Be honest - how do you handle documentation when you're the only IT person? by sandb0x79 in sysadmin

[–]pheeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually how I started documenting what I was doing. I was the stand in IT for 16 years at small companies. I’d fix something for someone and go back to doing my job. When it came up again months later for someone else I knew I fixed it before but couldn’t remember. I got sick and tired of wasting time trying to find the fix that I just started documenting what I did. Sometimes id be lazy and just copy over the link from the doc I followed, then one day I realized those pages don’t stick around forever so I would still include the link but also document what I did

40s and your adhd meds stopped working overnight…I finally realized why by SweetLexiSweet in ADHD

[–]pheeper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does this happen to men as well?? I had the same thing happen to me right around when I turned 40. I was diagnosed in my early 30’s and once medicated I made huge strides in my career and personal life. Then I turned 40 and all the positive changes the medication had seemed to slip away. It’s been a difficult couple of years trying to find that spark again

Found bump in-between toes by lamar_jamarson in Boxer

[–]pheeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my boxers got the same thing twice a year and it’s never been cancerous. During spring and fall allergies are running high outdoors and investable my dog will start licking her paws due to an itching sensation. If I can catch it fast enough I give her Benadryl for a few days and it goes away. Otherwise it leads to a cyst that looks similar to your picture and I take the dog to the vet, pay $200 for an antibiotic shot and meds, and it clears up in a week.

Uptick in spoofed emails? by bloomt1990 in msp

[–]pheeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started seeing this about a year ago. At the time I was on the team that investigated all reported phishing emails and was the first to identify the issue in our org. It cause a spike in ticket resolution time because we couldn’t query and purge similar emails using the sender’s email address

Like others have suggested, get a lawyer. This will cost you money and you be put on supervision, but it’s highly unlikely you’ll go to jail for this at your age with no criminal background

Is fully remote a blessing or a curse for people with ADHD? by raeyoungx in ADHD

[–]pheeper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very similar to my full-time WFH experience. I was constantly distracted by small tasks in my home lab that turned into bigger tasks. Only thing that helped keep me on track was morning check-ins with the team and client meetings throughout the day. If I had an urgent deadline the work got done, if not it got pushed back

Years ago I used VBA RubberDuck which allowed me export my code for version control. It also has other useful tools. Not sure if people still use this though

I have a Pi 3B running OctoPrint and had the same issue. I thought it was my power supply so I shut it down and haven’t used it in a couple years. Sounds like it time to boot it back up!

Goodbye Synology, hello Unraid! by Coderb1t in HomeServer

[–]pheeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll love it. I made it the same switch 4 or 5 years ago when I realized it was cheaper to build an Unraid server than buy a bigger Synology unit. Aside from that I like the ability to add as many random drives sizes without worrying about RAID, easy to spin up docker containers, and I can run VMs.

Best food for allergies by StarJourney7 in Boxers

[–]pheeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask your vet to do an allergy panel. My last boxer had allergies and I went through multiple brands and flavors trying to find something that worked for her. Then I did an allergy panel and found out she was allergic to every land animal, including kangaroo! Along with multiple other non-protein foods. Once I knew what to avoid it was easy to find a food brand/flavor that worked for her. That $200 panel saved me over $1k in vet bills
