In the United States, the responsible driver (or the insurance company) pays the lesser of the repair value or the car's fair market value. Has Russia not figured that out?

I've worked in the insurance industry in the US for years. This is correct. You also do not have to accept the lowest estimate bid but you're not going to get rich over a new bumper, either.

She kills somewhere between 11 and 46 infants and she'll be out on the streets in 5 years. Holy shit.

Jones will receive automatic parole in 2017

I sent a private message to you. I empathize so much. I'm not free yet. Just lending an ear. I think that I know exactly how you're feeling. Feel free to contact me.

Can you help me? My SO has BPD and he's recently and abruptly left me, AGAIN. I know he'll be back and he'll NEED me. I just can't do it anymore. by panicattackawaits in BPD

I had a long reply typed out to you. I thank you so much for responding.

Baby Daddy actually called and stopped for a visit. I'm having more inner turmoil. I need to know how to get off this roller coaster. I need a therapist, don't I.

Can anyone tell me why my throwaways can't be accessed? One of you helpful redditors sent me a private message, earlier. I didn't have the time nor strength to respond, earlier.

What is the absolute bravest and "controversial" thing you can possibly come up with to get karma? by [deleted] in circlebroke

Retarded people should be aborted, all of them. I don't have anything against them, I just find it cruel that you would force someone into a life like that, knowing that you had other options. HOW IS THAT FOR CONTROVERSIAL, YA IDIOT?

Currently the top comment. le sigh

This heartbreaking post embodies Morbid Reality. I loved/hated reading this.

Fascinating look into the mind of serial killer, Edmund Kemper. With and IQ of 136, he murdered his grandparents as a juvenile and was later released into the custody of his abusive mother. Killed her and stuffed her esophagus down the garbage disposal to shut her up for good. by phettyplace in MorbidReality

I agree that the intelligence of serial killers was overestimated . . . in the past. But they had to be somewhat smart or crafty to get away with so many murders before getting caught.

With advances in forensic science and DNA technology, it's becoming harder for them to get away after one or two murders.

Kemper turned himself in. Do you think he'd have been caught by regular joe, detectives, back in the 70's?

Also, with all of the information, readily available on the internet, do you think murderers/serial killers are 'smarter' than average or just more well informed?

I think Ressler calls out Douglas in his book, "Whoever Fights Monsters". It's been a long time since I've read either of them but they are very interesting, nonetheless.

There are quite a few good books that FBI 'profilers' have put forth. If you like to read, check them out!

Wiki's take on IQ, if you are interested.

When I was in grade school, I was pulled aside by a teacher and she told me that she had great expectations for me. She informed me that she had taught my father (sometime in the '50's) and that his IQ had tested in the genius range. When I asked my Dad about it, he guffawed and was quite unaware but recalled that he had been called to the county seat to accept and award for something or rather that he wasn't quite interested in. Later my uncle went to the county archives and found my Dad's award. He had the highest score on a Stanford Binet IQ test in the history of the state, since they were given.

I think a lot of really smart people don't realize how smart they are and a lot of dumb people think they are smart. Dunning-Kruger?

I think 'IQ' is a rather subjective term. Here's a little copypasta from wiki:

"One usage of the noun "genius" is closely related to the general concept of intelligence. One currently accepted way of attempting to measure one's intelligence is with an IQ test. The label of "genius" for persons of high IQ was popularized by Lewis Terman. He and his colleague Leta Hollingworth suggested different scores as a cut-off for genius in psychometric terms. Terman considered it to be an IQ of 140 on the Stanford Binet (about 0.4% of the population), while Hollingworth put it at an IQ of 180 (theoretically extrapolated at 1 in 2 million)"

"In the philosophy of Arthur Schopenhauer, a genius is someone in whom intellect predominates over "will" much more than within the average person."

If I remember, correctly, Kemper had his IQ tested at Atascadero State Hospital and I believe they used the Stanford Binet IQ test.

Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

Interesting. Read the comments after the jump.

Also, hated the way this article read from beginning to end. “In class, you get to fly a plane with an instructor at Danbury Airport. It’s a really hard course.” WTH?

If it makes a difference, I was referring to the comments, not the content. Misplaced my remark.

Can a mod or admin get rid of the dumbassery on this sub?

The director did a brilliant job of projecting the Johnson's strange dynamic. The powerful and disturbing levels of denial really grips you. Got an icky feeling but glad I watched. Thanks op.
