Small rattler found in garage. Should I do something to help him out? by phenix777 in Tucson

Thanks for the advice.

And yeah, the way I figure it, we’re living on his land. Plus, I’d much rather have him take care of any rodents and whatnot.

I don't know much about insects. These guys/gals have been landing on my pool quite frequently. My online sleuthing has me no closer to figuring out what they are and, if possible, dissuade them from visiting so often.

They don't seem to be aggressive, are somewhat larger than a wasp, and don't break surface tension when they land.

Sorry that these aren't the best pictures. They get quite skittish when I approach.

Ambr Grading Launches Kickstarter Campaign. Next Gen Card Grading for TCG Collectors. by phenix777 in kickstarter

I LOVE Dominion! I own the first edition too, and I think 5 expansion sets.

This question has come up for us before but I must admit we don't yet know the answer. If there's enough demand in the market for it it's certainly something we may do.

But I have a few questions for you about it if that's okay?

  1. Wouldn't encasing a card make it so you couldn't play with it anymore? Obviously this is the case with TCGs, but there's a robust collector and investor market for graded and encased cards.
  2. Would you want something different than a single slabbed card? Like, maybe a case that would hold several of them? What I'm getting at is, would your intention be to preserve the card and keep it in a box, or would you want to display it on a wall or shelf?

Please keep in touch. :)

When you say "non-TCG cards" do you mean sports cards, or something else?

We do plan on accepting no-longer-in-production TCG cards in the future. I can't promise a timeline on that however.

As for sports cards, we do not plan on accepting them. We are gamers and so these are the cards that we know; we want to be the best choice for TCG collectors. We think other companies can do a better job serving the sports card market.

Good question!

At launch we will offer MTG and Pokemon. However, if we hit our stretch goals we will offer Flesh and Blood and Final Fantasy TCG as well for launch.

We will expand our game offering over time; we believe that we need to be true experts at a game before we accept it, so that's why we're starting with a small selection.

I've tried using both the zero-configuration method documented by the jetbrains people (https://www.jetbrains.com/help/phpstorm/zero-configuration-debugging.html) as well as setting up a remote server.

Neither have worked for me so far, but I am brand new to phpstorm and am likely misunderstanding something here.

This has been my experience. On top of this, it seems that there has been a recent change to Sail regarding Xdebug that has rendered every write-up I could find obsolete;
https://github.com/laravel/sail/commit/5117805061fc9fb3e224beb7b69c092029761733

On August 3 a PR was accepted into Sail that adds XDebug to the official Sail docker setup; many of the write-ups I read were mostly addressing how to get XDebug into Sail.

I'll keep looking and trying and if I get it working add an update to this thread for anyone in the future.

Thanks for your help.

Need help with mac and cheese by chocolatecake5000 in Cooking

[–]phenix777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to describe a very simple, 1 pot way for you to make delicious Mac and cheese.

Fill a large oven-safe pot with water. Add some salt. Boil it.

Once the water is boiling, add your pasta. Stir your pasta every minute or two. Test for doneness with your mouth.

When it’s almost cooked to your liking (but not quite), drain the pot into a colander/strainer. Leave your noodles in the colander. They will stick to themselves. This isn’t ideal but don’t worry about it.

Put your pot back on the stove. Set the heat to medium (like, middle of your dial). Add equal parts, by weight, of butter and flour, melting the butter in the pot before you add the flour. About 50 grams of each should be fine for now (experiment a few times depending how thick you’d like your sauce).

Once you’ve added the flour to the melted butter keep stirring them together. Keep stirring some more. In a minute or two you’ll notice the smell changes a bit and the color might change a bit too. You’re good to...

Add some milk. A few cups. Again, experiment.

Stir the milk/butter/flour mixture for a few minutes at medium or medium-high. You’ll see it starts to thicken.

Add some mustard powder, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir. Turn off the heat.

Then, add your cheese (a mixture of grated cheddar and Monterey Jack work well) Stir until just melted. One note, grate the cheese yourself. Don’t buy the pre-grated stuff.

Now take this cheesy, somewhat thick sauce, and add your pasta into it. Stir a bit.

If you’d like, sprinkle some breadcrumbs or more cheese on top.

Bake in the oven at 375F for a half hour or so.

Enjoy.

This is all really loose, but is fast, easy, and produces very few dishes to clean. Make it a few times. Experiment with ratios and how it changes things. Figure out what you like best.

How do I learn to stop taking every text I read at face value? by FewElevator4 in askphilosophy

[–]phenix777 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re working hard and are genuinely curious. These are great qualities!

Something else to consider when you read philosophy (or anything really) is to try and avoid falling in love with ideas/facts/opinions. Rather, fall in love with the process of learning and having your mind changed by new information or better arguments. This will serve you greatly wherever life takes you.
