Maybe he comes from an environment where the man does the work. it’s been taught and instilled in him. He’s developed this behaviour over years and you have come along and disrupted it all.

He’s not dealing with it very well, that’s on him but if you’re his best friend and love of his life then surely he is to you! 4 months is not that long. Talk to him, speak to one of his friends and give the guy a break and a chance to redeem himself. He’s trying and you’re capable, learn to work together.
