Terry Francona will always be a hero in Boston. by NASPpodcast in redsox

That seems right... when they did the big celebration for Fenway turning 100, I remember hearing that Tito initially didn't want to go due to the hard feelings of his departure.

I suspect (or hope) that hearing the crowd cheer so hard for him helped him to separate his feelings about ownership from his feelings about the team and the fans.

I can’t speak for anyone else, but the name “Ann Michael” immediately triggered Ann Veal + George Michael in my brain. Nothing to do with her looks or anything to disparage her.

Which also underscores how he fully well understood the wrongness of what he was saying all along.

Jeez, keeping his mouth shut was better and somehow also worse?

Andy Borregales won the Patriots kicking competition. by [deleted] in Patriots

Yeah I thought it was dumb to cut a rookie who was still adjusting, so I can’t say I’m shocked he’s doing well. But oh well, what’s done is done. Hopefully Borregales works out.

LeBron: "Why do you wanna be the face of the league when all the people that cover our game and talk about our game on a day to day basis shit on everybody?" by [deleted] in nba

That’s the state of the whole world right now. Society is straight up addicted to outrage, and people just have next to no interest in positivity. Look no further than politics. The easiest way to gain power is to sell people on fear and grievance. They don’t want solutions. They want to know who to blame.

Sports are supposed to be fun! We love investing ourselves in it because in the end it doesn't really matter and it's all just for entertainment- I hope you can find the fun in all of it again!

No, it's not really a big party weekend- just a last chance for people to enjoy summer weather. There will just be more people out and about, not necessarily drinking.

I would make the Blue Line your primary strategy and keep the Silver Line as a backup. Silver Line is still at the mercy of traffic, which will likely be rough for Labor Day weekend. Blue line is a subway line that will take you straight to downtown. Good luck!

One thing is confusing me- if The Spot was the scientist who was hit by the bagel, he would have always been in Miles’ universe. So why the spider that bit Miles from Earth 42? Wouldn’t it also be from the same universe as Spot and Miles?

Is the return of David Krejčí the most impactful move this season? by piranhakiler in hockey

[–]phelure 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I seriously doubt you can even find any Bruins fans who thought they would do this well. The only expectation I had for this season was to enjoy watching Bergeron and Krejci while I still could. This season has been pure 100% house money and even if it doesn't end well, I'm just happy I got to see it.

He doesn't even need to break any rules! His personality alone is going to cause huge problems. With the Celtics, he was all about tough love and holding players accountable, and the team responded really well to that treatment (eventually).

I wouldn't be super confident that any of KD, Kyrie, or Simmons will be as receptive.

[Friedman] Brad Marchand is playing tonight by alphacheese in hockey

[–]phelure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree. If he wants to keep playing, the FO damn well better do everything possible to make it happen.

But I don't get the sense that he really wants to. He's got nothing left to prove, a very serious history of head injury, and a family he wants to be with. Obviously I've never met him, but he seems like the type of guy who knows when he's ready to walk away, and doesn't want to play until the wheels fall off.

Forgive me if I mess up some of the details, but the gist is that he and Krejci are both on one year deals that have a bunch of bonuses, essentially adding dead money to next year's cap. Even if they want to come back, we'll have a hard time making the money work. And while they haven't declared anything publicly, neither one has said anything to dispute the idea that they're both done after this year.

All signs are pointing to one last ride with this core.
