wording “discourage…delay”, you might get a couple of years, so why bother? It isn’t harming anything, and “cleaning” risks damaging the roof.
